Pics of you - Part V

For me, I'm no good with math - that 25 x 4, or whatever that was -wouldn't know the answer easily.

Does it help to think of 25 as a quarter, like the 25 cent coin? So 4 gives you a dollar:100?

Minus the bruised ego. I'm very good at braking. I should actually show Derek how good I am at it.

What's if there is pithole under the water?

That bike and my bike have one thing in common: same braking system. Note the front wheel. My bike has a similar system.

Not exactly. Left handle is clutch and right foot is brake for rear.

Unlike most cyclists, I take care to memorize the roads, and know which are good to use, and which are not. For example, portions of Clark are not safe to use due to the narrowness of the street in some areas, but the best road to use is Western Ave. Anything between Ridge and Lawrence has some hazards, but north of Ridge isn't too bad, but still risky, but after Lawrence is better. And there is one section close to my home that's extremely dangerous for a cyclist-- the part where Clark and Ashland merge, because if I want to be on Clark, I have to be on high alert, and make sure I move at the exact right time, which is no easy task. As for potholes, if there are any, well, my tires are capable of handling them pretty well. I just need to make sure I don't accidentally hurt my nuts.

Don't matter about memory the road or not. Snow plow or flood can destroy the road.

Yep, I know. Speaking of which, I believe CDOT is gonna be starting road construction again soon, so maybe things will be better. I'll have to wait and see which roads have been targeted for construction this year.

No, he's right. $0.75 or 75 cents, but not .75 cents. Technically, .75 cent would be less than a a penny (1 cent) since .75<1.

That's not the part I was questioning ;) it was the "funniest fail" part that made me ask if he was joking.

:wave:tuatara, thanks for your help in your post about the quarter and the dollar. I first learned/understood more about quarter = 25 when I was in college....that quarter and 25 cents was the same. I went for years with an undiagnosed learning disability. Things like "feet" and "inches" mean nothing to me, had a horrible time learning subtraction and do not know how to use a ruler. I see how the 4 quarters gives you the dollar...not sure about putting that together with the original math I was referring to <and which I'd have to find or look back on> in a different post.

Here are 2 of me in mid 1980s. One picture was taken of me last month. Can you guess which picture of me is from last month?

Hey dogmom,

You've walked into one of my compulsions, explaining math stuff. :0

I think the original multiplication was just 25x4=100 (or 4x25 - maybe better to visualize in that order.)

I was just saying that if you know that a quarter is 25 cents, then when you see 4x25 you could imagine having 4 quarters.

Then if you know that 4 quarters is the same as a dollar, you've got your hundred (since a dollar is worth 100 cents).

I would really like to get a better understanding of what it's like inside a person's head when they're dealing with learning disabilities like what you describe. I've looked for books on the subject, but haven't found anything too illuminating. I've taught math for years, and especially if I'm sitting down 1 on 1 with a student, I try to get a sense of where they're at and what we can do from there, but it's all been little glimpses of individuals' process, not a solid big picture.
