Parents want hearing school to get state funding

Ok. I didn't realize they were classed as substitute teachers.

I think here, we call them interim teachers; meaning thay aren't yet until they go thru this last stage to being officially credentialed. And they are supervised by a credentialed teacher in whose room they are being interims.

Some parents are involved, some never hae been. It depends on the age of the student and the family situation.

my question was for you in your field area of talking to those parents. so you are saying that you have met parents who are involved in your students in your classroom. correct? so are those parents dont minding you as a "student teacher" discussing about children? I am just curious becuase i have never thought of it before. I am aware about my children's teachers and they are teachers that I rather discuss with, rather than either subs, aide teacher or student teachers.

I have met a few student teachers before though, not in my children's schools.

I have lots of substitute teachers stories LOL

but I'm sure FJ have some knowledge on the subject, but I don't think all IEP are alike though.

I think everyone has a story or two about a sub that they terrorized!:giggle: I don't think anyone is saying that FJ has no knowledge. Just that with her experience it is limited and she is making assumptions about IEPs that simply are not accurrate.

But there are alternate programs for people who have a degree to be teachers in the classroom while picking up the teaching credential.

At least in Iowa. :hmm:
In South Carolina we have the PACE (Program of Alternative Certification for Educators) as another option.

Bingo. Even credentialed teachers who are new to the classroom remain under supervision their first few years. And they are not located in a classroom with another teacher. They have their own classroom. Supervision activities take place during free periods or after school.

I did have a student teacher at our son's parent/teacher conference before. I have very little knowledge of IEP, other than our son's speech therapy funded by the district to come to his private school but that's just about all (they ought to work with kids in private school because these kids could easily transfer to their school and they would have a heavy load of work to do)

Am I reading this correctly? FJ, are u claiming to be a licensed teacher and now you are changing your story?

If you are working in the classroom while still getting your degree and licensure, you are called a "student teacher", but you are only allowed to do student teaching in the last year of your degree. In fact, it is a requirement of the teaching degree and also of licensure that a student do a certain number of hours of student teaching under the supervision of a degreed, licensed, and experienced teacher before they will even let you take the Praxis to become licensed.
In South Carolina, the PACE teachers must have at least a bachelor's degree and pass the Praxis II before they can apply for the program.

I guess each state has different requirements.

That's good to know. The interims just have to have a bachelor degree in the field related to subject matter they are teaching. For instance, a degree in Poli Sci would enable them to teach high school level government or social studies. They have to take the Praxis within a time frame specified, or they can't continue.

Where did she post that she was licensed?

Post #411...she said she is a teacher in special ed. For one to be a teacher in special ed, he/she must be licensed and highly qualified by law. Otherwise, they arent teachers.

Bingo. Special ed requires even more than a regular classroom teacher.

Really? No teacher can call themselves teachers unless they are licensed? Hmmm. Is this just a teacher thing or all professions that require a license? Like hairdressers, etc.

The NCLB law requires all teachers to posses a highly qualified certification in their area or they are in violiation of the law. Did you read about those 30 something teachers at Rhode Island School for the Deaf getting the boot because they weren't certified under the NCLB?

Yeah, I guess I can't call myself a graphic designer. I don't have a license in it. Heaven forbid I get told I'm misrepresenting myself as a graphic designer.

It is misrepresentation to call yourself a licensed, credentialed professional when you are not. And, the licensing body can put you on a ban list and insure that you are never eligible for licensure due to this unethical behavior. You can't call yourself a doctor without proper education and licensure, either. Or a nurse. Or a psychologist. Or anyone else that is required by law to be licensed.

The point is that she didn't state she had a license. No need for everyone to put words in her mouth.

Last I checked, graphic designers are not required by law to have a license. There is a reason that certain professions require it.
