The problem is that a person cannot live in our society without being complicit. If I buy milk, even the organic variety, I am supporting factory farming. I live in an urban area and I can't keep a cow for milk. I can't be vegan (although I've seriously considered it). When I buy running shoes, which I need, I'm supporting low wage factories overseas. I can't make my own running shoes. I'm trapped. It's easy to feel depressed about that. All we can do is speak out and be politically active in supporting causes important to us.
I've considered going vegetarian and even vegan for health reasons. I find that it's hard for me to go without meat for more than one day. Anywhere from 1/3 to 2/3 of my meals are vegetarian though.
