dreama, I am not even sure why you even brought up the topic of livestocks and animal testing in response to concerns about ecology. I know a lot of professors who are studying ecology and are protesting government and businesses that are promoting these kind of things, yet you are calling them hypocrites for not being a vegan? It's apples and oranges here.

Well if you really care about the environment you won't eat factory farmed meat.

I don't mean to pick on you here. The animal research thing touches a nerve with me today. Sorry.

It does with me too because my mom died of cancer. So I was very angry to find that the reasearch doesn't even want to cure cancer. They want to make money and employ sick people who torture aninals while they are at it.

You have primates tortured for ezimers who are highly intelligent. Highly social creatures who don't diserve to be treated like that.

At the same time these cruel tests are holding proper research back.

Major depressed now.

That'll make two of us then.

Did you also notice the article about Sarah palin banning factory fish farm for ecological reasons? Because of the harm and pollution to native fish?

Actually, that's true. Land erosion is quite a big problem where the farming factories are. In fact, they pollute the water too as well. It's not natural to keep thousands and thousands of animals in a contained building or pen where they don't have the space to move around.

That's right, it isn't.

Don't compare with kill the wolves from helicopter with factory farmed meats, they are totally different since wolves are wild animal since cows, pigs, chicken, goats are domesticated animals, human is OMNIVORE.

None of your businesses about our diet with meats, you need care about yourself, not us.

There's two sides to that problem:

1) Factory farming Atlantic salmon means that the native fish populations (Pacific salmon) won't be overfished, thus will stay around longer...

2) Factory farming also introduce genetic pollution, escapees compete with the native fish and some of the steroids are questionable...

Which is the lesser of the two evils? Relieving pressure off the native population, or rolling the dice for a major screw-up?

I say ban Atlantic salmon from the west coast. If they can farm Atlantic salmon, then they can figure out how to farm Pacific salmon. If there is such a big market for it, B.C. residents don't really need it-- most of world's salmon production come from Sweden, Denmark and Iceland anyway... so why do we need to bring the Atlantic salmon to this side of the world?

So that is one thing I will credit Palin for.

Come on, you are hardcore vegan and Sarah Palin is hunter, not mention about killing wolves from helicopter so you are not supposed to like her, she isn't right person for you.

You need research more, seriously.

Lots of personal anecdotes, but forum and blog comments don't necessarily means anything. That, and kayakers and backpackers seem to really like propaganda websites. I am depressed now though in regard what I did find. :(

Found out about the sea otter hunt (approved by Campbell... bloody), and the big questioning about the Pebble Mine at Bristol Bay (which will lead to the destruction of an important sockeye salmon spawn site). To give dreama context... Pacific Northwesterners (Oregon, Washington, B.C. and Alaska) tend to be protective of their environment since it's a large part of our tourism appeal. Plus, many of us hike or kayak, so we tend to frown on hunting and human developments since we want to preserve what is left of the fragile coast, and its wildlife so that future generations can enjoy their beauty.

Major depressed now.
Oh, man, I didn't want you to get depressed! Try to think about the positive things that are being done.

Maybe Palin is #1 because she is new to the political scene while Kennedy is not? :dunno:

The problem is that a person cannot live in our society without being complicit. If I buy milk, even the organic variety, I am supporting factory farming. I live in an urban area and I can't keep a cow for milk. I can't be vegan (although I've seriously considered it). When I buy running shoes, which I need, I'm supporting low wage factories overseas. I can't make my own running shoes. I'm trapped. It's easy to feel depressed about that. All we can do is speak out and be politically active in supporting causes important to us.

cheer up, buddy. if it's any consolation - what dies comes a new life.

I still think it's because of her sex appeal or whatever. :dunno: I can see something about her physical & attitude style appeals to "All American Family" type... sadly enough - they're overlooking her stance on certain issues.

BTW, Dreama, I've posted a lot of facts on this forum that kokonut refuses to even acknowledge. I'm happy to post facts any time that I can. I can't force someone to acknowledge or refute them.

True..good point. Another could be is that she is a controversial figure. Their memoirs tend to sell fast.

Damned if u do, damned if u dont!!!!!

She's a female.... in a feminist world. Everyone is going to want to buy her book. No harm in that, but people should recognize who are buying the books.

I find it odd to note that Teddy's book is 7th. I mean, here is this old guy, has been out of the public eye for some time as he began to die from cancer. To compare his book as ONLY 7th while touting Palin at #1 is laughable. She is the flavor of the moment; the media circus follows her every move. Ted is dead. No crowds following his gravesite. If Britney Spears writes a book, Palin becomes old news. Why does this even need to be discussed? Oh yeah, the constant drumbeat of the "nut" and his shilling for deficit attacks.

Many women who don't support Palin's political positions are angry about the sexist way in which Palin was treated. Both Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin had sexist media coverage. It didn't help that Palin was ill prepared to speak on the issues but Palin still got a raw deal just like any other female candidate. Despite that, I'm still not reading the book.

It is beginning to seem to be all about who is better than who. Getting old.
