'Open Carry' Law Contoversy: Gun Owner Cited

Can't read English? It has a big graphic of a gun with the circle and slash over it.

Stupid? Well . . . I imagine that person wouldn't pass the CCW course and test anyway. :D

:giggle:

I've seen that sign and it's usually like this. Impossible to mistaken it. That's why I support South Carolina's law to criminalize those who willfully ignored it.

:dunno: Neither TCS nor I have heard of any.

so you and TCS live in gun-friendly state and have never heard of such incident. TXGolfer lived in Texas - a notorious "trigger-happy" state and has never heard of such incident. I live in highly-restrictive gun state and I have never heard of any such incident ANYWHERE in America.

:hmm:

now I'm wondering where are Jillio's so-called claims and stats coming from.

thank you for proving my point that most of "crime of passion" occurred at home, not in public area. if you know of any other recent "crime of passion" where it involves shooting in public area... please let me know and how many such incidents have occurred for the past few years.

Jean Harris is just one example of crime of passion and I have no doubt that some crimes of passions have occurred in public spaces like offices. I believe I can cite cases of crimes of passion in public space from the short stories and novels by Ann Rule but I will need to go upstairs and go thru her books and cite the cases. Her most famous book is A Stranger Beside Me.

Your sign examples would not be legally binding in SC.

(B) All signs must be posted at each entrance into a building where a concealable weapon permit holder is prohibited from carrying a concealable weapon and must be:

(1) clearly visible from outside the building;

(2) eight inches wide by twelve inches tall in size;

(3) contain the words “NO CONCEALABLE WEAPONS ALLOWED” in black one inch tall uppercase type at the bottom of the sign and centered between the lateral edges of the sign;

(4) contain a black silhouette of a handgun inside a circle seven inches in diameter with a diagonal line that runs from the lower left to the upper right at a forty five degree angle from the horizontal;

(5) a diameter of a circle; and

(6) placed not less than forty inches and not more than sixty inches from the bottom of the building’s entrance door.

(C) If the premises where concealable weapons are prohibited does not have doors, then the signs contained in subsection (A) must be:

(1) thirty six inches wide by forty eight inches tall in size;

(2) contain the words “NO CONCEALABLE WEAPONS ALLOWED” in black three inch tall uppercase type at the bottom of the sign and centered between the lateral edges of the sign;

(3) contain a black silhouette of a handgun inside a circle thirty four inches in diameter with a diagonal line that is two inches wide and runs from the lower left to the upper right at a forty five degree angle from the horizontal and must be a diameter of a circle whose circumference is two inches wide;

(4) placed not less than forty inches and not more than ninety six inches above the ground;

(5) posted in sufficient quantities to be clearly visible from any point of entry onto the premises.

I haven't posted any stats. Stop trying to add to my posts, Jiro. It's a tactic beneath you.

Just because 3 people on AD haven't heard of it, it never happens? Gee, let me inform the news.

no. you claimed to have found it and then you told me to go "fetch" it.

Check the prisons. They are full of people who were law abiding all their lives, and then committed a crime of passion.

Check the news archives. People go nuts about college football, and there are incidents in the news every season.

Like I said...check the prisons. People are shot during crimes of passion in public areas all the time, Jiro.

We are not able to find anything that backs your claim.

yes please do and see if the news can come up with anything that backs your claim.

All of the little old ladies here are packing heat with a concealed permit. This really frightens me because they are unskilled and unpredictable. There have been several incidents of elderly people getting in the car, forgetting where they are going, and ending up in another state. Seriously, if you can't remember where you're going, you don't need to be driving. So, everyone watch out for lost old ladies who are armed and dangerous.

Then you aren't looking hard enough, Jiro. That is not my problem.

Your state doesn't require taking the course and passing the test in order to get a permit?

There have been several incidents of elderly people getting in the car, forgetting where they are going, and ending up in another state.
Those are the same ones with concealed weapons? :eek3:

How often do these CCW people get tested? Mental decline that would lead to unpredicability in behavior can happen very quickly at times.

Using publicly available media reports, the Violence Policy Center claims that from May 2007 through the end of 2009, concealed carry permit holders in the U.S. have killed at least 117 individuals, including 9 law enforcement officers (excluding cases where individuals were acquitted, but including pending cases).

it would be better if you post a link to news story rather than coming up with silly fictitious scenario that either never happened or rarely happened.

I can easily come up at least dozens of stories that little old ladies successfully defended themselves against assailants with extensive criminal histories but I believe I don't need to post links of my claims because we both know this happened many times. So... how about a link to your story?

Depends on the state; the laws of each one are different.

In SC, "these" people have to renew their permits every four years. However, renewal doesn't require retesting. It does include an update of the background check.

source please?

Reba, the course is easy. I doubt they are going to target practice. At least the people I know of. I just assume that everyone here is armed and dangerous. Safer that way

that's fine.

just remember that with CCW - they bear heavy responsibility and repercussions. and beside - I'm much more concerned about person's competent driving skill than a person packing a heat.

Who were the 117 individuals who were shot? Kids coming home after curfew, or gang members circling a car, or home invasions, or armed robbers or....?

I know right? way too many questions. need detail, not summary. Not a good start on her part.

Jiro, I'm referring to people that I know personally. It's common knowledge that my state does nothing to protect the public from elderly people who may be dangerous. If an old person can shuffle to the car and get behind the wheel, he can drive. We recently had 3 alerts for missing elderly drivers. It's really scary. Some one could take advantage of these people and their loved ones are frantic. If you're going to drive home 10 miles a way, how long do you drive before you think you should stop? One couple were found 2 states away. Obviously, something is wrong. The state should at least require older people to go in to renew their license. Same with weapons.
