okay ad'ers. ask me anything (but be nice! :))

i was given two separate injections of antipsychotics in my hip.
Ouch, that sounds really painful.
the first time i was restrained by hospital staff (because i was manic, irritable and extremely combative) before being given the injection and the second time a nurse came to my bed, pulled down the covers and gave me the shot without warning. needless to say, i was *not* happy.
That sounds really scary and unpleasant. <sad>

Hear Again, if you don't mind my asking, are you NLP, light perception, or...?

Eek! Even when my migraines last a week I'm ready to end it all! How did you put up with that? I'm glad the shot got rid of the migraine.

my migraines also last a week when i'm unmedicated. ugh! i don't think i could put up with a migraine for a month! then again, before i was put on imitrex, it wasn't uncommon for me to have 3 migraines per week, so i guess i was in the same boat in some ways. now that i'm on imitrex, my migraine pain goes away in 15 minutes. i'm also on topamax (a migraine preventative), but since i'm still on a low dose of 25mg and have only taken this med for 3 weeks, i don't know how effective it is in improving my migraines. so far, i haven't noticed a difference, but according to my doctor, chances are good that she will need to raise my dosage since most people taking topamax as a migraine preventative need a moderate or high dose in order for it to be effective.

I'm glad you are back :) Are you feeling better with your eyes ? If not, have you called your ophtalmologist ?

yes, the injections in my hip *were* painful. i don't know why they couldn't have given me oral meds instead, but i'm assuming it's because i was actively hallucinating, confused, manic, paranoid and extremely irritable and wouldn't have taken oral meds because of it. i also know that injectable meds are fast-acting and more potent than oral meds. i'm glad they didn't give me an injection you-know-where with haldol since that's even more painful. one thing i did *not* like about the first hospital i attended was that they pumped me up with so many drugs making me catatonic for 17 hours straight. according to one of the nurses (who told me this upon my discharge), i sat on the floor in front of the dining room for 17 hours straight. tigger was beside me at the time, but i didn't move or speak, so one of the nurses had to feed and relieve her. the following morning after my catatonia broke, a social worker asked me if she could take tigger outside to relieve her. i was extremely paranoid at the time, so it took alot of convincing to hand tigger over. that day tigger was taken home by my sister because one of the nurses said some of the patients were afraid of dogs. having said that, i'm happy to report that at the last hospital i recently attended, the nursing staff asked me why i didn't bring tigger with me and said the next time i'm inpatient they would be more than happy to take care of her.

as for the experience of being restrained, yes, it was very unpleasant. i know i was severely manic and combative at the time, but they didn't need to have 4 people holding my arms and legs so i couldn't move. i knew i was being pulled inside a room by several people, but did not know why. after they injected me, i started to panic because i thought they were going to lock me inside that room all by myself.

my eyes are still hurting the same as yesterday, but i was able to call my opthalmologist and she can see me today at 1:00 pm.

thanks! i hope so, too. i'll let everyone know what happens after my appointment.

i wish the same for you. do you plan to call your ENT today?
I called my ENT, he told me hat it's no big deal after a cold. However, if it doesn't heal in a week, I have to call him back :ty:

it was. i'll never return to that d*mn hospital again. <very mad> sorry for sounding so angry, but they had *no* right to treat me that way. i never realized how compassionate a hospital could be until i attended the one i was at recently. i know when someone is severely manic, psychotic and/or paranoid hospital staff must take action, but they knew i was totally blind and didn't have the right to restrain me or refuse to warn me that they were giving me an injection. thank goodness i attended this other hospital so i know better. if i ever need to go inpatient again, that's where i'm going.

you're welcome! i'm so glad you don't need to be immediately concerned about the pain. that's good news!

Aw man I'm sorry Hear Again. <sad> I'm glad you found a hospital that knows how to treat you right and I'm glad that's where you'll be going from now on.

Good luck with your eye doctor appointment.
