okay ad'ers. ask me anything (but be nice! :))

On a good note, things involving the cornea tend to be extremely painful even for relatively minor things. Hopefully it is just the cornea being overly sensitive.

Ok, thanks a lot for your answer.
I have a really bad cold !! I spent Christmas with a throat infection, so now f it's an ear infection..... :/

oh, i hope not! several years ago i had strep throat, a sinus infection *and* an ear infection. needless to say, i was *not* a happy camper! i hope you feel better soon!

i think i'm going to go to the ER later tonight. i'm starting to worry since the pain is sharp and as i mentioned, feels like someone is jabbing a sharp object into my eyes.
Is there anything like SOS Médecins (SOS doctor) here in the US ? It would be better than going to the ER !!

i hope that's the case. i'm going to ask the ER doctor if the change in temperature might have something to do with it. temperatures have been extremely cold (in the single digits), but now they are in the mid 30s.

I hope you feel better, Giulia! I would definitely go to your ENT if I were you.

Thanks Hear Again !!
And please, go to the ER right now for your eyes !!

That could definitely explain your eyes watering. How about what you've eaten? Have you eaten anything lately, maybe even had some ice cream too fast?

Thanks Nika :) Unfortunately, my sore throat isn't better and my ear is painful, like if it were a sharp thing into my ear !! So omorrow, I take right away an appointment with my ENT doc !!

i'm unfamiliar with the term "sos doctor." here in the u.s. if a person needs to see a doctor immediately, they go to the ER.

unfortunately, as far as i know, opthalmologists don't see their patients on an emergency basis unless there is a threat of immediate vision loss.

the fact that you have a sharp pain in your ear doesn't sound good (no pun intended). if i were you, i'd go to the ER as soon as possible. i don't mean to alarm you, but the last thing you want is for the pain to become too severe and unmanageable.

Even then oftentimes you get a resident doing their ophthalmology round. At least that's been my experience.

In France, SOS Médecins (SOS doctors) has been created for relieving ER of too many people for the little emergencies which can become serious.

nope. the only things i've had to eat today were cold breakfast cereal, a blt sandwich with fries for lunch, a protein drink and chicken soup for dinner.

I don't think we have anything like that here in the U.S. In general, France is a bit ahead of us in terms of providing health care. For example in France they provide nursing women with a free nurse that comes every day. We definitely don't have that in the U.S.

i never knew that. interesting. do sos doctors work in the ER alongside other ER doctors?

nika,

i always make sure to eat ice cream slowly. i've had one too many ice cream headaches to know better! <laughing>

I don't want to worry mom (she is with me). The problem is that is mom will not accept to go to the ER for a pain in the ear.

SOS Doctors can send someone to the ER if necessary, but generally speaking, you call them for flu, bronchitis.... The minor things that can become serious.

how far away from the ER are you? could you take a cab/taxi?

i can understand that you don't want to worry your mother. if that's the case, call your ENT in the morning. (sorry to sound like a "mother hen," but i've had many instances of ear pain, so i know what you are going through. :()

<laugh> Same. I didn't mean to diminish your eye pain... I just want to consider all the possibilities! Is it still the same now? Why don't you see if laying down vs. sitting up makes it feel better? Maybe it's a cluster headache?
