okay ad'ers. ask me anything (but be nice! :))

Ahh, cool! I think you describe your talent similar to bats. They use some sort of sonar type of thing to locate stuff without hitting into things, as you know bats are blind but they sure can fly.

You sure can type pretty fast in braille. :0

yes. i'm able to type 100 words per minute in braille, but i'm not typing out every word. i'm using short form words (i.e. abbreviations) which make typing considerably faster (for example, typing a single braille character for "the," "and," "you," "but," "can," "people," "knowledge," etc.)

Pffft, that's cheating! :giggle: Just kidding, that sounds like shorthand typing method, like they do in the court.

im sorry.

whats your favorite desert?

my favorite dessert used to be root beer ice cream but unfortunately they no longer make it anymore. now i have several favorite desserts which include chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, coconut cake, orange sherbet, tapioca pudding, banana pudding, chocolate marshmallow ice cream and chocolate ice cream.

you're right. it is similar to court reporting. grade II braille consists of over 175 different contractions and short form words.

for example, the following sentence would be typed in print to braille as follows:

"he will go to the store tomorrow." (print)

"he w (will) g (go) to the (two keystrokes for the word "to" and "the")
"st" sign "o-r-e" (4 keystrokes for the "st" sign and then the letters o-r-e) tmr (tomorrow)." (grade II braille)

when you compare the two sentences, the first sentence consists of 27 keystrokes while the second sentence only consists of 11.

Ahhh, very interesting! That looks a bit complicated, might have to memorize which to type so it won't end up as an error.

yeah. it won't make any sense to you since you're not familiar with the abbreviations and short form words used in braille. if you were though, it would make complete sense. :) since typeingtornado knows braille, i bet what i've written would make sense to her. then again, braille abbreviations and short form words can't be written as print characters since braille represents tactile formations of letters, numbers and words. it's kind of like trying to write asl as english. it just doesn't work.

you spelled "braille" correctly. :)

no, i don't have a special tv and there aren't special tv's for the blind.

however, some public tv stations do carry what is called dvs (or descriptive video service). dvs is a service that narrates what is happening on the screen, what characters are doing, what they are wearing and their facial expressions. this is all announced during pauses between dialogue in the program.

to learn more about dvs, click here

i love to watch tv (in fact, sometimes i watch too much of it!). some of my favorite shows are the ones i listed in an earlier post.

oh, that's cool. interesting, thanks for the information. :)

Actually you know what? I don't know for sure if IHOP does make it but I feel that it does because well... this is NJ... the land of diners! There are diners just about every town and they do make it but not all. Some tastes lousy... some are good. It is best to make your own to your specific taste! The last time I made my own was................. back in 3rd grade?? My speech teacher was throwing a small party and she taught me how. It was good and very simple! You just need a blender machine if you want. :cool2:
