okay ad'ers. ask me anything (but be nice! :))

Well, how was your break from AD?

when is the last time you had a migrane?

actually, i can't remember. the mood stabilizer i used to be on (depakote) was excellent for migraines (although i was taking it for my bipolar). it not only helped control my moods for awhile, but it also helped keep my migraines at bay. unfortunately, that med has pooped out on me, so i'm on a different mood stabilizer now (zyprexa) and it looks as though my migraines have returned because of it. i'm going to talk to my doctor on monday about being put on a migraine preventative. i used to be on verapamil a long time ago and that worked great for me. i no longer remember why i stopped taking it, but i'm going to see if i can start taking it again. it looks like i'm going to have to do something because (like anyone) i can't keep getting migraines all the time.

nope. my energy levels are way too high for them to be effective, but that's not unheard of for people who have bipolar and are manic.

whoa... makes me wonder how does hospital controls the uncontrollable maniacal patient

Well, how was your break from AD?

hey there, jake. i ended up going to bed so i could "sleep off" my mood and i'm feeling better now. i know i acted unreasonable and blew the whole "deafblinders" thing all out of proprotion. i tend to get this way when i'm manic because i rapid cycle between mania, depression, irritability and agitation. i obviously was feeling agitated earlier, so hopefully the pendulum will swing in the other direction and i'll cycle back into mania.

whoa... makes me wonder how does hospital controls the uncontrollable maniacal patient

they pump them up full of antipsychotics and mood stabilizers. sometimes so much so that it causes the patient to be catatonic (this happened to me the last time i was hospitalized for mania. i was catatonic for 17 hours straight according to what the nurses told me).

Can you describe 'mania' I wonder what it is...

sure. a manic episode (or mania) is when a person with bipolar experiences a high level of energy, extreme happiness, restlessness (an inability to sit still), lack of concentration, difficulty with decision making, depression, auditory hallucinations (when mania is severe), paranoia (when mania is severe), delusions (when mania is severe), irritability and agitation. i rapid cycle on an hourly basis (called ultradian or ultra-ultra rapid cycling) between all of these symptoms when i'm manic. if you click on the link in my signature that reads, "what is bipolar disorder?," you'll see a full list of symptoms that represent the signs of mania or a manic episode.

i wanted to add that for many people with bipolar, mania is a pleasant feeling where they think they can do anything. sometimes they may also have delusions of grandeur (i.e. they have extroadinary powers or abilities and are better than anyone else in the world). it is also a time when a person feels as if they are the most creative and productive, have the best ideas and can do 100 things at once. mania can be very pleasant in the early stages, but it isn't long before a person can "crash" (i.e. experience a sudden decrease in mood) into depression, irritability and anger.

Thanks for the information, it makes sense! :)

you're welcome. :)

i'm so glad that everyone here (as far as i know) accepts the fact that i'm bipolar. after all, it is what it is. when i act out sometimes like i did tonight, i always make sure to apologize and let others know i was wrong.

sounds like a "normal" college student on high dosage of ecstasy or Adderell and they will crash hard in the end like what you said at last sentence.

yes, that's true. the only difference beteen a college student on a high dosage of adderall or ecstasy is the fact that people with bipolar also experience mania in addition to crashing.

any other questions from the ad gallery?

yes me. what does it say for you if you read a post with picture? and will you post a pix of you and/or your significant other in Picture thread? :cool2:

when i "see" a post with a picture in it, my braille display reads "graphic" followed by the number of the graphic that appears on the screen.

for example, if there are 3 graphics/pictures on the screen and i'm currently reading the post that contains the 3rd graphic, it will say "graphic #3."

when i read a post via synthetic speech with my screen reader, it will simply announce "graphic."

as for the pic of my boyfriend and i, i'm working on it! :)
