Um no we do understand. Many of us had severe delays too. But you have said that she understands 90% on a hearing test. Meaning she understands spoken language on the level of a seven year old. Right? She still has a significent expressive language delay.don't know if you are being intentionally obtuse, or if you really don't understand. Why does it take a hearing child 7 years to get to the language of a 7 year old? Because they need exposure and time to learn language. But they hear well?!?!? So what! A child who is implanted may also hear well, but they need time to learn the language.
So she's more like a kid with apraxia or CP (who can BOTH hear well) that inhibits spoken expressive language. She does need to improve her spoken language, but she will advance. I really do think you should look into relocating to a state with a REALLY good Deaf School like Maryland or Kansas School for the Deaf or Oregon (which has a lot of hoh students) At a really good bi bi school, she would get spoken language instruction (beyond survival speech) BUT also be able to concentrate on content and actually learning stuff on par with her intellectucal abilty.
You have admitted you have severe anxiety. A BIG part of the reason why we are anti oral only is not only does it negatively impact the kids, it can and DOES negatively impact the parents with the added extreme stress and anxiety, and the hyperfocus on "therapizing" the kid and getting the kid on par with their spoken language. It's understandable to be anxiousAs for your comments about me...that's great, thanks for the input.
