Obama & the Monkey Cartoon.

Can you please fresh my memory which dead animal, the cartoonist tried to compare to Bush? I only know from saw many comparison pictures of Bush´s behavior/character with animals as jokes... Clinton´s sex jokes.... Really nothing serious...

Waits for Liebling to read the posts that show the changing of my mind... :)

Actually, the more I think about it, the more obvious it is that it's meant to be racist. Because comparing the president to the chimp brought back memories of all those Bush is a chimp jokes, I didn't think anything of it other than Republicans thinking that Obama's stupid, but the more I looked at the cartoon and with the news of Travis and the killing......

it IS bad.

If the chimp was meant to portray Obama, it would have to resemble him. The chimp in the picture is obviously an ordinary chimp. When they portrayed Bush as a chimp, it looked like Bush.

So yes, it's pretty obvious. When I saw the chimp, the first thing that came to my mind was the story that was in the news recently. You mentioned it as well. Then I saw the stimulus reference. I went err, obviously this is going to stir up a shitstorm which it did.

I think the cartoon is more tasteless more than racist.

W Bush was compared to chimps many times

George W. Bush or Chimpanzee?

but there is a history of racism linking black people to primates.

All of us debating this nonsense is exactly what the newspaper wanted. They know how to push our buttons

 :ty: for post humor pictures to compare ape´s behavior with Bush´s behavior... That´s good one... :giggle: I do not see anything that the picture, you posted is tasteless to compare with Obama as dead chimp over that stimulus bill.

I don't think Reba intentionally meant to ruffle anyone's feathers. From my perspective, she just stated what she interpreted the comic to be about, _and_ gave a comment that may have been classified as personal -- but the way I saw it, she was trying to explain to the "misinformed" about what it really was. Nothing really serious, more like "here's it all laid out for you if you are stubborn." But then when the rest of you guys jumped on that opportunity to lynch her, she's retailing in anger wondering what did she do wrong for being simplistic :).

Each person has different interpretation after view the same cartoon picture which mean is their own interpretation.

About the Travis relation to Obama:
You can draw an expression behind this. Travis was normal, until he went crazy aka mental. Obama is "normal", but probably some people are classifying his recent stimulus bill act similar to the behavior Travis was exhibiting.

Look at your own interpretation post after you view the cartoon picture like what Reba, me and others interpreted in different way after view that same picture.

Hold one sec Liebling.. Take 1 step backwards. I don't think Texas guy meant that he was laughing at the comic, I think he meant he was laughing at Bush&Cheney cartoons.. read his sentence again to see it.
It should be okay if he laughs at jokes on Bush and Cheney no? Just like this one:

Please re-read Texanguy´s first sentence carefully...(red bond) - it sound to me that the cartoon picture of dead ape, 2 police officers and bill is funny as the same as Bush & Co. This is my interpretation of cartoon picture to quote his post.

Sure, it doesn't cross the line as much as this monkey/Travis comic. But it does make fun of Cheney in a way.

This is your interpretation view.

Gotta respect that not all people think alike!

No problem Liebling, I know what you are saying and I do agree Texas Guy would be wrong if he is thinking what you are thinking..

But still, however, I think there is still a communication barrier here..

I'll explain again for Texas Guy's defense. I'm not supporting that HE IS making fun of the comic, I'm explaining what he is trying to say:

So what? (The Ape Comic)
It's just a cartoon, y'all (The Ape comic)

Just like most of the politic cartoonists bashed on Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumfield for last 8 years. (Bush Admin comics)
I didn't complain about it, I laughed. (Bush Admin comics)..

The key word for Texas Guy there is it, in his sentence "I didn't complain about it, I laughed." (red bold)

The distinction there that I think is being misinterpreted is that the "it" is classified for Bush Admin.

That's why I'm saying don't jump on Texas Guy until he can explain properly if this is what he meant! To me, he isn't laughing at the Obama comic!

You and I agree same thing on Texas guy´s post.

See Red and Green bond on the list, you made.

Texas guy made 2 sentences in his post to compare red bond with green bond to remind us that it´s just cartoon like Bush & Co. for 8 years and said he laugh in end of his sentence...which mean that he laughed at both red bond and green bond because he think both are the same ´- just cartoon to him.

Remember that Texan Guy also sports a Dixie flag in his signature......

oh we are in USA that we can say anything. It's freedom of speech with no censorship.

What about assuming the responsibility of one's actions for inflammatory comments?

Oh that's right--being responsible for one's comments has died out along with common sense.

Now we are stuck with half-witted and dim-witted.

Sorry but i was making a statement that it applies to every one who are authors, cartoonist and reporters or whoever that leads us to fight each other over racism or so.
I am not up to fight here. *walking back and run away from this forum*

wow! I can't believe anyone finds this funny.

Don´t you know that Travis was shot to death by police after attack last Monday? Do you find this funny that the Cartoonist referred dead Travis who was shot by police last Monday to compare with Obama because of his skin color and ears? The way of his interpretation show itself that Obama should be assassinated over that economic stimulus package...?

He isn't alone, I don't find picture is offensive but funny, it's just cartoon stuff.

That's your opinion about how cartoon picture looks like that but for me, it's about related with Travis, some cartoons could be weird than you think.

For Obama, it's not only of his responsibility on economic stimulus, both of congress and president are so.

What about assuming the responsibility of one's actions for inflammatory comments?

What? You mean I can't run into a crowded theatre and yell "FIRE!!" ??

I guess my movie plans are ruined.

*smh* @ some people in here...

You were probably being sarcastic Byrdie, but I'll say, don't push it to the point you drive happy people away from sharing on the board.. I think it kills the board unintentionally each given time it occurs.. :|

I can't see the cartoon so can't comment on the exact contents, but it's only a cartoon. I'm all for freedom of speech.

Freedom of Speech when it portrays Obama in a negative and racist light?

Yeah, I figured you'd be for that.

For those who DON'T find it offensive, what would make it offensive for you? If the monkey looked more like obama? If the officers used a derogatory word to point out that it's a black monkey? What?

I wasn't being sarcastic because the truth is that common sense and personal responsibility has gone out of the window.

For those who DON'T find it offensive, what would make it offensive for you? If the monkey looked more like obama? If the officers used a derogatory word to point out that it's a black monkey? What?

Maybe if the cops were African-American and the monkey was white???

Exactly. It was the connecting of two totally unrelated events in the way it was done.

Bingo. Along with freedom of speech comes responsibility for that which is said.

I can't respect racism in any form. And to attempt to soft pedal around it only allows it to continue.
