true. that's why i think it's so awesome to have ad'ers like you, dreama, aleser, mrs. bucket and nika (to name a few -- my apologies to others i haven't named) to help educate others about the blind and deafblind.

I agree totally.

Yeah, i hate stuff like that... I always thought the standardized tests for schools here were unfair because i could never see the ruler for the math one, and it took so much longer. Plus there were the pictures *witch is the same as this... i dont know...* Crap, i didnt see a bird until i got my first monocular in 9th grade. And i cant see one without a monocular... how am i supposed to identify... Just like this one time i lived in a school district where there were no sped busses so i rode a regular one home, i got sexually harassed one day and i was asked to identify them by a picture in the yearbook... Yeah... that worked well... NOT.

oh, wow. yeah. there are just *so* many things sighted (and hearing!) people don't understand about the blind/vi (or d/hoh). i know exactly what you mean about being unable to identify birds until 9th grade. since i was born totally blind, i had to have early exposure to animals in a zoo so i could learn how to identify them. sometimes i had to start from scratch (and this is embarrassing for me to admit, but it's true), but my itinerant teacher had to explain what each animal was to me, let me feel it and then explain the difference between its' front and back end. some people may think that's funny, but when you're a blind or vi child and can't see that for yourself, you have no idea about those kinds of things.

I understand, its like it is with moms dogs, we have SEVERAL... and the only way i can identify them is to touch them. Exept jake, the big one.. he is easy, and people just dont get it.

about identifying your mother's dogs, have you ever tried putting different textured collars on each one or different sounding bells on their collars?

nope, the only one i need to I.D. is jake. But have you ever noticed if you try to show sighted people how it is when you are blind they get p*ssed? A long time ago all the dogs were inside, and they would have accidents in the house, and i got p*ssed because i kept stepping in them, and my sister kept laughing at me so i blindfolded her and walked her around and into some dog poo... she got all pissed. Hey, i didnt see it... (well, that time i was really looking hard for it...)

yes, i have. sighted people just don't understand how challenging it can be to take care of a dog (or guide dog) when you can't see. i remember how my first guide dog sugar used to have severe separation anxiety and used to urinate in my apartment all the time. it was extremely frustrating for me because i could do absolutely nothing about the accidents (until my friend told me about anti-anxiety meds for dogs). i also hate having to clean up accidents when you can't see. fortunately, tigger has never had an accident in the apartment, so i've been lucky, but i always keep some extra shampoo and a scrub brush around just in case.

i didn't know that either for the longest time. i don't know how long anxi-anxiety meds have been available for dogs, but i first learned about them back in the early 90s. if my next guide dog has problems with severe separation anxiety, he or she is definitely going on meds because i refuse to keep cleaning up accidents day in and day out.

I agree totally. I would o the same thing. Maybe i should get some for moms dogs... maybe it would make them shut up...

i should mention that i don't know whether the major is actually called psychiatry or psychology.

I think it's psychology at the B.A. level and psychiatry at the post med school level, although I might be wrong.

Man I can't tell you how many times that has happened to me! My cat taking a dump somewhere and me missing it completely!

What does 10-4 mean?

it's a confirmation meaning, "i copy" or "that's affirmative." alot of cb (in the 60s and 70s) and ham operators use the term 10-4. so do radio dispatchers of any kind (fire, police, etc.) or people communicating with a main dispatch center.
