new thread

that's good. i know some counselors are better than others. some tend to be *very* strict about maintaining a certain gpa while others let you slack off a bit. mine has high expecations of me, but at the same time, she understands the challenges i face as well. it has taken me a long time to earn my bachelor's degree, but i'm finally going to do it!

Yup, i would probably be strict about gpa too. I am happy with mine for the term but.. I am glad you are going for your bachelor's! thats really exiting!

in today's world, if you want to earn a "comfortable" income, it really is important to earn a bachelor's degree or higher.

i plan to also earn my master's and ph.d. (thanks to my 10th grade biology teacher who taught me about the importance of education and told me that i could be anything i wanted to be), but much of that will depend on finances.

as you know, college is *very* expensive!

Whoa, college isnt free for blind people in Wisconsin? It is in Texas, that's the only reason i could go. I am glad your biology teacher taught you such an important lesson and i am glad that you are going on with your education.

here in wisconsin the most dvr will pay for is a bachelor's degree. in some cases (depending on your major), they *may* pay for a master's, but this is rare.

my biology teacher was wonderful. he used to lecture us specifically every week on the importance of education and while most students rolled their eyes, for some reason, the things he had to say really struck a chord with me.

Dang, maybe you could come to Texas to finish, then it will be free, and maybe i could be lucky enough to interpret. That would be awesome!

Thats really good about the Biology teacher. I had a geology teacher like that my senior year. He was great.

that would be cool!

what i'm actually *thinking* about doing (and this is a big if) is moving down to arizona before i graduate, earning my bachelor's degree there and completing my master's (and possibly) ph.d. degree(s) in arizona.

Thats cool. What do you want them in?

i'd like my master's to be in social work with a minor in psychiatry and my ph.d. to be in either psychiatry or disability rights (i'm leaning more towards psychiatry). i think having either a minor (master's) or a ph.d. in psychiatry would help make me a very effective social worker.

That sounds really cool. Good luck with that.

I am kind of confused on witch direction i am going to go at.

I could do interpreting *very cool*.
Or, i could get my teacher certificate and teach special ed *also cool*.
But i am so confused as to witch i want more!!

is there a way you could take classes in both so you could get a better idea of which one you prefer? otherwise you could always major in one and minor in the other. i wish i would have done that with my bachelor's degree. if i could have gone back and reversed things, i would have minored in psychiatry.

I don't know *takes out course catalog* i will find out though. Can you still take the psychiatry classes?

i should mention that i don't know whether the major is actually called psychiatry or psychology. i'll have to find out. that probably depends upon the college or university you attend. what i want is to have the same knowledge that a psychiatrist has.

No matter how long it took, it is still a cool achievement!

thanks! as i always say, better late than never!

you know, when i was a freshman in college, there was a 40 year old in class and i still remember thinking how *old* i thought that was. now i'm fast approaching the tail end of 40 and don't feel that way at all. funny how your perspective changes as you grow older. now to me, age is nothing but a number.

Yup, age dosent mean anything except that you have had more life experience.

if your bored why don't you find a HOBBY to do or get out of house go shopping or go to deaf cafe and meet deaf people to practices your sign language ah
