that would be awesome! i absolutely LOVE mine! if you were to get a braillenote, which kind of keyboard would you get? QWERTY or perkins? i have a perkins because i braille much faster than i type. i'm able to type on a QWERTY keyboard at a pretty fast clip, but the keys on the braillenote are smaller and because of that, it's easier for me to braille. i also like its' ergonomic perkins keyboard -- something the QWERTY keyboard doesn't have.

perkins, for 2 reasons, the first being the keys are easier to use, on the QWERTY the keys are just way too close, and the 2nd reason is because it makes me think about my braille, and hopefully increase my speed, I have been trying to practice more this break.

braille practice is an excellent reason to get a perkins keyboard. when i first got my braillenote, i wasn't sure how much i really liked the perkins after finding out that i could have used my braillenote as a communications device for the deafblind, but now that humanware has a tty capability, i'm no longer concerned about that.

Thanks, thats cool. I think it rocks that humanware has a tty capability.

yeah. it's about time. many of us db'ers have only been begging for one for the past several years. oh well. at least they listened. (no pun intended)

I agree, i saw the deaf blind communicator at convention, and i almost flipped, i thought it was the coolest thing ever!

yeah. some of the technology they've come out with really is amazing. i'll never forget the first time one of my instructors at the local deafblind center introduced me to the telebraille and told me i could make phone calls. i was estatic and couldn't wait to wake up every morning to learn how to use it! LOL. even though i have ci's, i *still* treasure my telebraille!

I understand, I really do, It was the same way when i started doing sleepshade training, well, at first i kind of didnt want to, but i started doing cane travel, and its like hey, im not staring at the ground trying not to trip, and braille and computers i just think its amazing not to press my face to what i am reading. Right now i am using a demo of zoomtext... but i think i like jaws much better... although i dont care for 40 minute mode... grrr.

oh yeah. you're using the demo version of jaws. that stinks. oh well. i guess it's better than nothing. i've heard from so many legally blind people that it's so much easier to rely on zoomtext AND jaws or jaws exclusively instead of their residual vision. i strongly agree with nfb's philosophy of sleepshade training. who knows? i might even attend an nfb center to refine some of my skills even though i was born totally blind. after all, we could all use some improvement in our blindness skills.

I agree, I wish i could go back just for braille and computers. Yes, jaws is much better. zoomtext can be a pain...

i wonder if dars would let you go back to the nfb for computer and braille training especially if it meant increasing your employability? perhaps you could use that as a basis for an argument for funding.

I hope so, but DARS here dosent really like the NFB, nor do my family... *rolls eyes* they all think it is a cult... crazy...

Yup, they aren't always easy to deal with.

nope. i had a WONDERFUL counselor. in fact, she was my first dvr counselor and understood the many changes i experienced in my hearing (due to my progressive hearing loss) as well as the reasons why i changed majors several times (again due to my hearing loss). the counselor i'm working with now REALLY clashed with me in the beginning, but ever since she had a child of her own, she has really shown alot of compassion and understanding -- and we've gotten along famously ever since. she's also great about understanding my bipolar too.

Thats really good yall started getting along. I loathe calling my counselor. At first she didnt want to send me to college, because i took one class at LA tech in ruston while at the center, and i bombed it because the teacher was evil. But she is happy i passed this semester, and thank God she let me even come.

that's good. i know some counselors are better than others. some tend to be *very* strict about maintaining a certain gpa while others let you slack off a bit. mine has high expecations of me, but at the same time, she understands the challenges i face as well. it has taken me a long time to earn my bachelor's degree, but i'm finally going to do it!
