Mother seeks girl's hysterectomy

AND there are proven natural methods for helping with
this situation. There are homeopathics that can decrease
the menstral flow to almost nothing. Good Grief! The
Uterus has all kinds of muscles and ligaments attached
to it, it holds up internal organs, and the mom says they
are trying to help the girl? I don't think so. I think some
one is exhausted and trying to make the role of care giver
a little bit eiaser.

Agreed! Whose needs are truly being addressed here?

remember I told you STICK TO the topic, refrain from personal attacks? Do abide by it, please.

I'd rather if you explain to me how a severly disabled person would be at greater risk of.... etc.

ever heard of condoms?

Fuzzy

What the hell are you talking about? You are the one that started the attacks on a post I addressed to Reba. Secondly, what do condoms have to do with sexual abuse and a child at risk? Are you advising those who are in a position to sexually abuse a disabled child to use condoms? Or are you saying that the abuse is acceptable if the abuser uses a condom to prevent impregnating the child? And if you can't see that a disabled child is at greater risk of sexual abuse, you are living in a world of delusion. You continually bring up questions that you can't answer, and then attempt to divert the fact that you ahve no answer by asking another question. Stop throwing your ridicuals statements out oif you have nothing with which to back them up. You made the satement, support it. Otherwise, it is safe to assume that you are typing before your brain has been fully engaged.

That's what I am tryin' to say all along. And, will it cause the girl to have hot/cold flashes if, the womb should remove ? It could cause the side effects if, the womb should remove. I think, the mom should wait until her daughter is over the age of 50 to stop menstrual cycle due to agin'. I know, I know it may take years to wait that long, but it will worth payin' off her patience. Some people have no patience and want somethin' to end their tedious task sooner.

And also no more estrogen production, which can, in and of itself, cause other health problems, especially in such a young individual. There is hormone replacement therapy, but that, too carries health risks.

Keep ovaries is the mainly value.

Unfortunlately yes, she have to take hormone replacement therapy after total hysterectomy surgery but I hope they don´t give her hormone pills.

I personally don´t support hysterectomy unless there´re life-threatening.

Did you know that hormones pills could lead breast cancer...? The breast cancer is the mainly reason why a lot of doctors advised their patients to not take hormone treatment (pills) for menopause. It does the same with hormones treatment (pills) after hysterectomy surgery as well.

A lot of doctors do not support hysterectomy surgery here in Germany for many reasons but they only doing to save their patient´s risk life if there´re life-threatening.

:dunno: I read online news daily. I pasted this article right now after got it instead of go to google. It could be that you confused Katie with someone else?

I guess it could be Ashley, you referred to?

BBC NEWS | Americas | Treatment keeps girl child-sized

Along with hormone doses to limit her growth, Ashley's parents also opted for surgery to block breast growth and had her uterus and appendix removed.

It could be that Katie´s mother use Ashley´s case of last January 2007 as advantage?

It goes worst if UK government give mother right, then more parents will apply their rights to do something with their disabled children after that. A lot of parents are unaware when they made an unneccassary or mistakes decision when they thought the best interest for their child. The problem is that they didn´t search enough...

I am male but I am curious: If mother doesn't want her daugther to have period at all. Is it possible she get sick when she see her daugther have period and decide to have it removed just because of period sight? If that is the case. I disagree.

Otherwise, if period doesn't bother daughter then I see no point to have it remove. There are most Pro on many side on alldeaf and few are con. I really hope that Lord will touch doctors' minds and hearts what HE said!

Yes, I agree. There is an increased risk of developing breast cancer with hormone replacement therapy. And hysterectomy can result in other health problems, as well. Of course, if there is a problem such as fibroid tumors, cancer, prolapse, etc., then it needs to be done to correct those problems. But internal organs are there for a reason, and when we remove one, or alter it in some way, if affects the way the rest of the body functions. Everything is related.

And, if its just a matter of her not having a period, there are forms of birth control that could take care of that. Norplant stops the menstrual cycle.

Katie's mom is taking gruelling care of her daughter for the last 15 years. Suddenly changing tampons or napkins once a month while wiping Katie's butt will make a difference???

Indeed, who'se needs are being addressed

easy easy - I am saying I never heard of such silliness as a womb being a form of birth control. (on the contrary - it always seemed to me to be rather a symbol of fertility)

The abusers are not stupid, and using condoms will suffice to have rape goes undetested for years!... Just think a little... sheesh.

I think doing the surgery is kinda extreme especially if the mother doesnt know how Katie will react to her periods. Also, like Jillo said, there are pills to stop the menstral cycle or to reduce the pain of the cramps.

If the periods prove to be too painful and Katie cant handle them, then try the pills..if they dont work, then do the surgery. I believe in using surgery as the last resort or for life threatening conditions.

Good point.........didn't think about that. I'm VERY pro- proactive to prevent pregnancy from sexual abuse. Removing the uterus just seems so extreme. There IS birth control pills or even tube tying!
Sexual abuse is VERY common among MR and disabled girls in general.
There was a case a couple of years ago where a woman in a persistant vegetiative state, gave birth to a baby.

I have a few low functionin' friends where I met at church - most of them are on their birth control pills and live on their own apartments under the Independent Livin' Care. And, also there's REM to help them, too. The REM workers believe that they should allow low functionin' clients to have sex since they are adults, but also at the same time they have to take their birth control pills.

Katie's mom doesn't want to remove her daughter's womb because of sexual abuse. She have stated her reasons. Since we don't know anything about Katie and her situation, we certainly shouldn't debate what Katie's mom should or shouldn't do. I am sure she is well aware of all the stuff that was mentioned here - HRT, BC pills, homeopathy, sexual abuse, a hysterectomy being serious surgery with consequences, and whatever,
and to me the mere fact that family drs - the ones who normally perform such surgery as the last resort - are behind Mom's decision, is telling a lot.

Yes, it´s an exactly what I am support for.

I would support mother´s decision to give form of birth control to reduce period pains or whatever but without surgery.

Accord your post, if Katie´s mother complaint how stress she is to take care of Katie with tampon, etc like what you mentioned then send her to Nursing home. I know you will say that it´s not stress, you are talking about but want to save Katie´s suffering. But it still make no difference.

Anyone should think twice before they are able to keep their disabled child after discover their newborn is disabled or during pregnancy. There´re alway best solution for the parents how to do with their severe disabled children.

I personally beleive that the doctors aware about cons/pros over surgery and give his/her positive to Katie´s mother but she see different and use Ashley´s situation as advantage.

Why? Because it should be between Katie, mother and doctor/professor, not public. Why public for? It tells alot....

Exactly, the reason why I don´t support hysterectomy surgery. They alway CAN find good solution how to help Katie to deal with pains or reduce pains without surgery.

what I am saying is that Katie's mother wouldn't mind to change Katie's tampons while washing her pooped butt.
