Mom sprayed 2 year-old for tantrum

No kidding. Mom's frustration must been pent for so long time then all sudden she just unleash her fury upon her own kid. In some way, kids deserved to be smacked around to be discipline. Too many today kids are running and think they are on the equal to their adult counterpart. Jeebus.

Nowadays, kids are being problematic and dont obey their parents. That why you see so many news of school shooting or kids doing drugs or get themselves in troubles. Parents can't do anything because kids are being too overprotected by laws. One spank or hit to a kid and it's CHILD ABUSE. wtf? It is sad that parents are losting the control over their kids bec parents are afraid that kids are going to sue them and put them in jail. Pity.

I am going to side with.......lumbingmi.

I saw the videotape and the child wasn't being constantly sprayed on. If the child was sprayed continously, the child would have fallen from the force of water sprayer, plus have markings all over it's body. Neither didn't happen.

Granted the mother could have done something different than using the water sprayer but sometimes its not easy being parent to a two year old.....

Afterall it's called 'terrible two's' for a reason.

Poor that kid is 2 yrs old. Well, Kids sometimes not obey their parents.. That is common normal. I'm a parent of 3 kids... Just teach them as disciples. Very important is disciples with kids and BE PATIENCE with kids... Parents should know better than that! not need abuse! What is point ? ? Kids will not learn anything anyway!

Here is a detailed video of the incident and the video also shows how powerful the high pressure water hose is by showing several experiments with several items that can be easily destroyed if using it upclose.

There is another article which has more informations on it. Officials believe that the child possibly was wetting herself in the back seat of the car and hence, the mother got upset because of that.

Police look into pregnant woman’s punishment of 2½-year-old daughter

A Florida mother caught on tape using a pressurized hose at a car wash to discipline her toddler daughter could end up in hot water after police meet Friday to consider filing child endangerment charges.

“She appeared [to be] a parent who thought she was disciplining her child for acting up. It’s a unique form of punishment that I don’t think anyone has ever seen,” Commander Matt Irwin of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said Friday on TODAY. “It’s not acceptable in my mind.”

The incident began on Feb. 24 when a white Hyundai Elantra pulled into a self-service bay at the Magical Car Wash in Orlando.

Although children often can be heard screaming and carrying on, manager Marlene Diaz told TODAY’s David Gregory that the shrieks she heard from one little girl that day were quite different and disturbing.

“The screams were more high-pitched. There were more cries of help,” Diaz said.

Diaz went to investigate the commotion but did not intervene. She did not get the full picture until later, when she reviewed her company’s security camera recordings.

“When I saw her, her face was red. You could see that she was crying, and that [by] the way she was crying that she was in distress,” Diaz said.

Summoned by Diaz, police later determined that the toddler’s mother, who is 22 and five months pregnant, pulled into the car wash for the sole purpose of hosing down her daughter — possibly for wetting herself in the backseat of the car.

At the end of the surveillance tape of the incident, which police seized as potential evidence, the woman is seen stripping her daughter’s soaked clothes off and wrapping her up in a towel.

Tough love or child abuse?

Diaz said she struggled to imagine what infraction the child could have committed to warrant being hosed down like that, and couldn’t come up with any excuse for the mother’s action. She said it was clear that the woman was trying to teach the child some sort of lesson.

“The mother was speaking in Spanish,” Diaz said. “She said, ‘You are not going to disrespect me. You are not going to treat me bad. Don’t worry, I’m not going to hit you now. I’m just going to spray you with cold water.’”

According to Diaz and police, the woman tested the water pressure on the hose before using it on the little girl. The car wash’s hoses have various settings that go up to 1,200 pounds per square inch, but police do not believe the water pressure the woman applied on the child was anywhere close to that.

After the surveillance tape was broadcast by the media, the woman turned herself in to police for questioning and denied abusing the child, who remains in her care, Irwin said.

“There are no physical injuries that our medical staff could find and document,” he said.

Child welfare officials were notified of the incident. Police plan to meet with them later Friday and decide whether to pursue child endangerment charges against the mother.

“We don’t know yet. We are going to roundtable that this morning,” Irwin said.

This also says the mother even tested the hose pressure before working it on the child.

If it was the case for the child wetting herself in the backseat, That does not even justify what the mother did to her. The mother might thought it was another form of discipline but that alone could have been handled in a different way. Sure, kids do have their own way of having a tantrum but does that say it's ok for the parents to put it down on them? No it doesn't.

Im sooooooo happy that surveillance tape was there.. If not then, little girl will be suffer as HELL ! ! Poor her face ! !

In no matter what, All children are so innocent.... As parents are responsibly to teach them right/wrong things. They will learn! PERIOD! ! !

You did not say "spanking" on your first post, You said "kids deserved to be smacked around " that is striking repeatedly smacking upon the child can lead aggressively. And that is child abuse. I've seen it happened before, on the news about a 4 years old or 2 years old girl, There was a sickening video of the mother smacking her toddler in the parking lot just because the toddler wouldn't behave at the shopping store, and she even was send to jail.

Now, I agree with you about the spanking routine, but not the smacking around routine.

that lady need to learn to ignore her kids like i did.. i ignored TJ when he had his terrible two tantrums. he realized i was not paying attention one day and he quit. LOL.. it worked! :)

Agreed. I would just walk away from my son when he would throw a tantrum at that age. As soon as he realized he wasn't getting attention for his behavior, he stopped.

This video makes me sick to my stomach! I am so glad the video camera caught this mother in action. Imagine waht else she might have done to that child if she hadn't gotten caught!

I couldnt do something like this no matter how bad my son's tantrums are. I dont get it why people do things like that. Yes, my son's tantrums drive me crazy but I am the adult there and I have the choice to address them calmly or not. Wouldnt solve the problem ...that's why that age is called "terrible twos"! Some people need serious parental classes or anger management classes! :ugh:

I think you are way over simplifying the issues involved in school shootings. And it takes more than one spank to a child to be charged with child abuse.

I agree, He thinks school shooting was because of lack of discipline that the kids had, it is because of mental disability.

The mother pinned the child against the wall and sprayed her continously for 30 -45 secs. The pressure on the hose was high enough to knock the child off balance. (notice how the child braces herself against the wall to keep from falling) Then if that wasnt enough she sprayed in the upper chest and neck area and very near the face.

If this isnt child abuse I dont know what is. At age 22 and five months pregnant and having a 2 1/2 year old child - I think this mother simply needs to have her tubes tied and burnt for the greater benefit. She has no buisness having children she cannot appropriately take care of. You can say take her child away but knowing this woman, she'll just keep having more. *sigh* such a sad world we live in today. :(

Yeah I learned that from the teacher at therapy center where my son attended when he was young. They told me just ignore him and he will stop. so i did and it continued for short time then TJ just realized I wasnt paying attention to him and he quit for good. So I know it really worked. Thats what I told my best friend when her daughter have the terrible twos and she said wow you are right it actually worked. haha!

Me too was disgusted by the video I got to see it this morning on Today's show. Poor kid with red face and crying. no child deserve that punishemnt for wet pants? What if it wasnt her fault? maybe the mother didnt take her to bathroom before they left having no patience or something? it sound like to me the mother have no patience at all. :(

The mother seriously needs to be sprayed by the hose turned on full force!

What a crying shame that this happened. There are other alternative ways she could have handled the situation.

**nodding** 2 year old kids have toileting accidents. It happens. You change their clothes and go on. No biggie!

Geez,She was released from jail early Saturday after posting $1,000 bail. Jail records do not list an attorney. The nurse reported the girl had no visible injuries during an examination 11 days after the incident.

Mom accused in carwash case released from jail -- OrlandoSentinel.com

Wow, I'm surprise there was no redness, bruises or any other injuries after aim the high-pressure water near the girl's body.

Still it does not solve what the mother did, cause young children do accident wet their pants, it is ridiculous to punish a child over this especially when a child is only 2 years old.
