Also, does anyone stop to think that perhaps he was molested by his father? People who molest were sometimes molested themselves by a family member.

I don't know if this comment is meant to indicate sympathy for him, or to excuse any behavior in that area, but to me it is no excuse. We all have choices in this world, and if he was molested, he can choose whether or not to do the same thing. God knows he's had enough money to get help for whatever ails him. It's also his choice whether or not to accept or seek help.

1st verse
Its close to midnight and something evils lurking in the dark
Under the moonlight you see a sight that almost stops your heart
You try to scream but terror takes the sound before you make it
You start to freeze as horror looks you right between the eyes,
Youre paralyzed
Chorus
cause this is thriller, thriller night
And no ones gonna save you from the beast about strike
You know its thriller, thriller night
Youre fighting for your life inside a killer, thriller tonight

2nd verse
You hear the door slam and realize theres nowhere left to run
You feel the cold hand and wonder if youll ever see the sun
You close your eyes and hope that this is just imagination
But all the while you hear the creature creepin up behind
Youre out of time

Chorus
cause this is thriller, thriller night
There aint no second chance against the thing with forty eyes
You know its thriller, thriller night
Youre fighting for your life inside of killer, thriller tonight

Bridge
Night creatures call
And the dead start to walk in their masquerade
Theres no escapin the jaws of the alien this time
(theyre open wide)
This is the end of your life

3rd verse
Theyre out to get you, theres demons closing in on every side
They will possess you unless you change the number on your dial
Now is the time for you and I to cuddle close together
All thru the night Ill save you from the terror on the screen,
Ill make you see
Chorus
That this is thriller, thriller night
cause I can thrill you more than any ghost would dare to try
Girl, this is thriller, thriller night
So let me hold you tight and share a killer, diller, chiller
Thriller here tonight

(rap performed by vincent price)
Darkness falls across the land
The midnite hour is close at hand
Creatures crawl in search of blood
To terrorize yawls neighbourhood
And whosoever shall be found
Without the soul for getting down
Must stand and face the hounds of hell
And rot inside a corpses shell
The foulest stench is in the air
The funk of forty thousand years
And grizzy ghouls from every tomb
Are closing in to seal your doom
And though you fight to stay alive
Your body starts to shiver
For no mere mortal can resist
The evil of the thriller

I feel like posting it here. :D

It's easy for us to judge him based on second-hand accounts.

I have found that a lot of people who have celebrity status are subject to such speculation every single day. We really don't know who they are unless we know them personally. Sometimes, even that is not enough.

i couldn't agree more. this is why i feel sorry for pop stars and others in the limelight like michael jackson and britney spears (especially given her recent diagnosis of bipolar since most people don't understand this disorder). they are under so much added pressure that it's no wonder they behave the way they do. while i don't condone michael jackson's molestation behavior towards children (or dangling his own child over a railing), i do think he deserves understanding for what he is currently going through.

If they can't handle the pressure then they need to be out of the show business but they choose to continue to live this particular lifestyle.

that's easier said than done. when you've been famous for a long time (like michael jackson), sometimes it's not easy to get out of the business.

There have been numerous famous people who have dropped out of the limelight and gotten out of the business...

I think people are trying to shirk their personal responsibilities by making excuses for their behavior.

just because *some* people have gotten out of the business doesn't mean it's easy for everyone to do. when you have been in the music business for as long as michael jackson has, it's all you've ever known which makes it difficult to change careers or aspirations.

as for your second point, i agree with you, but don't think that applies to britney spears. she has been diagnosed by a psychiatrist as having a chemical imbalance in her brain which she cannot help. also, due to her bipolar, it causes her to exhibit reckless and irresponsible behavior (such as drinking) when manic. when people are in a manic state, they do not have the capability to judge their behavior and often engage in dangerous activities such as gambling/spending sprees, abusing drugs and/or alcohol, impulsivity and promiscuity. most people who don't understand bipolar disorder think those who have the illness are just using it as an excuse, have a character flaw, are personally responsible for causing the illness and/or can control their behavior, but none of these things are true.

I remember him before the 80's; before the surgeries. Before the weirdness. That's the way I will choose to remember him. Regardless of his past, I think the most important part of his today - is to attempt to make peace with the Almighty. I guess in my own mind that's where my thoughts go. If his time is limited; and I believe it is; then there are things he needs to tend to. Perhaps I'm preaching to the choir here (points at self). Making amends with myself and others has proven to be my most important life's work.

No offense but Brittney Spears belongs on another planet.....

now here comes a tricky part. How you know Britney Spears does indeed have a bipolar disorder?

Remember - this is Britney Spears so play with me for a moment - this is a world famous celebrity. she's got a rep to protect. she's got lot to lose... and she's got money to make anything go away. so the best way to excuse her wild behavior and to regain back the custody of her children? take a trip or two to some expensive private medical facility and have the P.R. to tell the public that she's been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. After few days or so... she gets wheeled out of facility, smiling, waving at cameras. She appears on magazine covers and some shows like Oprah or whatever about her "amazing recovery" and some sob story. People sympathized her and all.

:hmm:

All through history many, if not most, of the greatest artists have been extremely screwed up individuals.

Personally I don't think Michael Jackson has ever matured past the age of 10.

A man at one of my jobs went on a rampage with the bosses. Most of us agreed his emotions had some justification, but few felt his actions / words did.

No one had ever seen him drink or drunk and not one person thought he had been drinking that day -- But he turned himself in to Detox that afternoon, so drunk he could barely stand.

The company had to pay for his "recovery" and after his "recovery" he got his job back.

To my mind Jiro's scenario is entirely possible.

"screwed up individuals?!" <very mad>

spears was diagnosed by a pychiatrist and as long as she fits the diagnosis of bipolar under the DSM, it doesn't matter what you or others think about her behavior. i've had bipolar for 2 years and based on the symptoms spears exhibited, it is clear that she was manic and her erratic behavior was a result of this. if you or others think she is crazy or an attention whore, so be it, but i happen to disagree.

by the way, bipolar is a life-long illness. spears was not "cured" of her bipolar since there is no cure for this disorder. spears did not recover miraculously. she was released from the hospital because she did not obey the orders of her psychiatrist to stay inpatient until she was stabilized. furthermore, mood stabilizers (which are prescribed for bipolar) usually take a few days to a week to work, so i can see where it's entirely possible that spears left the hospital smiling to the cameras. it's also possible that her meds did not have enough time to work effectively and she was still manic.
