yes that"s right!!!!!!!
See what I mean.
yes that"s right!!!!!!!
Sigh...
How did this progress?
Person 1: "CI can make people hear better than a HA."
Person 2: "That is so audist. Some hearing is NOT better than no hearing at all."
Person 3: "Yea I know deaf people who do not use devices, and they are doing a master's thesis."
Person 4: "Yea I have a friend who has a CI and he works as a janitor, but my other deaf friends who have HAs are more successful."
Person 5: "I'm going to try to make things neutral. Sometimes the CI works for some people. Sometimes it doesn't work for others. Everyone makes their own choices. No one is better than anyone."
Person 1: "HUH?"
i got the invitation too. but it isn't free
The point of implanting a cochlear implant is to provide more hearing. My post was saying that if the CI provides more hearing than the hearing aid, then that would be a "successful" implantation, a CI that provides benefit.
You read more into it because you chose to.
I know... but the point is....
I love you! Gawd knows I wish I had more hearing parents such as yourself in my area. I know for a fact I would see fewer deaf pre-teens and adolescents with adjustment and identity disorders.
It is so refreshing to see a hearing parent who actually gets, on a gut level, the holistic nature of deafness. Your child is lucky, indeed.
Before you get to excited Mountain Man you should know that Jillio used to heap the same lavish praise upon FJ for raising her daughter with ASL and for educating her in a bi-bi school. FJ was a recipient of many of Jillio's coveted "bingos" and "yeppers" as well as ultimately achieving from Jillio the anointed status of a parent who "gets it".
But alas, all good things must come to an end and as FJ began to research the implant and then-gasp-chose to implant her child, the praise stopped. No more "bingos". No more "yeppers". FJ no longer was a parent who "got it" but instead she became to Jillio just like all the other parents of a successfully implanted child on this forum. Instead of praise she became subject to an almost daily barrage of venom and personal insults that as you can see, continues to this very day from the one, and thankfully, only Jillio.
Rick
FJ,
She reads more into it because she has an agenda. It was clear what you were talking about and the context in which your statement was made.

Rick
basically you just gave mountain man one other reason not to implant. Thanks.
what agenda?
It progresses that way because it's what some people have said to us. Not necessarily on this forum, but just in general life. I've encountered that myself.
See what I mean.
I thought you based your decision because you wanted your daughter to be proud deaf.
I can't figure out what that would be either.
Any child who is able to effectively communicate with those around her is REALLY, REALLY cute. And those being restricted by their environment are also REALLY, REALLY cute. Even the kids I work with, that are suffering from adjustment and identity issues because of the early environment they were in that was not conducive to understanding their deafness are REALLY, REALLY cute.

I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree. This is exactly why threads progress like this. It happens on the other side too.
Person 1: A guy with a CI needs to have an CART interpreter.
Person 2: I am so tired of people bashing the CI, saying that it doesn't work.
Sound familiar?
And PFH, I do see it, but I see it ON BOTH sides. I'm calling it out because there is a huge difference between disagreeing about a specific statement and jumping the gun... the latter has been happening a ridiculous amount of times.
And you know what's sad? An individual can even feel further oppressed/angry because they assumed something that another person said. Those assumptions never become corrected. It's a vicious cycle.
I agree that in that situation, I may have stepped forward too early, but I really felt like that was the point of the post, (proving that a spoken language interpreter wasn't "enough" for a CI user) especially because of the title. Perhaps I was wrong. (But then the  poster started bashing CIs again, and I got mad.)
