Lies about CI's

That is what I have been trying to tell her and the other oralists..that they dont seem to show empathy towards the deaf people who werent successful with the methods they believe in. All I got were excuses ..well, since general society wont give us a lot of support, we have to fight for it but only to get told that we are anti-CI.

Why does this sound so familiar?

Oh yea, they called FJ for being anti-Deaf for supporting the CI....

We usually lump people together into catergoies. If s/he isn't on our side, that means they must be on the FAR end of the other side.

To me, when it comes to deaf politics:
10% of the people here are neutral
88% of the people here lean somewhat one way or the other
2% of the people here are extremes (Pro-CI or Pro-ASL all the way)

But this is how people perceive things:
75% are on my side
25% are extremes and totally wrong.

This is how I've always seen it since as of recent. People, especially deafs (will explain) tend to form packs and patrol around. Seen any hearing packs around here, aside from our CI moms?

Participating in the general threads get uninteresting. Some are just waiting to defend their turf the moment hostiles appear, then it is showdown. Some deafs are extremely tough on their stance and backing of another, BUT they are the ones getting called out on, so it is fair game. It looks like usual minority behavior.. psychologically speaking those who get oppressed will fight back viciously. It's only easier on the internet where anonymity is retained.

And don't forget that they called me an oralist in that very post  An oralist, really? I provide my child with ASL in an oral program, and ASL at home, she has an ASL tutor and she is active in a Deaf church and the Deaf community. BUT none of that counts because she uses spoken language!

FJ, I remember that distinctly you explained that in the past. Interesting how quickly people forget.

FJ, your own robes in these matters aren't as white you know.. :P
I guess it's only if you're really interested in continuing these arguments that get nowhere, not my thing to judge.
I don't get anything out of these other than observing behaviors and arguments.

Oh well..life is a bitch.

Also, I would have never allowed my child to be in an oral enviroment with her hearing aids. It would have been cruel. She could not understand spoken language and would have simply been guessing. Now, she understands running, complex speech just through listening.

Thank you :ty: also to your previous post. (I still haven't worked out this multiple quote posting thing).
I can see now, as a parent, why you made the choices you did.

Drawing from my own experience, I am advocating that sign language, the Deaf community, bi-lingual schools be made available to all d/Deaf. Whether they be HoH, Deaf, deaf or d/Deaf with CIs. BiBi schools should also have distinction classes,if they don't already, for those children who are VO sign language only. Parents should have access to full information on ALL options, so they can make the right decisions for the well-being of their child. "Ignorance is no longer bliss - Be educated".

Just like in the political threads between the Conservatives and Liberals.

Again all the things posted here are lies since it is a thread about lies.

Let the thread backfire on the starter.

It just shows that this issue isn't as black & white as some would make it to be.

There have been a lot of new updates and posts in this thread and several others since I last logged on. Several of them are along the lines of what I have been thinking lately. I seriously question the reason behind why some posters are here. I think the vast majority of posters here are deaf, or want to learn about deafness, or want to meet someone deaf, etc. Yet it has become very obvious to most of us that some posters seem to identify nothing with us, argue everthing with us down to the bare semantics. It is wondered by many of us why this goes on. I took the first step last night after a certain post, to add 4 to my never-used before ignore list, and I'm aware others are starting to based on what I'm reading in posts and emails tonight.

+3. I've added someone to my ignore list recently because I'm tired of the constant arguing that she does no matter how trivial it is from most people's pov. I almost *never* put people on ignore.

Is it true that metal detector wipe out mapping? I read something about that today. I have to admit it, when I walked in a metal detector in FL airport, it did give off static sounds.

The implant company told me that it may make a weird sound, but it was safe and would not damge the device.
