Why would I be trying to get anyone arrested? Or, is that your implication?

DOMA very clearly defines marriage as being between a man and a woman.

I don't think anyone is claiming they are against two consenting adults being in a "union" if it is same sex. The definition of the word "marriage" is what is being contested.

Wow. You do think literally. You said they were engaged in criminal activity. I said, "try to get them arrested." Its sarcasm, as in you're wrong.

Just boggles my mind how someone can be so against two people who love each other, support each other, raise children together, and live their lives without harming another single soul legitimizing their relationship. Especially when it has virtually no effect on the ones objecting.

And this is love and tolerance?
Same.

What is the difference in the end? They were productive citizens, raised good kids who became adults with values, paid taxes, supported their community, etc, etc.

OMG...could it be? Just like you or me or anyone? Except for one thing about them that has no real effect on your life.

To me, it is almost heading the same direction as racism. Those (insert different race here) are the same kind of people you and me are. Yet, for some superficial biological reason they had no control over, they are made to be less than others in our society. They are separated and ostrasized for no valid and logical reason.

Actually the federal government does not recognize same sex marriages. If you were to do a very simple search, you would find many case laws regarding that very thing.

It is so sad. I am not pointing fingers, and I understand both sides of the argument, but I have observed that religion divides people while spirituality doesn't. I just wish there is a meeting place where we can all just get along and love each other.

I agree, Beo. And I don't know that the meeting place will ever exist, because religion is of man and people confuse man's word and interpretation of writings as being divine and absolute. I have a great deal of faith...I just don't have that much faith in another human being to be infallible.

STATE governments do. Including tax systems. So, your claim that it is illegal for a same sex couple to be married is wrong

If marriage is simply a way for a couple to get government sanctioned benefits and rights, then love isn't even required for civil ceremonies. All the talk about preventing loving couples from sharing a life really isn't relevant. It's about the civil benefits that go with marriage.

Family arranged marriages, marriages for economic convenience, and green card marriages (among others) could be valid without any love involved at all.

Suppose there were no legal or financial benefits to marriage. Would it still be as sought after? :dunno:

You actually made a prior statement implying you have "magic" inside knowledge of God's most innermost thoughts.

By those who seek committment in themselves and others, yes.
But is it really anyone's business to question why a couple marries?
And those civil benefits that go with marraige make all marraiges civil unions, even those that are heterosexual.

Not all laws against criminal activity get enforced. Look at illegal immigration, for example. That doesn't mean they're no longer illegal.

And what does that have to do with the fact that there are states in which same sex marraige is not legal?

I didn't say that it was. I was just wondering how it would effect the push for same-sex marriages if there were no material or legal benefits involved. Is it really all about "love?"

Um... no. Man wrote the scriptures through the voice(s) of God or the gods. The problem with religions is that we have blind faith that the muse(s) is/are not corrupted. She's not speaking for God, she's just reminding people about man's nature.

It will not affect it at all. But it would certainly cut down on the number of opposite sex marraiges and increase the divorce rate at the same time.

Uh, all of it. They are attempting to revoke. But the fact of the matter is, if the religion of the chaplain allows for marraige ceremonies of same sex couples, the mitlitary cannot ban them from performing such at this point in time. And, you might be surprised at how many of those chaplains are actually far more humanitarian and loving than some of the parishioners I'm seeing.

So when Tidd, the man who issued the first memo changes course and says "suspended until further notice" that means nothing to you?

Um ... Jillio stated she knew with absolute certainty what God "thought" about this whole issue.

By "magic"?

No, jillio doesn't. But it seems there are many out there who do suffer under that delusion and preach it from a pulpit on Sundays.:cool2: And convince their congregation of the same.

Now, back to the topic, Steinhauer.

Yet, I'm not supposed to post anything in return when you use such inflammatory language.
