Not true!Chicago is miserable in summers too. geez 95 with 100% humidity. But a LOT to do there...
Not true!
Suggestions:
San Francisco
Sightseeing:
Fisherman Wharf
Alcatraz Island (famous prison), you may want to get an interpreter advance of time because they will give you audio and tells you the history inside the prison...since we are deaf, we cannot understand what audio will says...ugh...We are planning to go there next summer if we go West.
Great America (amusement park, a lot of FUN!)
Golden Gate Bridge (awesome sight)
SF Zoo
Santa Cruz board walk
there are so much to do...you may want to Google it.
Nevada:
Lake Tahoe/Truckee, CA
Reno/Sparks
Carson City (not too much to do, may not worth to go CC)
Las Vegas
Wyoming:
Yellow Stone national park
Washington:
Seattle
Colorado:
Grand Canyon
New York:
Rochester (visit us?)
Niagara falls
Not sure what else to do around here...NYC has tons to do and dunno if you wanna go back though.
Oh yea..in mid west, there are some awesome sight....
Mount Rushmore, Crazy hourse, and few others nearby.
I hope everyone will give you more ideas what you want to do and see.
Wrong state for Grand Canyon Should be Arizona instead of Colorado.
Utah:
Zion National Park
Bryce Canyon Park
If you want to visit any national park, I will give access pass card to you for free to enter.
How does that work?
When enter any national park's gate before visiting, ask ranger to require access pass card if you are disabled person. He/she requests your driver license to see proof of US citizenship. You can got it.
I do not recommend visiting the location especially national park that has 1-2 things to do because his time is short and it costs money. It's best to visit those place when Jake moves to America.
RIT + Niagara Fall is probably a very good idea to add to the list since there are several ADers around especially Canadians. Loghead, AliciaM, Buckets, Aghori, and Banjo are nearby (few of them are further up north). It has a deaf college targeted to engineering and science related fields... which is Jake's specialty so he'll have to decide which one to go for - Gally or RIT
Yes, some parks have audiograms and closed captioned for exhibiting TV programs.Oh, yeah, that....I have friends who did all that online so there is less hassle when they get to those national parks. Audiogram?
Sound good. Avoid summer time because reason of hot and high humidity. better be spring or fall.
Bats will bite him from Congress bridge.Austin is worth the heat. 6th street is one of the best parties around. The bats are pretty cool too. And there are plenty of places to cool off. One of the world's best water parks is close by. San Antonio is pretty cool too. Again Dallashas nothing except where JFK was shot.
- Thanks for the suggestions, LT! I will look into it.
- Jiro, I am not moving to America anytime soon, (I would love to though) but it is due to my full time job that I am sticking with for a little longer otherwise the only thing, I like America is the community and things to do which is more better than I get do to do in Canberra... not much social life - damn workaolics. Being a student at Gally is the best thing I would want but $35,000+ where can I find that money, need to research a lot though.
are you sure you can take all 4 weeks off at once? I have 4 weeks off too but I cannot exceed 2 weeks consecutively.- LT, I get 4 weeks annual leave per year if I keep few week from 2010, that builds ontop of my 4 weeks for 2011, you understand what I mean?
Ahh, you got the point - and yeah, I am planning to visit handful of major cities to give a feel of america - you know like I said, I love the deaf community there, it is so HUGE, it is not the same as I see in Australia.Yes I know you're not moving to America anytime soon but you only should visit those national landmarks WHEN you live here
other than that.... you should visit just major cities to get a feel of America at all four corners. and also do check out RIT since it's got a sizable deaf community & deaf school and it's more related to your field of work. Lot of graduates get hired by major firms like IBM. Its program rivals with RPI, VT and MIT.
It's best to finish your undergraduate degree in your hometown.... and then you can try to look for grad program anywhere you want. At least the cost will be lower than undergrad.
