It's Official

The mudroom was an eyesore to me, even that there is a contract on the house, I felt to finish it and make it more inviting, gives a warm welcome feel to the house when you enter instead of the cold feel from ugly concrete.

CARPET in a MUD ROOM??????????? I think you are going to have the prospective purchasers screaming and demanding it be taken out!!!! It was not there when they made their offer on the place. I think they are likely to agree with me that carpet is the last thing you want to try to keep clean in a MUD ROOM of all places.

Jeez. Mike may have been using it for a mud room, but that doesn't mean the new owners will use it for that. Stop being so critical of Mike's hard work. It's his house, not yours.

I don't think anyone would mind or CARE if there is carpet in the mudroom... Not many people use the mudroom as it's intended purpose anymore. As it is, you can either put down a 'throw rug' or at least a big mat AT the door to take off shoes etc. Some carpeting is MADE for withstanding heavy duty traffic so I don't see the problem.. it's not like it's fancy plush pile, 1,000 count whatever.

I have a friend in MA- her late sister and she lived in an older home which had a mud room, am going to ask what they did for flooring and what they think of carpeting. Mike may I borrow one of your pics to show her(it will be in a private group noone else will see it).

Yeah most people work at an office or business all day and don't spend a lot time working outside like people use to do. So they don't come home all muddy. There are heavy duty vacuum cleaners that can be used to clean the rug if get too dirty. I bet the buyer will love the rug. The rug will also keep people from slipping the floor if it raining out.
Concrete can get slippery when it wet.

With that window area, I'd probably make the room a nice sitting area. Maybe someplace to do reading, knitting, crocheting, etc.

I currently use it for my eating area, since it never became an actual mudroom, its just what I called it because I was going to tile it and install the washer/dryer there as its the main enterance to the house. Ah well, to each their own....lol

No Jiro, you dont actually keep mud in there...lmao

I know, Love Blue, I was going to mention that adorable bow window and window seat. I just love that, if I were looking at houses to buy that would have sold me. When I saw that I had it all fixed up cozy in my mind with cushions, pillows and quilts, and saw myself sitting there to read. Oh, and the carpet is a great idea!

Sorry Jane, your idea isn't going over at all.

I havent taken a picture yet, I covered the seating area and put my table to eat at in there currently. Looks very warm and inviting now, everyone whos seen it now love it, tomorrow is the inspection, I will let you know what the buyers say.

It isnt costing them anything, and if they dont like it... it takes all but 30 seconds to pull it out.. it is nothing permanent. My son even loved it seeing it the first time yesterday and just ran, jumped, rolled all over the carpet ( as the rest of the house is lamanent wood flooring...lol

I can picture some cats taking a sun bath on the window still and a big furry dog sleeping on the rug. :aw:

yea I know

The house I nearly bought before this one had a mudroom. I would have so loved having it, as I have dogs that carry so much dirt in that I might as well be storing mud in my house. The house was gorgeous, gorgeous bedrooms, bathrooms big big yard. However, it was over 100 years old and had a basement to prove it. We have a lot of people over to game and most of the men would have had difficulty standing fully upright in that basement so alas, we let the house go.

Nice job there.... I like how you match mudroom with UPS color..

I was so shocked at the idea of carpet in a mud room which I associate with an area with a lot of tracking in be it literally mud of other things from outside. It seems from the additional description to be an area that I would call an entryway or foyer for guests and not mainly for the junk that family tracks in.

I am sorry I didn't express it in a way that others understood my shock.

It's not that they didn't understand your shock, I think it was in the MANNER in how you expressed your shock that put off people.

I put the same question to some friends of mine- almost all of them also said in general tile is better for mudrooms not carpet (but they were nicer and calmer about it lol). Some of them are older than me by 10+ years and some grew up in the northeast as well.

Very odd inspection today. Only the inspector showed and spent 4 hours in the house. so now waiting on the approval or denial of the inspection... to seal the fate.
A picture of the Mud room finished....opps sorry, sitting room, reading room, observation bay....lol

Yes, and have a backup offer if this one falls through. But this should be it.
