In the event of a WiFi failure......

God I am so bad with computer terminolgy. When the kids and hubby all get together all I hear is BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH. I guess having a few computer geeks in the family has made me lazy in learning these things. If I hit the power button and it doesn't work, I call hubby or my kids. Hubby has a huge computer room here and one time my daughter asked me to go turn it on because she needed something......I hate to admit it, but it took awhile to find the power button. Yes my kids think it's funny!!!!

It's okay. You'll learn. There may be newer things today, but there are always those willing to teach you new stuff, myself included. I like to teach people new stuff. Heck, I've taught a few of my friends how to use a laptop VP in the last couple of years, and I have set up over 30+ laptop and mobile VP's since 2012. I am proud of the work I do, and will continue to do, as long as I am still around to do it.

I seriously need to get outside sometime soon.... the situation with the WiFi is driving me nuts, and like Reba said, one should've been good enough, but at least I have the common sense to know when to switch to another option.

It's always a good idea to have a couple of backup options at the ready if you need them.

You see, a couple of my housemates who live under the same roof as I do have told me they've had problems connecting to one of the WiFi's here, and they're not the only ones, either-- I've had a similar problem myself, with my phone and tablet refusing to connect, but the odd thing is, my laptop is connected to that same problem WiFi, and I've not yet had any problems with it, apart from my tablet and phone refusing to connect to it. I done checked a friend's iPad 2, and it showed the WiFi as "disabled", and my other friend's laptop was showing my private hotspot being connected to it, and my tablet also shows the WiFi as disabled, as does my phone.

Any advice? I should tell you that we have two AT&T WiFi's here, and one Comcast WiFi here, and one ClearSpot WiFi, and one Android AP WiFi (That one is on my phone), and another one that's not yet been tested out is Android AP on my tablet, and I'm not too keen on trying that one out.

Change the WIFI's channel numbers to avoid from interference. Did you know that using a neighbor's wireless access point without their know is a illegal?

Yes, I am aware of that. That is one of my suspicions. I'll need to bring that up this morning.

Good Grief!! This house has 7 laptops and tablets each. There are also 5 phones capable of using WiFi here, as well. That's way too much traffic.

Which one?

I actually have a few. Here they are:

Too little traffic handling, as this house can see up to 25 electronic devices on some days.

Someone is interfering with our wireless, but this is unlikely, because our Comcast box has a complicated password only a few people know of.

The wireless is 11 years old, and might not be compatible with today's technology.

There you have it.

*pondering a house full of mentally ill people, likely all on social security, all having laptops AND tablets* I'm off to go break stuff now.

Some of that stuff came free. The rest was paid for. Oh, and one person actually has a full-time job.

Wrong

Again, I said change the channel to avoid from the interference

There you have it.

Research again.

Which you aware of that?

Believe or not. Our house connect 7 WIFI at our devices and they running smooth for netflix and VP/FT.

I mean this.

Which you aware of that?

Only reason I know it's illegal I because I read a story somewhere where the FBI busted in a door, and accused an innocent person of being a pedo, when he in fact, wasn't. It was the next door neighbor who was, and he had locked the neighbor's WiFi from access, and that's how he got caught. I learned a valuable lesson from this story, and that's to make sure your wireless is always protected, and our common one isn't, and that concerns me greatly, because they did try and lock it before, but it blocked us from accessing it, so they wee forced to unlock it. That's why I never do my banking business with it-- I prefer my secured personal travel hotspot than that one.

Here's a picture of the router.

I don't talk about EACH router's WIFI. I talked about 7 WIFI devices connect to the single router.

We only have one common one. Three people have their own personal WiFi, but only I'm smart enough to use it. They prefer to use the problematic one and that's not my problem.

And this house has 19 devices capable of using WiFi. That's too many.

OK, bottom line.

Are you ever using the common unsecured (no password) WiFi? If so, why?
