But you sure as hell dont have to tell others that they made the wrong or right decision on getting a cochlear implant. So repect others who do get the cochlear implant. Perhaps I LOVE TO HEAR and therefore getting a cochlear implant was amazing for me. But I dont go bashing those who dont get an implant.

I'm proud to have CIs and go mainstream. I have the life I have now because of the choices I had made. And so have many others.

He is saying that with ASL, CIs arent needed. He didnt say that they were completely useless.

What's with all the defensiveness over a factual statement? It is true that with ASL, communication and language becomes fully accessible to deaf people which enables them not needing to use any hearing equipment.

I did have the harmony with the older AB implant but obviously I had to ship it back after it broke. My mother is in the field of medical so we have good health insurance which is why I was able to get it for pretty cheap.

I was able to have surgery quickly as I did not have to pay anything since AB was gladly to pay for my cochlear implant. Tell them that your AB implant broke and expect them to pay for your surgery for the new one. They will pay for everything. (got the bill last week, 100k all covered by AB, ohh yeahhhh)

You'd notice that ibn my thread, we talked about music a lot lol.

What if you have an unaidable or progressive loss? What if you like being a part of the hearing world? Look I totally get what you're saying....and I think ASL rocks, but its not a either/or thing!

Ingore these people who against CI. They want us to be mad and fight them. Best if we ingore them, eventually they will go away. :)
AB can do that for me? Even my oldest CI? Sweet!

Or they will die out. Did you know that back in the old days Deafies were anti HA? There's still anti CI sentiment.....but it has died down a LOT. Hell, many Deaf adults have CIs!

Yeah, just tell you about your situation, that your Advanced Bonics implant that you had implanted 14 years ago broke recently and going to have a surgery to replace it. Ask what they can do, and they will (or might, I was shocked to hear they'd pay for everything (including getting the implant from Cochlear America company))pay for the surgery and implant/processor.

As far as choosing companies consult with your surgeon and audi.

Ah I see. I will get my mom to read that to see if she can do about it. Do you know their numbers?

Just call the reps at advance Bionics that you usually call to get batteries, wires, ect. I'm sure your mom will know the number.
 
And Joey and Bbalboy, if you think anti CI sentiment is bad now, you should have seen it back in the old days! In the 90's and the early 00's it was really bad.
But as long as you're OK with ASL or go into learning ASL with a " I just didn't get to learn ASL as a kid" approach, generally you'll be accepted.
I do think the people who demonize CI as teh EVIL are a bit out of touch. Oralism was alive and well even before CI....remember Clarke School?

Poeple have different views on CI. Therefore people think it is good benfit or bad benfit for us. That's life. They think CI is bad. I think CI is wonderful tool. That how people view.
