Husband of pregnant woman wants her off life support

Shel, Get a living will. The tip is if you're on life support, you might want to talk to your family members, and make sure they can put a living will on the table next to you or give a medical professional a copy, or sign a DNR. I urge your family members keep reminding medical professionals to make sure they know your wishes. They have long difficult shifts. It's tough.

The mother was a paramedic. Her husband is a firefighter and a paramedic.

Well, welp. There is nothing to offensive about, but whatever. :|

Thank god, they're taking her off.

Another way to look at this. I mean way back at the begining of the thread we talked about the likelihood of the baby having severe birth defects. A woman has a choice when she discovers her baby might have severe birth defects, she can choose to abort or continue with the pregnancy. Keeping her on life support was actually taking that choice away from her. If the circumstances were different, she was healthy and discovered that the baby would be brain damaged or something, how do we know that she wouldn't have chosen to abort? Not that I'm saying she should, but that is a right for her, one they were taking away and should have been left up to the father, not the state.

And there's no way in hell I'd be paying the hospital bill for her to have been kept on life support all this time. No ****ing way, I'd be sending that on to the state, you wanted her life support, you did this against my wishes.....here's your bill.

Severe? No, the correct term should be extreme profound...Sorry,but I DO think that using the term severe to describe extreme profound issues (ie incompatible with life....ie anacephley, , holoproscencephly,Potter's Syndrome, profound brain injuiry leading to PVS etc) isn't accurate, as someone can have a 'severe" birth defect but still have a pretty good quality of life........

That was a very slanted article, you can tell even more so by following their sources. Like claiming that the doctors at the hospital were really hoping to deliver a healthy baby.......yet the hospital staff had not talked to them. I'm from this town, but I haven't followed this. My mom, my Mormon very very prolife mom, has though. I mentioned this to her early and she said the hospital was only doing what it was required by law to do. That's a a hop and a skip away from this being what they wanted to do.

Two glaring differences in this case and the one in your link.......the woman in the link died at the hospital, she received immediate life support. This woman in Texas they don't even know how long she unconscious and not breathing on her kitchen floor, meaning they don't know how long the baby was without oxygen......*brain damage!!!* also the baby in this case was eventually deemed not viable. Did you happen to read any of the sources in your link? Lots and lots of dead babies in utero.

No, I am pretty sure I am calm down, but your post do seem to yell at me... so, I back off and deleted it. The last time I checked, I posted only once here before my two previous posts...

I just checked a medical dictionary, and it is right there. None of the major organs in her poor body was working, the body just decay. It starts to smell death. The bones break down. Toxins are released from failing organs. Arteries walls break down as well.

The difference is you're alive, and this poor patient isn't.

Ok.

thank you. i stand corrected. can you pls cite the name of the dictionary, pg number,

or if online, a link?

thank you again

basically decomposing is not a medical term. i know how to break bones. its actually one of my specialties from a former life. as well as my current profession as a karate instructor. if you want to discuss breaking bones im all for that. but this is not the thread for it.

WooOOoOooooOoOoOooooooooow....

Nope, you're still wrong.

My best advice is ask a medical professional to correct you.

if she moriband as stated then i would thought impossible the baby still alive..they must have done viability test on baby if baby ok then big moral question if not then nature should take its course....we dont know all the facts to make judgement

I just noticed how many people complaint that Mr.Munoz shouldn't name his daughter because it's just 'clump of cells' or fetus. They also said it's not a child, so... thoughts, anybody?

I think it's his right to name his "non-baby" fetus if he want to. Which he already did.

Of course, he should be able to name the baby. He could have named the baby even if they hadn't continued the life support for his wife. I don't know why people have to complain about that.

Be careful with some articles because some of them can be make-up, misled or lies.

You can make compare with ABC News.
Texas Husband Named Brain-Dead Wife's Fetus - ABC News

It is very slim chance that baby will born alive from patients with brain dead, especially in early term, also her body will decompose and her organ eventually stop work, so effectively kill the baby.

Let not worry about Mrs. Smiley aka Ambrosia.

After read various articles, I'm annoyed by anti-abortion group played game with poor woman with brain dead and want to her to be on life support, even if fetus isn't viable. She will be decomposed and her organs will stop working if she is on life support for long period. It is sad to see that some people disputed the medical terms and they think that fetus can be perfectly, magically retrieve, and doesn't believe in doctor's claim.

Hospital: We think about pull the life support from woman.

Anti-abortion: No!

Hospital: The doctor declared that her fetus is not viable, or died. (23 weeks out of 40 weeks)

Anti-abortion: I don't believe you.

Hospital: That's fine and she will stay on life support until you make final judgment.

Anti-abortion: Great!!!

17 weeks later... (40 weeks out of 40 weeks)

Hospital: The fetus is not viable and not grown. (or baby came as died at birth)

Anti-abortion: No, that's not true and we believe that fetus (or baby) is alive.

Hospital: Woman's organs stopped work and her body is decomposed.

Anti-abortion: but her baby is alive.

Hospital: Fine, let show you a baby or fetus. *point at room*

Anti-abortion: What??? Baby already died, so tried to wake the baby up but no wake up and heart didn't work. *stunned*

Hospital: We told you so but you chose to play game with woman.

Anti-abortion: Sad, depressed and left hospital.

Oh yes, there's nothing like those idiots that come in the hospital telling you that you ( A doctor or medical professional who has MANY years of schooling and practice ) has no idea what you're talking about... That's my favorite... Idiots...

Well the reason that happens is b/c a prolifer sees the term "severe" and they automaticly think that means "still has a quality of life"...That's why docs should use the term extreme profound....

how am i still wrong if i admit in the above post that i stand corrected?

you say you checked a dictionary why oh why would any one refuse to cite the actual entry they claimed to have checked?
interesting, theres a couple of reasons for that i'm sure, ill give you the benefit of the doubt though

since i agreed with you in my above post, and you still claim i am wrong does that mean you are wrong too?
or can i agree with you and still be wrong yet you somehow still be right?
again very interesting
