Husband of pregnant woman wants her off life support

I am pretty sure the baby's wishes should be honored too - and I am fairly certain it wants to live.

The dad said he does not know how long the baby been with out oxygen and nutrients , there is a chance the baby brain been harmed by what happen to the mother. And you do not know if the baby want to live.

allot of "ifs" here.
what we do know is the baby is alive, and is living.
as for being brain damaged ect, lest we forget how easy it is for hearing people to wish to preclude deafness in the world......
fill in the rest

Regardless if the baby is brain dead or has some kind of disability or is fine even! Since she is unable to verbalize her decisions, legally her husband makes those decisions for her. If I am put on life support, my mother would make decisions for me. Therefore, his decision should stand... period. I know most people don't want to live on life support. If that baby comes out brain dead or god knows what... HE has to take care of that baby, none of us. That's a lot of time, work, patience and money. Maybe he doesn't HAVE all the money it would take to support that child! Again, it should be his choice. Period.

Hopefully there is more to this story then we actually know. There needs to be an amnio done, ultrasound and other tests on this baby. If the medical staff can confirm the baby is growing and thriving, brain included, then yes give the baby a chance. This is a terrible situation for the husband and family. Seeing his wife every day pregnant but she is dead. OMG so, so sad.

Doesn't matter. The baby has a right to live. It is the law.

Nope. The baby has a right to live. Thank God there is a law to protect that right.

O I C just like how when the "law" used to consider the deaf non persons in certain countries.
mmmmm

can they find out in utero if the baby suffered any brain damage?

should the baby be killed if it did? if your gonna kill it for brain damage why not for deafness?
the hearing world wont make that distinction if left to its own devices
given history

Don't know, but with today's technology, they may be able to. My daughter's baby had a heart ultrasound done in utero to see if he had the same heart defect his dad had/has. He didn't, but if he had, they would have been prepared to deal with it when he was born.

Your words, not mine.

Yea, so the dad can be better prepared with the right care for the baby.

it was a question. which you didn't answer. Its the ramifications of peoples thought processes and ideas that matter not my words.
If we so easily demote human beings to non persons, well history particularity for US deaf has valuable lessons in store, further my opinion since what its worth is i do not believe we as a society should be murdering babies if they are brain damaged or deaf, or blind, or any other disability, or to save loot.
i know i must be behind the times ack
those are my words yes.

U said "if your gonna kill it for brain damage why not for deafness?"

It came off as you were implying that what I was thinking when I posted that question.

I think he was just using the generic "you", not referring to you Shel.

I have libertarian view when deal with reproductive, abortion and medical decision.

If women want abortion for any reasons so it is her and her family to make a best decision so government shouldn't involved. For me, I personally don't want my woman to have abortion but there are unknown events could happen, such as life threatening, birth defect or rape so if my woman wants to have abortion because of those reason so I will support her decision.

For government, I only support them to regulate the safety and health code, based on recommended studies by universities, not ridiculous method, such as permit from hospital, convert the abortion clinic into hospital style center and other methods that have no benefits or not supported by research or studies.

If women want abortion because their baby may have disability, including deafness, blindness, down syndrome, etc so it is not government nor my decision, so women and her families should make a best decision, not mine. It is indeed sad to see disabled babies got aborted but it is not my decision nor government to tell women to keep.

For this thread, I think doctor needs to perform more tests to find if fetus is alive or not. If fetus is dead so I believe in family's decision to pull the life support, especially her husband and woman's mother want to pull the life support. I don't believe that government, especially law needs to be involved. I found that her husband could to get injection (court) to pull the life support - see Blaze's article below.

Husband Wants to Take Pregnant, Brain Dead Wife Off Life Support

My DSL internet was down for 2 days so I didn't post so much, that why.

That's OK; you're not required to maintain a posting quota. :giggle:

Yes, I know that.

Some members may wonder why I didn't post so much because this topic made me very interest to discuss.

It is no fun to post on my iPhone - small screen, a lot of zoom and not easy access to multitasking.
