I feel so sorry for Haiti....they were hit by 4 storms lately..Fay, Gustav, Hanna and then Ike's wind and rain. Cuba is still recovering from Gustav's destruction. Gee.

I heard it was they deforested to make charcoal as fuel because every one so poor and only method for them. There is quite a severe problem with this as well in central aftrica around and east of republic or congo.

I hope the path of Ike stays all over Cuba so the land will tear up the hurricane and weaken it. Who knows how much it will restrengthen afterwards. Cuba kind of saved our bacon with Gustav; it was 150 mph and after path over western Cuba, it never got reorganized to that degree that it was when it hit cuba. That was a blessing for the levies and inland canals for southeastern La. It significantly lowered the already high storm surge, but it could have been worse, much worse.
