How Do You Feel Today?

Jiro,

That's why I'm surfing AD. It's kind of hard to keep your mind off of pain that hurts like hell. :mad2:

for that - i play game or watch movie/tv. the best way to keep my mind off it. right now - i'm youtubing motorcycle-related and soon I will read an article about Somalia pirates.

FYI - there will be a documentary show in discovery channel called - Somalia Pirate Takedown on Sunday 10PM EST. It's about 4-days Somali pirate siege - the one where Navy SEAL made a sniper kill that freed Captain Richard Phillips

:ty: Jiro. <group hug>

I just took one of my meds to relax me, so hopefully that will help get my mind off of the pain.

Geez. I can be a big baby when I don't feel well. Sorry to whine and complain. I didn't mean to monopolize this thread. I know shel isn't feeling well either and I know deafbajagirl was sick too. I hope they both feel better soon. to them both and anyone else who I've forgotten about.

monopolize? nah. i think you, me, and overthepond are the only one up at this ungodly hour :laugh2:

the reason why i'm up right now is because I slept right after work (about 4PM) until 2AM. I was completely knocked out and sick. Now I'm feeling :cool2:

That documentary sounds really interesting. :ty: for mentioning it. Discovery has alot of great documentaries.

Right now I'm playing 80s music on one of the digital music channels on cable.

Before I came onto AD, I was watching this week's episode of Mental on hulu.com

now i'm watching MENTAL. hmmm... this female actress is hot. Wow this is an interesting show. I'm watching Season 1, Episode 4 - Manic At the Disco

For those who doesn't know what's this show is about -
MENTAL is a medical mystery drama featuring Dr. Jack Gallagher, a radically unorthodox psychiatrist who becomes Director of Mental Health Services at a Los Angeles hospital where he takes on patients battling unknown, misunderstood and often misdiagnosed psychiatric conditions. Gallagher delves inside their minds to gain a true understanding of who his patients are, allowing him to uncover what might be the key to their long-term recovery.

I'm sorry you weren't feeling well Jiro  but am glad you're doing better now. :cool2:

I think you're right about you, me and Charlotte being the only ones who are up at this time of the night.

I was planning to go to bed at 10 until this pain started.

However, my med is starting to take effect and I feel calmer now. The pain doesn't seem as intense either probably because I'm not as wound up as I was before.

Jiro,

I saw that episode (Manic at the Disco) and it was the best episode so far. I won't spoil the plot for anyone who wants to watch it, but the program this week was quite good! The show is very unrealistic in many respects, but I'm glad to see that they are putting mental illness into the mainstream to help increase public awareness.

(Sorry. I don't want to turn this into a mental illness thread, but I was watching Mental before I logged on.)

Jiro,

I'm :laugh2: at your comment about Nora. (She's the hottie on Mental) We were discussing the same thing on a bipolar message board. All the guys were drooling because of how hot she looks. :laugh2: Dr. Jack isn't difficult to look at either from what I've been told. :giggle:

Well I'm going to call it a night. My med has reached its' full effect and I'm tired. Have a good night Jiro and Charlotte. Until later today...

very unrealistic? dang..... but it's good thing that you warned us that otherwise I would have thought it's "close enough" to real thing

Jiro,

Just thought I'd check this thread before going to bed.

The treatments Dr. Jack uses are non-traditional and are not practiced by psychiatrists today.

For example, in the first episode, he told a schizophrenic patient of his that it was okay to discontinue his antipsychotic even though this med is the only kind of treatment approved by the FDA to relieve auditory hallucinations. Dr. Jack also broke into the home of that patient's family in order to learn more about him. What kind of a psychiatrist in real life would do that?

The one thing I did like about this week's episode was that Dr. Jack indicated that the 8 year old boy who had bipolar would require medication, but that it may take some time for them to work. Another co-actor (whose name I can't remember at the moment) also listed Depakote, Risperdal and Lithium as possible meds for treating bipolar which is true. All 3 of those meds are the primary ones that are used to treat this disorder.

I forgot to mention that in episode one, Dr. Jack thought he could calm his schizophrenic patient by removing all of his clothes. :laugh2:

Dr. Jack is similar to Dr. House which is probably why they dub Mental as being the "House of Psychiatry."

I almost forgot...in episode one, they also had a scene where all of the patients were outside listening to a live band and having a party. No psych hospital I've been to has ever done that. If one exists, I'd like to know where it is! :laugh2:

Good night to you and Jiro... get some sleep. My day had started! (it's 10 am here! LOL!!)

Sleep well.

I just finished watching episode 1. I find this show very interesting! I did notice that his method is.... very unconventional. I'm enjoying it as I am an unconventional person as well (to some degree).

I think the fact that the show is so unconventional is why I love it so much. I find it intriguing. Normally I HATE it when shows distort reality, but in this case, I'm amused by the things I see on the show and I give the producers the benefit of the doubt because at least they are trying to get mental illness out into the open. Even if people believe what they see on Mental, at least it increases public awareness. Oh, I almost forgot something else. In episode two, a patient was diagnosed as having "Cat Hoarding Disorder." :laugh2:

now I'm on episode 2. just started it. Cat Hoarding Disorder? eck......

Jiro,

Check out episode 3 if you have time. You can watch them 24 hours later on hulu.com. I watched episode 3 for the second time earlier today because I enjoyed it so much. I also thought it was very creative how the writers claimed the boy in that episode used to "see" and play video games in his head. What's interesting about that is people with bipolar are known to be highly creative and intelligent. If that ever happened in real life, it wouldn't surprise me. I thought it was a great way to link bipolar and creativity together. IMO, the writers on Mental and House are brilliant!

Another hilarious falsity of the show is how much time Dr. Jack spends with his patients. I wish my psychiatrist spent that much time with me! :laugh2: If someone is lucky, they'll see their pdoc for 15 minutes. If they're *very* lucky like me, they'll see them for 30-45 minutes.
