I don't think she understand about what House MD is actual about. I can tell that show isn't her favorite TV series.
It WAS my favorite show...up UNTIL today.

Ugh...found it less than positive.
Putting the CI without permission? They just happen to have a $10,000 device "laying around"?? And why would Chase know how to do an implant?
Activating within MINUTES of surgery?? And doing it while he is a sleep? Are you kidding me?
He can now magically understand speech with no rehab? Lovely.
And last and perhaps worst....Riping out his CI because he was SO against it?? Come on!
You can bet your ass I was VERY EXTREMELY OFFENDED!
This episode was pretty much downhill from the very start.
You should have seen me. I was swearing at the TV.
I'm pretty angry.
It's entertainment. Nothing new.
I think its funny how the boy got activated in like an hour after surgery.
I am a very loyal House watcher...until now. But what he did...I know it's just a show...but it has put CIs in a very negative spotlight, much more negative than ever before. I mean, how many people watches the show? Millions. And what are they going to think? I know it isn't the first time the CIs has been put in a negative spotlight by a show, but this show is by far the most negative one surrounding CIs. I mean, if it was in actual real life and if I was THAT patient I would most definitely feel VIOLATED and I would SUE House AND the hospital for EVERYTHING House and the hospital has because it would most definitely violate all kinds of ethical regulations as well as medical regulations that ever existed. The patient may be under 18 but he is 14, most definitely old enough for the patient to make his own decision regarding CIs, and he already had asked that his hearing loss be left alone, but House went ahead and implanted him without anyone's permission, especially the mother's in the first place! House never even had the mother's permission in the first place!

What I see from your link is he has an uncredited role. Is that correct? That doesn't seem like he is the star.
From what I seen that when deaf do in ASL, and it doesn't provide in subtitle 100% on what they saying toward hearing. Such as... "Trust me" being cut in begin scene.
And the black girl on her first visit in hospital and sign to guy without subtitle. It talk about homecoming stuff in brief, such a pointless communicate
From my personal plot synopsis, I think House doesn't have much respect for the deaf culture. I don't really blame him (tbh) but his actions told me that he has no respect for the culture obviously since he thinks Seth needs a CI.
Poweron and a few others are right; this isn't the first time he's recklessly done something. He does this in just every other episode.. Something against the patient's wishes.
It doesn't make us any better because we understand deafness much better than the writers (Laurie doesn't even get to pool his own opinion on it).
One thing tho: It appeared Chase did the surgery, but we never saw it.. Only assumed he did it since he's the surgeon and House asked him to. But if you've ever noticed, they don't often have consults and professionals in another area of expertise on house. In almost all episodes, the only doctor from another hospital was Chase's dad, and a few episodes back for the african american lady who was an ex-doctor.
So, seeing how this trend works I didn't expect them to be "perfectly accurate" on the CI part.
What I wanted to see with everyone is that we now all know that House's Character (HOUSE, as in GREGORY HOUSE alone on a TV series) is a pro-hearing world person. He sees deafness as inhibiting, and did not respect their culture obviously. Given what you saw yesterday, if House was a real person, would you still have that admiration and 'friendship' you had with him prior to episode 22? (Last night's).
What *I* didn't like, is that House stated his reason for implanting the kid against his will, was that he was "opting into a handicap". WTF???? IME, D/deaf people do not see themselves as "handicapped", and I thought the statement was extremely denigrating to all the people who have fought to get where they are today.
Lucia, it seems like you don't actually watch House... he risks almost every patient's life on a whim. He does whatever the hell he wants to do. It only touched a nerve now because YOU have the CI. But maybe there is a pregnant young woman out there who is yelling at the show because it showed that a pregnant young woman would rather save herself than her baby. They'd be yelling out "THEY ARE PUTTING PREGNANT TEENAGERS IN A NEGATIVE LIGHT!"
I mean House has even "killed" some people purposefully to make them clinically dead for a few minutes "to check something"!!!! And you're upset about House not getting permission? Yea.. I don't think you watch House, sorry!
She does watch the show religiously. She's just upset, but she also saw where things were going 10 mins into the program. If it bothered her that much, she could have opted to watch another program instead of allow it to inflame her.
Ah well.
My thoughts on the whole thing is this... Hollywood has a dismal track record for portraying all differences in a negative light. I don't much care for how people in wheelchairs are portrayed, but I'm not out the change the world. I highly doubt ONE show is going to have that much impact on society. But, I will say this.. The overall tone of the show reflects a deep audist atitude. I think if anything, this show is indicative of the work that still needs to be done in educating people regarding deaf people.
