And this could of been stopped how? They were all asleep, so a gun, shotgun, rifle, assault weapon, uzi would have done them no good. Moral of story is don't leave baseball bats lying around the yard and don't sleep on the porch and obviously don't sleep so soundly.

huh? you missed the point once again...

I didn't say every intruder. I know a lot of cops and most rely on shotguns for self defense in their home and that is because in close proximity it's hard to miss with one. You people have got to realize that these video games are just that video games, we don't have or at least where I live we don't have home invasions all the time and if someone comes in give them what they want and let them leave, risking your life is not worth it.

yea who knows.

notice that the shooters were lunatic... had history of mental illness... failed to receive professional help... laws failing or lack of laws to prohibit them from owning guns

Sandy Hook Shooter had a serious mental illness and the mother was incredibly stupid for sheltering him away from professional helps.

notice that our laws prohibited people with mental illness from having firearms but that only works if they were involuntarily committed to mental hospitals. This shows that we still need to work on tightening up laws regarding mental illness.

And how do you keep them from going out and shooting people, you don't think access to guns is to readily available to these people. Sandy Hook, Columbine, the movie theater in Co., and I could go on and on, these guns aren't making us safer , just making it easier for those to kill in greater numbers.

Dude,

I have said nothing about taking your guns away! Just getting rid of the assault weapons and not letting a child shoot a gun until they are around 15 years old.
If Jiro owns an "assault weapon" and you want to get rid of them, then you are taking away his gun.

"Around" 15 years old is kind of vague for establishing a law, or do you mean parents not letting a child shoot a gun?

the question is.... how do we keep lunatic people out of guns without infringing upon patients' right to privacy and without becoming a Thought Police?

do you realize that only few states actually go out to grocery to buy meat? that "few" states are the one with major cities - disillusioned and disconnected from the reality. the saddest part? they throw away such wasteful amount of food. what a tragedy.

many states hunt to eat and make their own stuff... and many states defend themselves because 911 would take over 30 minutes to get to you.

Here it is.

my shotgun and handgun (banned in California) are both tactical models. does that make it "assault weapon"?

Ok and how do those not pertain to free speech? They only let you proclaim it. Please come up with an argument that shows where in the 2nd amendment it says you can own a semi automatic assault rifle with a 50 round clip or teach a child to shoot a gun?
Where does it say you cannot?

The Founding Fathers left it at "arms" so it would not be too specific or exclusionary.

I'm not saying guns should be outlawed, just the ones that have no place in society such as assault weapons or machine guns.
Having "no place in society" is just your personal opinion since there is no classification for guns like that. Since "assault weapons" and machine guns that are not fully automatic are currently legal to own, by outlawing them you would indeed be taking away guns from citizens.

Kids getting maimed on shooting ranges has nothing to do with gun rights . It has to do with using common sense and good judgment . No one was using this when his tragic accident happen . About 3 kids had drowned in pools this summer should there be a ban on pools too ? Why should responsible gun owners lose their rights b/c of people that do not know how to use their brain when it come to owning and using a gun? If we where to follow your logic there should be a ban on anything that can kill or maim people. If there is a ban on guns this will only increase the crime rate , people will looking on the black market for guns and drug lords own the black market.

Over 7,000 children are hospitalized or killed due to gun violence every year, according to a new study published in the medical journal Pediatrics. An additional 3,000 children die from gun injuries before making it to the hospital, bringing the total number of injured or killed adolescents to 10,000 each year.

The new study, led by researchers at the Yale School of Medicine, highlights the toll gun violence has on child mortality rates in the country. Doctors surveyed the most recently released data from 2009 that tracked pediatric hospital stays.

“This study reinforces what we know from the mortality data,” Daniel Webster, the director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research, told NBC News. “We have an extraordinary health burden in our youth associated with firearms injuries.”

In the 2009 Kids’ Inpatient Database (KID), 7,391 children under the age of 20 had been hospitalized for injuries from firearms and the majority of those gunshot injuries —4,559—resulted from intentional firearm assaults. 2,149 of those injured were accidents, and 270 were suicide attempts. Of the children who were hospitalized, 453 – 6% – died from their injuries.

A lot more than 3 kids have drowned in pools this summer. Yes, it all has to do with having common sense and in this case knowing where your child is and keeping an eye on him/her at all times while playing at the pool.

Every day, about ten people die from unintentional drowning. Of these, two are children aged 14 or younger. Drowning ranks fifth among the leading causes of unintentional injury death in the United States.1
So if you do the math 2 x 365= 730 children die in the US each year which is about 1/7th or 14% of the total number of those children killed by firearms each year.

I'm not saying you need to lose your rights, I am just saying kids should not be allowed to shot guns until they are at least 14 or 15 years old.

uh... they didn't die from playing around with guns. they died from "intentional firearm assaults".

Just the ones that can kill great numbers in a short amount of time. Try arguing your point with one of the parents who's child was killed in one of the many massacres that have happened in the US in the last 10-15 years.

"You people?"

I have no idea what you mean about video games--I don't play them.

We don't have home invasions all the time either but we have them too often to ignore. Most of the time, a home invasion is not about simple burglary. Sometimes they want drugs or money that the homeowners don't have. How can they just give them what they want if they don't have it? Usually the home invaders' goal is to kidnap, sexually assault, beat up, terrorize, or kill the homes' occupants. Would you just give in and hope for the best?

uh... they didn't die from playing around with guns. they died from "intentional firearm assaults".

Only a portion of them, it looks like at least 2,149 of them died from gun accidents. Maybe they weren't trained correctly or maybe they don't have the capability to understand how dangerous a firearm can be.

how? machine gun is illegal to own..... and even Boston Marathon Bombers didn't kill great numbers in a short time...

how many is "great numbers"?
how long is "a short amount of time"?

Try arguing your point with one of the parents who's child was killed in one of the many massacres that have happened in the US in the last 10-15 years.
and they should try argue their points with one of the parents whose sons was killed defending this country and the Constitution.

so few.... so so so few... way less than deaths from Happy Meal toys and abusive parents.

btw - are you going to continue to refuse to answer my questions above?

The mother was trying to get her son locked up and if I am correct I think she had wait for the court date to get him committed to a mental hospital. The court system needs to move faster on these kind of cases where a person show he a risk to other people . And some people with mental illness will stay below the radar and never show it . It's not that easy to get someone locked up involuntarily if they did nothing wrong you can't arrest a people for what they're thinking .

Unfortunately his mother taught him to shoot from an early age and it came back to bite her didn't it! Oh, I forgot she wasn't using good judgement, she taught a crazy kid to shoot a gun and then forgot to lock up all her guns in the house. Her actions caused her death and the deaths of 26 other innocent victims of her stupidity.

Apparently, children are age 14 and under when counting drownings but they are up to age 20 years when counting shootings.

Did the numbers indicate which of those shooting victims were involved in gang activities, robberies, and other dangerous illegal pursuits?

forgot to lock up all her guns in the house? where did it say that?
