TXgolfer, what's your problem? I read most of your posts and you sounded like "Hey, Congress, Gally doesn't deserve my $2 tax because Gally is bad."

I doubt it but that's ok. not exactly something that a regular Joe the Plumber can understand in a matter of weeks. if you're an accountant, I'd understand but do keep learning more... you'll find something a lot more how it works.

there are things like grants, donations, tuition revenues, endowment income, state and local appropriations, fees, investment returns, etc.

So, just to be clear, you are saying that construction and renovation of dorms is not included in budget requests, right?

I was asking Foxrac if I was understanding HIS post correctly.

The cost of construction and renovation of dorms are included in budget plan because it is required by law to state all projects on budget plan, regardless if they don't use federal funding, so they do have non-federal resources.

Wow, that's expensive! For $1,490 per month here you can rent a 4-bedroom, 3-bath house with a 2-car garage, 2,400 sq. ft, and still have money left over.

Do you at least get amenities with that fee, such as indoor pool, gym, and tennis courts?

Jiro is correct about they are part of student fee, not from room and board.

It must be hard. Room and board plus tuition and fees. I don't know how they do it. That's a lot more money than I make, even if I paid 100% of my income for school expenses. Maybe their parents saved up for college since their children were babies? :dunno:

Can a college student really earn that much per month while attending school?

There are scholarship, student loan, federal/state grant, VR, federal-study work program and other resources to cover the college expenses.

The college is just expensive and painful.

How much does FAFSA money cover?

TCS and I filled out FAFSA and we aren't eligible for any help, so I don't know how much it would be for those who are eligible.

I know that there are other colleges that charge more than Gally but there are also those that charge less. But for students who want to attend a college for the Deaf, they don't have all those options.

I do have a friend who attends Boston U. She is a disabled veteran, so she gets VA benefits for tuition and a disability pension to live on. It's not a lot but she's single and frugal.

I'm fully eligible for full FAFSA, so it is depending on income, but it isn't enough to cover A to Z if you depend on pell grant.

but... my mother didn't because she made too much income.

Some receive SSDI and/or SSI. Then there is financial aid.

Then the students aren't getting much for their money. :(

I hope they at least eat their money's worth.

I read in one of the budget requests that avg aid for those that are eligible is over $18,000

Not all are from Pell Grant because their max is $5,550 per year, so federal loan isn't free money because you have to pay back and they do have cap too.

Most of my Gallaudet expenses covered by scholarship, though.

No one mentioned Pell Grant specifically. Aid packages come from several different sources....still financial aid.

Covered under scholarship? You sure about that? What kind of scholarship? Paid for by?
