doctors cannot ask about guns

My priority is both and the laws. I do not believe in bending over laws in the name of safety. Guns protect children too from kidnappers, robbers, intruders, or animals.

I see that you have been unable to give me any scenario to how doctors come up with a reason to ask about gun possession as out of concern for child's safety.
The same way they ask if there are smokers in the house. It's a standard question. Asked of everyone they see.

Paranoia. Like I said, guns are your priority, children are mine.

again - both is my priority. and law is my utmost priority.

I see that you continue to fail to provide any scenarios in order for me to understand how doctors come up with a reason to ask about gun possession as out of concern for child's safety.

Yeah, gun law.

what's next? pediatricians asking us how we drive in order to promote discussion of driver safety around children with parents who own cars?

Yes, the parents will need to be constantly reminded that the 10 o'clock, 2 o'clock position is necessary and important to the child's safety.

If doctor asked if there are smokers in the house, then it's obviously because patient is suffering from a certain condition.

Now.... if doctor asked if there is gun in the house... what would make him ask about that?

Look like it happened in the UK and that it was a foreign doctor. I bet there's more to the story than they let on.

You know what? If a ten day old infant has suffered a fall leading to a bump on the head, the home environment needs to be investigated. It isn't like a 10 day old infant is walking around and fell.:cool2:

Would it be a problem if the doctor asked them if there is a light bulb in the house?

Wrong. It is a standard question asked by pediatricians.

A 10 day old baby suffered a fall at home leading to a bump on their head and requiring examination by a medical professional. No.....nothing wrong there.

You don't see anything wrong with doctor accusing parent of child abuse?

It was probably how the mother reacted that prompted the doctor to question the child's health and safety.

They routinely ask about the use of child restraint devices. I guess we shouldn't ask about that either, despite the fact that proper use of these devices has been shown to lower injury and death.

Accusation is a serious business. When gun is involved, it's much more serious. A very very expensive legal mess just to clear your name. And the worst part is.... this incident will be permanently imprinted in your record.

again - tell us, not ask us. give us a pamphlet.

I can't see that many doctors would not refer a 10 day old infant who fell from a distance long enough to cause a visable swollen place on their head that would not report the incident to children's services. The doctor doesn't decide whether abuse occurs or not. They have no say in whether the child is removed from the home. They just say, "Hey, I just treated a 10 day old infant with a bump on the head and the mother says the infant fell. You might want to check out the safety of the environment." Social services decides whether there is cause to investigate.

But a 10 day old infant that has fallen doesn't concern you? A 10 day old infant can't even roll over yet, Jiro. How the hell does one fall?

Duh. That is the reason the pediatricians are asking the question: to promote discussions of gun safety around children with parents who own guns.
Agree. I'd rather they not spend the extra time educating everyone ... the wait time to see a doctor is long enough.

again - tell us, not ask us. give us a pamphlet.

Then you would complain that doctors were assuming that you didn't use proper precaution because they gave you a pamplet.

Okay. Want to talk about Second Amendment? What about the First Amendment? Is it a violation of free speech to talk to your children in a certain manner? Do we need to defend the notion of free speech to the extreme so we won't get falsely accused of child abuse?

Seriously, how is being asked if you own a gun or not a violation of the right to bear arms?

I think it's now the 8 o'clock and 4 o'clock positions now because of the airbags.

No, they ask about smokers regardless of the child's health. It's a routine question. They usually have a paper with the routine questions to ask and they check them off (yes/no/...) as they ask them.
