doctors cannot ask about guns

You must be loosing excessive sleep. That post doesn't have a single word attributed to explaining how a pediatrician can go about determining a child's risk for being injured or killed by a gun in the home if he doesn't ask the question, "Do you have a gun in the home."

Do you understand what determining risk is? Or why it is important

No I do not understand why is it important to ask such question and why gun is being "singled out" when there are other factors like pool and abusive parents that kill children much more than guns and pitbull dogs combined.

I see that you automatically conclude that anybody as delusional or paranoid or "funny in the head" if anybody doesn't understand or agree with your case.

Anyway - it is no different from pediatrician asking questions and being concerned about your deaf son. and that pediatrician may report you to social worker that you may be neglecting your son's well-being by refusing to consider cochlear implant or see an expert in this matter.

During a physical examination in April 2000, as part of obtaining a "medical history," the doctor asked the patient:

* Do you have any guns?

* If so, how many guns do you have?

* Where are they located?

* Where do you store the guns?

* How much ammunition do you keep?

Is Your Doctor A Spy?

Medical necessity?

Doctors DO ask about pets. They DO ask if they have a pool. They DO check the kids for any sign of mental or physical abuses. Why are guns the untouchable?

That is it in a nutshell. You don't understand because you are too focused on something that has virtually nothing to do with the topic. Take your blinders off. And, answer my question.

You and Reba appear to be the only ones. Everyone else thinks it is nonsense.

Can you kindly point out exactly which post where we said we're in support of law that fines doctors for asking about gun possession?

I can't even find mine! But I did find a number of posts where I said that this law was unnecessary. Please do feel free to locate a post that says otherwise about my position in this law.

what question was it?

So, then you think that this law that fines doctors for asking patients if they have guns is ridiculous and should not be passed?

If it's unnecessary, why defend it?

Look back in the very beginning and you will find a very crystal-clear position of mine in this issue.... in layman's term.

You will find Reba's stance in this issue too there.

Maybe because there is no Constitutional right to own pets or pools?

I didn't defend it. It was ALSO unnecessary for doctors to ask about gun possessions just as much as it was unnecessary to enact law that fines doctors for asking about it.

Instead..... why not tell us instead of asking us? I believe that is a perfect solution that we all can agree with. No need to put a mark on file like elementary teachers and their red pens :)

Just came from there. You are both saying that doctors should not be allowed to ask about gun ownership as part of a standard social history questionaire.

Exactly. Implies support.

no wonder Brady Campaign has been losing for past several years. We don't imply. We state our case with clarity and logic... not implication or hyperbole.
