Do you have a contingency plan?

^^^ Yep, during aftermath of Katrina in New Orleans, Mexican government has sent the several of Mexican soldiers and its APCs to New Orleans to help out as well as the United States government are still helping the Mexican government and military with our intelligence to combat against the drug cartels. It's all about help each other.

Wow I did not realize this.....Ofc I had no TV or newspaper most of that year so maybe that is why

I had a friend who lost his house in New Orleans. I helped him get his things almost a year after the hurricane. His uncle was a New Orleans Firefighter and assisted. When I went, there were boats on top of buildings and the place still looked like a war zone as well as a ghost town. We stopped and talked to a police officer about it, he told us over 200,000 homes had to be destroyed because of black mold was growing everywhere.

It just had me thinking, what if something like Katrina had happened nationwide ??? Or even continent wide???

The people in the worst parts of New Orleans were rescued because they had left. If something such as an EMP were to hit, or severe solar storm, the effected area would be so large that you would not be able to just get up and leave.

Just playing devil's advocate :cool2:

The disasters mentioned in the above posts are good examples of what happens to small localized catastrophes. But what if the catastrophe is not small nor localized?

I am sure the National Guard would be deployed to worst effected areas with the highest population. But ... would they react the same way as New Orleans?

There has been a lot of discussion on this and it has been very insightful ... thanks for all the feedback. :aw:

Yes, a lot of Mexican citizens helped with the rescue effort, a large number of boats are/were scattered throughout New Orleans. When I went, I even saw a very large vessel sitting on its side underneath a bridge an hour away from New Orleans (and it was a year after Katrina).

Im not tooooo worried about an EMP attack... as much I am worried about Yellowstone bursting.

Hey Boo Boo....Where's the pic-a-nic basket

Blown to smithereens Yogi

Wait....that's Jellystone

Nation-wide? plenty in south-eastern area.... the hurricane-prone zone. As TXGolfer said - Florida is pro at it. and the huge multi-states forest fire last year. no problem.

if it happened continent wide, it's the end of world because the only way to do that is if the asteroid hits us.

The disasters mentioned in my post are definitely not a small localized catastrophes. An example of "small localized catastrophes" would be a flash flood or a landslide limited to a town.

I am sure the National Guard would be deployed to worst effected areas with the highest population. But ... would they react the same way as New Orleans?

if you want to understand the behaviors and such... just look at Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Indonesia, etc. Take a very good look at countries that got hit by tsunamis last year or so. The country may be different but the human behaviors and actions are exactly same all around the world.

I didnt reply in this thread because... it seems the OP wants to push the "end of the world" scenario... and asking us how to live. If it was truly end of mankind... What is the point of asking us how to live.

First; in an EMP attack --
I'll just stay home. My computer/tv might be fried, ah well. But at this time, I have a month supply of food ready. By then, things will be stabilized enough for me to take care of other things.

Even the police couldn't stop a running car using EMP. If they could, they would have already utilized it to stop a runaway car decades ago.

I looked at your "GOOD" Kit.... And I would have to put a big fat fail on it. No questions. Have fun surviving.

(For one: it doesn't even have a trash bag in it.)

Tarp, flint, rain gear, waterproof boots, thermal sleeper. extra socks, gloves, multi tool. sunscreen. bear spray (mountains). toothpaste. condoms (its may be the end of the world but then again what if it's not) and sunglasses

If it's near the end of world, need to breed, so why need condoms?

but I'd take a garbage bag over common survival kit. It's amazingly useful and most people don't even know! and.... NYC homeless person is expert at it.

Yeah... makeshift sleeping bag, rain cover, water gathering, filtering water, carrying stuff, etc etc etc, many uses.

Solar Still.... Can't beat that.

Thanks for contributing. My GOOD bag does have ziplock bags and trash bags. But you made a valid point and I should have mentioned it. I have other items too. Like a multitool.

An EMP attack would not be the end of the world, it would just be the end as we have grown accustomed to.

Now, the solar storm NASA keeps warning about, would be the same effect as an EMP, except on a larger scale.

Even if that were to happen, I am sure order would be restored quickly. The number of "good" folks greatly outnumber the bad.

Not the end of "what we have grown accustomed to" either....
It will make things move a lot slower, and tougher for deafies, but... in due time things will be restored.

THINK ABOUT IT...........

How many computers are sitting around in warehouses around the world? These computers will be fine, and easily replacing the ones that fried.

I wouldn't just go up the mountains if everyone is headed thataway.

this is a comment about this issue from a member of Xi ***edit, its spelled Xe ****(formerly known as blackwater) whom I have talked with for several years. He trains special forces in Afghanistan:

I can go primitive on a moments notice... some bows and arrows, my Hawken .54 cal muzzle loader, .44 cap and ball, tomahawk and knives covers weapons...
As far as the rest of my gear, I have enough survival gear and first aid stuff to take care of a small militia. Plus, my secret stash that nobody knows about but me, who's contents are classified.
If electronics go out, It wont affect me too much. Yea, I'll miss my laptop, but not for long.
As we saw with Katrina, you've got 24 hours before humans turn into savages.
I'm going straight to my local convenience store and taking over....food and gas (and beer), and a convenient command center to start organizing my new local government.

its all tongue in cheek ;)

Every GOOD bag must contain Dharma Initiative BEER!
