District files appeal against deaf student

I am not the only one making judgements about John Tracy Clinic. Have youread some of the posts in here about JTC? And what I do know is that JTC is one of the most infamous oral clinics in the country...it is widespread knowledge. Tehy advertise themselves as an oral instituion. You admit that they are an oral institution. You were trained at JTC. How is that making a judgement? It is merely stating facts. And doesn't JTC make the judgement in regard to all deaf children, that they should be taught oral language first, and not be exposed to sign? That is making a judgement about an entire population of people based on nothing more than their own philosophy.

You said in your previous posts that you could make these judgements without contact with the parents. So which is it? You really need to stop contradicting yourself. And please go back and answer the questions posed to your earlier.

Again you are making judgements about JTC from hearing what other people say. Have you ever taken the time to call them or visit them to make judgements on what you yourself know not what other people tell you.
Talk about being judgemental.

Pete, there have been some things I have needed to take care of. These last couple of nights I haven't gotten home until 8 or 9 at night and I think that is after 11:00 pm where you are, I am not sure what time you go to bed. What is the time difference between you and I.

I go to bed when the moon does. My cell is on the blitz right now, as it was naughty and I whipped it against the dashboard. You can try calling me to see if it goes through, though.

I understand your frustration. I am really sick of getting generalized with all hearing people because you know what Shel, NOT all hearing people are like that. Please don't generalize me or others. You come across to me as an audist when you do that and I know that is not your intention.

rockdrummer,

Excuse me, but HEARING PEOPLE are the ones that have labeled us deaf/hoh folks as "deaf and dumb" all these years, decades, centuries. Now, all of a sudden, you want to be our best friend and know what's right?

Shel90, don't back down!

Hearing people have created this mess, they can clean it up. Please wait until I finish law school to think about starting, okay, I'd like to be in on the litigation, as I'd like to help cleanup, too! :whip:

You understand zilch.

Thanks..but it is true..not all hearing people are like that. Jillo and my hearing coworkers are a few to speak that didnt create this mess..so it would have been more appropriate to type "most". :)

I said a year to 2 years max but I did not say at least 2 years and that 2 years was max I needed and that it is a parents' choice but in my class I do not use sign language.
Some of my students do know signs that they use at home but I do not use sign language in my class because it is an oral class. When a child uses signs in my class I recognize their sign and repeat what they sign in oral language.[/QUOTE]

Umm..what if the child doesnt understand u in oral language? Maybe that is why the child is using sign cuz that is his/her only access to communication that they can comprehend?

Good point.

I have done sufficient research into the institution to be able to form my own opinion of their methods and their philosophies, thank you. That is not judgemental....it is informed.

I wasn't offended. The hearies that have created this mess are as much an irritaiton to me as they are to the deafies.:giggle:

Perhaps you should go back to 1880 times when the decision was made by hearing people not to allow sign.... based on RELIGOUS grounds.

After all, how would someone go to heaven when he couldn't confess...

So, instead of blaming "hearing people" - blame the church... Go file a complaint against them..

:dunno: Still looking for all that research she said she had that supported not using sign until a child proves they can't make it orally, too.

[/B]
There it is! Everything that needs to be said in one sentence. And to assume that hearing know better than deaf what deaf need is arrogant.

Amazing, how you can get so much satisfaction from your education and feel how all that made you superior, and still come up with a comment like that...

As said numerous times (by different members), you assume too much, and with it you have a great time insulting people. Putting labels on them that are totally wrong.

And when people do not reply to it... you assume you are right.. How wrong can you get!

So, next time someone is not replying to one of your many posts, you might make the RIGHT assumption it has something to do with YOU..

Okay . . . MOST HEARING PEOPLE.

No . . . it was society as a whole, not just the Church. Don't you ever watch old westerns that aren't religious in nature? I'll say most hearing people, as per shel, but don't push the envelope, okay? Hearing people, as a whole, got themselves into a pickle, now they want to get on the good side of us deaf/hoh. For the damage being done and still is, the only way that can be done is to have support in place without boundaries to deaf/hoh students. If hearing students have no boundaries, neither should deaf/hoh. Would you not agree?

Boundaries meaning they have full access with the same amount of help so that all can comprehend in learning and in society. If one group is oppressed, we are all oppressed, even in education.
