It is not gossip. The information I have was given to me by my special education director. I have observed the local deaf school. I am not condemning them. I just stating what has been told to me by my supervisiors.

And how much experience do your supervisors have with schools for the deaf, or even education of the deaf. And I don't mean just special education.

And the remarks you made are nothing more than gossip, by your own admission, You are repeating something that someone else said. That is gossip. And you are repeating it without any foundation on which to back up your remarks. Just, "that what they told me." God help us all, we are being over run with ignorance!

I say, "Thank God for Deaf schools! It protected my son from educators that had absolutely no idea how to educate a deaf child, and put him in the hands of educators who were capable of actually giving him an education, understanding the nuances of deafness, and provided him with succesful deaf role models.

You are right it is a shame. I am sorry you felt you have to drink in order to read my comments. I have felt like pulling out my hair reading your and others comments. I don't support this belief it is the way it is out here. I don't know about other places but this is the way it is here. I honestly didn't mean to offend you, I was telling you how it is here. I have heard some real horror stories about things that happen in the dorms of the deaf schools here in California. This is one of the main reason I would never send my children to the deaf school. I am sure there are a lot of smart deaf signers at these schools.
Just because I stated this information doesn't mean I support this philosophy.

What I said about the "bad" kids is not what I feel because I personally have never referred any students to the deaf schools. What I said is what I have overheard said in the school districts I have work for.

Who are u to say make that assumption about me needing to drink to read your comments? Oh man! and u wonder why we are critical of u? ASK before u make comments like these!

U complain about us being judgemental but u turn around and do just the same? Wow...

I dont need to justify my reasons for having a relaxing cold drink on a hot summer day. Wow! To imply that I needed to drink to read your posts is absurd!

You are against anything that does not agree with what you believe in.

I am against denying any children full access to language and the oral-only approach does that..otherwise there would be no kids being delayed in language, would there be? It is about the children not about me.

Those people shouldnt be in the education system if they are calling deaf kids who go to deaf schools bad.

I was brainwashed by those so-called professionals that deaf kids who go to the deaf schoools and use ASL were low functioning so I grew up thinking I was superior to them. Looking back, what a complete waste because I could have had some friendships but no...

And u and others wonder why some deaf people in the Deaf community are hostile and angry to hearing people...no shit, if I was labeled "bad". I would be too!

Im just glad that my and Jolies 2 deaf sons are attending deaf school now where they have everything....even if one of my boys going to mainstreamed classes they have 7 interpereters on staff.........

to some of yall some teachers have LOUSY english and spelling i know a social studies teacher at my old school have LOUSY english he have MA from WMC and still have lousy english... makin no differnce and even some hearing people have LOUSY english and spelling....

Well after I went thru all kind of schools and I hate deaf schools. Sorry u guys, they did not teach me at all instead they made me dumb. I perfer to attend public school where I get more education with of course interpters. CART is not for me if I am attending high school now. I perfer to have full time interpters.

No one here is saying that this kid shouldn't have CART. If you will go back and read the posts from beginning to end, CART was supported, until jackie came in and started pushing her oralist views down everyone's throat. I provide services at the college level and we use CART and an interpreter at the same time, and I think it was even mentioned to jackie that this would be an option because the terp provides content to make the transcript more understandable. We are all for providing all of the services that a deaf kid needs for success, with an emphasis on ALL.

JIllo
I have never pushed my oralist's views down anybody's throat. I have shared my views and what I do for a living. I have never said that oral is for eveybody. Unlike you and others that say all deaf kids need to sign.

What??????? Bad kids? Kids are "bad" if they get referred to the deaf schools? Hahahaha! Oh, u are lucky that I have been drinking my Smirdoff Ice and I am a little tipsy otherwise I would have gone thru the ceiling with that one and got myself banned from AD.

This is what you said.

No you do not need to justify why you are having a drink.

This is your opinion. What I am doing is requiring the school district to give my daughter full access.
A child who justs signs and has an interpeter also does not have full access just as my daughter with her FM and notetaker does not have full access.

I think JIllo said that many of her college level students have an interpeter and CART to ensure equal access that is all that I am trying to do.

Those people shouldnt be in the education system if they are calling deaf kids who go to deaf schools bad.

Wait they are not calling all deaf kids at these deaf schools "bad". They are just saying that the deaf kids that get kick out of the local programs are sent to the deaf schools. I have also seen local program send deaf kids to the deaf kids because they age out of the local programs.

I was brainwashed by those so-called professionals that deaf kids who go to the deaf schoools and use ASL were low functioning so I grew up thinking I was superior to them. Looking back, what a complete waste because I could have had some friendships but no...

You are probable right but I found the most hostile from people lke you and jillo did not attend the deaf kids.

WE say that ALL deaf kids need FULL ACCESS to LANGUAGE. And you are pushing your oralist views down the throats of any one who will listen to you.

What the hell are you trying to say here? As an educator, you should be able to write a sentence and make your meaning clear.

Correction: You are probably right but I found the most hostility and the last five words make absolutely no sense whatsoever. As an oral teacher of the deaf, you MUSY present a good model of the use of spoken English in order to teach someone else how to use the language.

Yes they do. But college level work is much different from high school level work. And NONE of these kids had CART at the high school level. The majority were raised orally, because that was their parents right to do so. Nowe that they are 18 or more years old, and are able to make their own decisions, they are requesting services to help fill in the gaps created intheior oral education.

And I would venture to say that a child who signs and has an interpreter in class has more access to the classroom material than does an oral child with an FM system and a notetaker. If you knew anything at all about the educational environment and the use of educational interpreters, you would already understand this.

This is what you said.

No you do not need to justify why you are having a drink.

Pls reread your post when u said that I felt the need to drink. Where did I say that?

Pls take responsibility for your own comments. I mentioned that I was having a cold drink and u said those words about me feeling the need to drink in order to read your post...u take responsibility for that assumption. I never said that..your words..not mine.

U didnt even bother to ask me before making that assumption so of course I was pissed.

I think JIllo said that many of her college level students have an interpeter and CART to ensure equal access that is all that I am trying to do.

I am referring what u said about the younger children ..not about your daughter.

You are probable right but I found the most hostile from people lke you and jillo did not attend the deaf kids.

Huh? I dont understand that sentence..can u pls rephrase that?

Jillo is right..we believe in deaf children having full access to language. Something wrong with that?

You alcoholic, you!:giggle:

While driving to work, I couldnt stop laughing about this cuz I cant imagine myself in such bad shape that I am in a NEED of an alcoholic drink to be able to read Jackie's posts. If that was the case, I would be a full blown alcoholic. LOL! I just thought it was tooo funny ...

Tried oral terps when I first started college..too hard and too tiring, then did the CART..was better but I had to constantly read the text soo quickly to be able to catch everything and processing all the technical words became so tiring, so when I felt confident enough in my signing skills, I tried an ASL terp...was so much better and I felt more connected to the class and the discussions.

U used the word "bad" so if they are not calling them bad then why use that word in the first place?
