No, it's the mortgage officer's responsibility to inform you about loans. the thing is they operate by omission meaning they would only tell you if you ask and even when you do ask, they try hard to avoid going into specifics because they know those specifics would scare people off.

Not really. As long as the truth is stated on the contract.

as long as they didn't lie to you.... there's nothing illegal.

and last Friday, I just implemented a feature to our website as per new federal law - Net Price Calculator. Now students and parents can make sure what they're getting into

NetPrice Calculator

New federal law...very illuminating. So, it takes a new federal law to compel people to teach themselves about loans - the banks must be pissed...hahaha.

Part time increases the cost. And part time students, as well, have to take out loans. Do you actually think that working part time, or any job you hold without a college degree pays enough to cover the cost of tuition, books, and living expenses?

Of course...if one is frugal. I guess it depends on how motivated they are to go....

You know what would be nice? If there were people like you who can sit down with students about to graduate from high school, give a seminar and said "ok, here's the deal and here are the facts about real life and its realities..."

I really think that should be mandatory in all high schools, an educational seminar about life after graduation, about what jobs are in demand and which are not, about loans, about cost of living as a student, about transferring from CC to college, etc etc.

yup I still do. I mentor young minds. They're very receptive and they had a good reality check. And many high schools have programs where college students to come to their schools to talk with students and parents. I think it's called College Day? I don't remember.

I've made a thread about it too but it was ignored :(

You act like these options are just abundant and free to anyone who wants to take them (with the exception of CC and military, which may not always be options). That simply is not true. The fact is, there are far, far more students entering college than there are programs to help them pay for college. All of those programs you mentioned are already utilized and maxed out. Yet there are still tons of students that must take out loans. Are they supposed to magically wave a wand and create a work study program? You really need to get this into your head.

I'm inclined to agree with you but.... on the other side... I believe they're spoiled. They don't want to do other options.

but I believe we're both right.

Of course but AGAIN, when I asked about the cost of interest and how much would be add to the loan every year and how much I would have paid in interest over the duration of the loan, they got evasive. They are obliged to tell me but AGAIN, i've explained that they did all they could not to answer my questions in detail but hedge around them as much as possible.

They are obliged to answer such questions but in reality, they try their hardest not to. I can tell you when I asked for the loan officer's calculator and started calculating, the look on her face was actually pretty funny - it was shock then stammering and then she stopped talking as i pointed out how the interest was adding up and how little of the capital was being paid. I asked her "don't you have software on your computer that could help me figure all this out faster than this calculator? Would be nice if you could help me out here." I don't think she came across anyone like me before in her office and was completely caught off-guard.

but..... I did it.... So why are you suggesting??? free handouts???

but..... I did it.... So why are you suggesting??? free handouts???

You took free handouts.

And you have already shown us that you are so far above the average college student, and so much more wise and capable, so much more intelligent and talented that we really can't use you as a comparison. You are far too special.

Grant money covers a amount of school expenses. VR is only available to those with disabilities, scholarships are very competitive, and the most frequent amount of scholarships are $1,000. And outside scholarships reduce the amount of grant money that you are eligible for. Therefore, it does nothing to add to the overall amount you are provided per year. All scholarships are applied first, and then that amount is deducted from your grant eligibility. Charity? Where exactly do you find charity except in the form of private scholarships and loans?

So on...no such thing.

But once again, you are talking about free money. Doesn't have to be paid back. And you are against hand outs?

but how is it free money when it's from our taxes that we paid? :dizzy:

but how is it free money when it's from our taxes? :dizzy:

From our taxes?:laugh2: Yeah, that's where it all comes from. And every taxpayer gets their investment back, right? Someone else's taxes provided that money for you Jiro.:laugh2: Several someones as a matter of fact.

I'm inclined to agree with you but.... on the other side... I believe they're spoiled. They don't want to do other options.

but I believe we're both right.

Some are, but some aren't. At Cal State, Chico, I would agree that the majority of the students were spoiled little twerps (40% were from Southern California).

At Purdue? I'd say it was completely reversed. Of the hundreds of students I taught in three years, there were maybe a dozen whom I felt had the spoiled, entitled mentality. I gave only two C grades in composition, in six semesters. In creative writing, the numbers for underachievement were a little higher. I did not fail a single student while I was there, and that's not because I'm a teddy bear of a teacher. . .

is that a problem with you?

It is when you consistently ridicule others who do, or others that do not have the opportunity to take all those free handouts that you got and then attempt to compare your situation to theirs.

so.... we have to create laws to tell morons what to do?

and no I wasn't much more intelligent and talented... I was just a hard worker and careful with what papers I'm signing.

But.... if I can get those grants... they can too.

I am ridiculing people for not knowing what they signed up for and now demanding for loan forgiveness or bailout or whatever they want. That's the difference. Do you understand?

Looks pretty cheap to me...

24 units with books and fees well under $2000

Tarrant County College - Tuition and Fees

From the website:

"provide you with the skills to successfully transfer to a 4 year college"

In other words, you can't do anything with their degree except transfer to a 4 year school where you will loose credits and extend your attempts to achieve a Bachelor degree by 1 to 2 years.

Did you bother to figure the cost by credit hour? Not cheap at all.
