just a safety precaution, I suppose.

Also you can clearly see in this video that the tear gas was being lobbed in. In fact, stuff is traveling at a higher velocity when it is going toward the police.
Also he appears to be pretty coherent at the 1 minute mark of the video in post 832. He is able to adjust his hair, nod and turn toward a voice.
I believe it was lobbed BACK to police. Protestors can't buy a tear gas canister.

reminds me of Terri Schiavo

Well they can.... but that is not what I was saying
The point is they are throwing them back at a higher velocity. That is obvious. In this area anyway. And again I am not saying police DIDN'T do it. I am saying there is no proof either way
Seriously. I doubt that any mental status exam would have found him "coherent" at that point.
Well they say he was unconscious when he arrived at the hospital....Pretty rapid deterioration. Could happen though. Might have been best if the protesters would have backed away as told so that they could get EMTs to him right away.
The EMTs were no where to be found. That is why the crowd had to come to his assistance. Private citizens carried him out, put him in a car, and took him to the hospital.
Rapid deterioration? Not in the case of a skull fracture. The brain begins to swell immediately. He could very well have died on the way to the hospital from an injury like this.
He wasn't fully conscious in the picture you are referring to.
According to earlier reports on Scott Olsen, he had to be taken there in a car. That suggests to me the cops were not doing their duty.
Are you suggesting that someone came up behind him and reached all the way around to hit him in the area he would have had to be struck and caused the injury?
Someone in the crowd threw a canister back at a higher velocity than it was originally fired by police? Really?

It's clear in the video that canisters were lobbed in rather than fired in.....in that area. You can see them flipping through the air.
And again we see that he turns both directions in the video as well as looking up. We dint see the actual contact so we have no idea which way he was facing. For that matter we don't know for sure he was struck by an object. Perhaps he reached for a canister on the ground and was accidentally head butted.
Then again if you have proof of him being struck by a police object I would love to see it. It's very possible that happened. I'm sticking with "we don't know yet" since there is no conclusive proof that I have seen.
And that point doesn't even matter to me because I support the police using tear gas in that situation. That is what it is for.
