Declaration of Occupy Wall Street

Nope, I don't think the cop ever "decided to strike hard" in the first place. I think the cop drew back as a warning.

I guess you have problems with your eyes then. he didn't raise it then suspend it in the air as a threat...he brought that baton down.

It doesn't matter what you think. They cannot do that.

wow.... nice responses from Tea Party supporters....

Now I wonder why OWS is twice as popular as the Tea Party according to this poll. The Tea Party just seems to be full of vitriol.

I guess the majority of Americans are just classless, whiney liberals. Because that's what this whole OWS is about, right conservatives?

Trying to remain unbiased here. This video appear to me, just on what I can clearly see, as a protester acting like a wounded soccer player, while a police officer fakes a baton strike. If you see true police brutality in this video, you might be biased a bit. If you think there has been no police brutality in this occupation, you are a bit biased as well.

Talk to police officers about faking baton strikes.

Just a FYI;

I grew up during the Vietnam War. I was a protester. I have smelled tear gas. Have seen police brutality up close. I am not a protest hater. But if you see anything other than some guy acting as though he needed immediate leg amputation, then you better take a long look at whether or not you are looking at things objectively. If you think I am aligning with the Conservatives and Right Wingers and Limbaughs of the world, you are sorely mistaken. I lean left, but I walk down the middle most times. This is not a good video for the Left to be waving like a rally flag. It is an embarrassment to their cause, IMO.

No, it was the right that brought this video up as evidence that the protesters were just "faking it." The argument here is whether it is faked or not, not that this is a prime example of police brutality.

For the much better example of brutality being used by the demonstrators, see the videos of NYPD Sgt. Tony Bologna (lol at the name!) "sucker punch" pepper spraying non-offending protesters. But even that gets poo-poo'd by the conservatives here.

I don't poo-poo too many videos, but this one posted here was a bad choice. Might be why TxHacker :P posted it.

True, I wouldn't have posted it and screamed "bruttaaaliitty!" The man is obviously overreacting (like an Italian soccer player. lol), but there's definitely some unnecessary roughness by the cops.

Also, it looks to me like there are two different incidents happening in this video. First, it appears the protester goes down. We don't know why he goes down, but he's just kicking around on the ground rather ridiculously. But then, it looks like the cop moves his bike up further, and THAT is when it goes on top of the protester's ankle. At that point, the protester is in real pain. Accident or intentional?

I don't think it is strictly Italian soccer players that "magnify" their discomfort; I thought it was a practiced part of the game, taught by coaches from the peewees all the way up to World Cup. I believe they even have drills on it during practices. :giggle:

I want to see other video that shows more clearly. If there is brutality occuring (very likely) someone with capture it on video. This one ain't gonna sway too many of us.

Well that makes sense, since liberals crybabies all play "futbol."

True Americans play rough n tough FOOTBALL! :D

Ya'll don't argue over one incident. The bad leaders love bickering between groups because if groups actually unite they can actually change policy.

Focus on the real issues.

Economic policy failed for three reasons:

1.Policymakers focused on enabling off-shoring corporations to move middle class jobs, and the consumer demand, tax base, GDP, and careers associated with the jobs, to foreign countries, such as China and India, where labor is inexpensive.

2.Policymakers permitted financial deregulation that unleashed fraud and debt leverage on a scale previously unimaginable.

3.Policymakers responded to the resulting financial crisis by imposing austerity on the population and running the printing press in order to bail out banks and prevent nny losses to the banks regardless of the cost to national economies and innocent parties.

Just an FYI: I didn't even LOOK at the video. It is just that when someone started saying that the cop made a "fake" baton strike, I had to speak up, since I immediately knew it not to be true. :cool2:

Do you see how the motorcycle is on top of his ankle? Yeah, that's fake . . .

1. it's not a motorcycle. it's a scooter.
2. it wasn't on top of his ankle. I think it's obvious that this faker purposely placed his foot under there just to create a scene
3. why? because if you've ridden scooter before, you'd know that you'd flip over if you try to run over something like a leg

So that makes it okay to beat him with a baton?

You know, I really hope you get put into a position one of these days where you're treated unfairly by a police officer. Then you might stop before you make stupid comments like this.

Exactly. The guy lying on the ground had no weapons and was defenseless. The baton was absolutely not necessary considering there were like 10 cops who could have easily picked the guy up and handcuffed him.

So, I guess anyone laying on the ground deserves to be beaten with a baton according to your reasoning.

How lovely.

and officers would say - "I really hope you get put into a position one of these days where you're being mobbed by an uncooperative, combative troll resisting arrest or disobeying order."
