How convenietly you are not saying anything about Jill critizing everybody who did implant their children:

You don't understand that she is doing that only because she needs to reassure herself that she made the right choice.

First of all, my name is Mari not Mara....Second of all, this will be the last time that I post, because I choose not to engage it disucssions with people who know NOTHING about it.. I am Mari Artinian and Peter is my son.... my son was diganosed at 6 days of age..........Funny that wasn't on the movie because the movie makeers were not involved with the process until Peter was 4 months old, when we put him in the BOCES program.... We did our research before and during the time we were filmed..........My mother in law and the rest of the family knew nothing of the implant until Chris and I started to research it for Peter...... There were sceanrios in which it was made to look one way, when in fact it was another... Heather was BEGGING for the implant when it was denied to her... My mother in law (although I would conceed is very pushy) was only doing it beasue Heather wanted it so badly....I was there, you werent' so don't make assumputions based soley on the movie.... Even our reality tv shows aren't exactly "reality" either..........

I see, and now that I know who you are. I do have several questions, why is having a deaf child so upsetting? Are you more worried about the failure of your son's future if he remains deaf without the use of cochlear implant? If you haven't noticed there are many deaf people who are not alike in many ways, U have deaf people who stick in their little world which called "Deaf Culture" You also deaf people who socially in both worlds, You also have deaf people who just socially in the hearing world. No individual are similar to another individual.

Yes, I am aware of Heather begging for an implant but if you realize something here, cochlear implant is a personal choice, it's a lifetime commitment, her parents just wanted to make sure this is exact what Heather wants. I hope you understand where Heather's parents are coming from.

Who's Jill? you mean "Jillio" ? I haven't seen her critizing these parents yet, as far from reading most of her posts, she believes in "individual" choice like some of these members here such as Cheri and Liebling etc, but for myself I'm in the middle from both sides....I believe in both "parents" and "individual" choice...

But your MIL should not interfere deaf parent´s decision on their daughter Heather. It´s between deaf parents and Heather, not her..

I can understand where deaf parents come from. They want to make sure first before they made decision.

I would leave deaf parents alone with their decision when I were your MIL. Feedback and opinion would help her decision but not interfere their decision.

I have read your previous post about your life experience with your Deaf parents. I am sorry how and what you had been through. I would never, never, never do that to my both hearing boys. I want them know that I can do everything like hearing people.

I would do the same as Heather´s parents... If my deaf child ask us for CI. I would not say "YES, you will have it ASAP." OR Promise that you will have CI... I would never do that to my child.. .Its about trust... I would say: Sure, I will be happy to fulfil your wish but I cannot promise either you will get it because I need to know more about CI first... Of course I would expose my deaf child to both world .... not just my child but me as well...

I do not see anything that she critizing hearing parents for implant their child with CI. All what I see that there´re heat debate that´s because they (hearing and deaf posters) have different POV over between develop hear and language skill development.

No, I was not even wrong, like doubletrouble said some where edited out as she stated. So, Liebling and I were not even wrong, we watched the movie. We even had the same opinion of what we saw.

Well, Heather received her first CI when she was around 9 years old with the support from their parents.

Without support from their parents, Heather would of wait until she is 18 years old and then make her own decision. Right?

The parents rather wait and make sure first before they are able to fulfil their daughter´s wish.

Mari Artinian, I thought it was you when I read your post. I rember you. my heart was breaking for you when I was watching you going thru this difficult time, not knowing if what you want is right. All those doubts, fears, all that pressure.
I just wanted to say that the moment that stayed most in my memory from the movie was at some outside gathering in the park, and I remember that scene vivildy.
I just wanted to say I was extremly upset with your mother then. She was so wrong.
I think you are great daughter, so patient, forgiving and loving, and you had every right to chose a decision whatever it was - it was YOUR child. YOUR CHILD.
And for what it's worth I think your chose the best options available.
