What about the movie " Sound and Fury " I thought the grandmother got mad at the parents for not impant their child ?....Unless I read someone's post wrong in another thread...
Angel, I can only speak from my personal experiences. I have not seen that movie. I am relating to what I have read from others on this board.

Rockdrummer, I haven't seen the movie myself either, and you're correct, I haven't seen any hearing person telling a deaf parent of a deaf child that they are wrong for making the decision for not impanting their child but I've heard it from other people through...

Also if you read some of Fuzzy's post where she said about Jillioie as a mother of her deaf son....

Yes it's true, I've seen the movie myself, the grandma was so pushy and she even judged the parents on how they are not giving the daughter the opportunity to hear.

The parents would rather the daughter to make that decision for herself and doesn't need the grandma to butt in.

Ah, that's what I thought, Thank you for clearing this up....

See Cheri, the problem is that the daughter DID make the decision... She told her parents that she watned the implant...She was denied it...Yes, the granmother was pushy, but only on Heather's behalf....there were 2 other deaf children in that family, and the grandmother did not argue for them... they didn't ask for it at the time...............funny thing is that 3 years later, they ALL got implanted....... and I would know....

So you're saying you're one of them or know the family or friends personally? Nothing to do with the discussion here; I'm just curious about the "....and I would know". Thanks

Yes but, the grandma is the one who told her granddaughter about cochlear implant, at the begin of the movie, You'll see how she told her grand-daughter that she could hear the telephones with cochlear implant, how she could hear the birds, the wind and etc. She was the one who gave her books about cochlear implants behind the parents back, then the daughter goes home and tell her parents that she wants cochlear implant, the parents was surprised because how does she know about cochlear implant?? Her mother wanted her daughter to be 100 percent certain this is what she wants.

And her mother went with her to find information about cochlear implant as I remember the mother wanted one too. So if the mother didn't care of her daughter's wishes, she wouldn't have took her places where all cochlear implant kids go to school at, and meet other parents who have implanted children.

It was none of grandma's business to begin with, and the idea of cochlear implant was brought up by the grandma, she has no business to even discuss things like that to the grand daughter, she should be the one suggesting it to the parents not the grand daughter.

Brave? What's wrong with that word?...I'm not surprised that " retard " is on top , I hate that word more than anything....

Yeah I figured out after Shel90 told me about her experience over "special" and suggest in my post # 407 that "brave" should be almost similar as "special"... ???

I have seen the movie, and in Part I, the grandmother definatley told her son and his wife that they were wrong for discouraging the implant for their deaf daughter. I have yet to see Part II, so I can't comment on that.

Sorry Cheri, but you are misinformed.... Heather found out about the implant because of her cousin, not because of her grandmother.... That was never shown (due to editing)... Her grandmother did not know anything about the implant until the baby's parents started to investigate it for their son... This is a fact... There was no discussion of the implant until it was decided that the baby was going to get it...........then Heather started to ask questions... and decided that she wanted one.........And if you say that she was too young, she will tell you that she wished that she was implanted earlier, as she had requested....At the same age Heather was in the movie (5) was when my son asked for his second implant- of which I complied to do......

Also, mom did all of that for the movie....IT was set up through the movie pepole....Everything is not as it seems ... editing plays a large part of it...

Thank you, Angel. :ty: I feel like sometimes people get so involved in what I have said, that they forget to look at the post that I am responding to, or the criticism I have received for not implanting my child and making the decision to expose him to Deaf Culture. My son is more than his ears, and I choose the methods that I felt best addressed ALL of his needs, not just his ability to hear. Sometimes, it seems that people concentrate so hard on their child's ears that they forget there is a little person between those ears and that a child has many more needs that need to be addressed than auditory function.

Are you speaking of the twins one of them was deaf and the other one was hearing? If so, I saw how the mother discuss this cochlear implant with the girl's mother after the girl knew about cochlear implant. So don't tell me that this girl knew about cochlear implant because of her cousin.

How do u know that for fact that the movie was edited? I'm sorry I don't buy it.

No matter where Heather get it from... All what I withnessed video that it´s Grandma who involved, not Peter´s brother Chris and his wife Mara who are for CI on one of twins. Grandma involved and disrespect Peter & his wife´s decision for their daughter Heather. Grandma should keep out of her son Peter & wife´s business. I also have seen that Grandma inflluenced Heather about "talk on the phone", etc... During BBQ party, Heather asked Grandma where is book... It look like that Grandma made out of purpose to "remind" CI... "Do you mean CI book"? Deaf parents told her to stop to confuse Heather... Grandma acussed them as child abuse for refuse to implant Heather with CI. It blow up..... Chris and Mara did not involved those issues... but just debated...

I also saw that Chris and Mara brought their twins to doctor... They confirmed them that one of their twin are deaf.. They cried... and start to focus CI......................

That's exactly what I saw Liebling, You're correct. ;)

First of all, my name is Mari not Mara....Second of all, this will be the last time that I post, because I choose not to engage it disucssions with people who know NOTHING about it.. I am Mari Artinian and Peter is my son.... my son was diganosed at 6 days of age..........Funny that wasn't on the movie because the movie makeers were not involved with the process until Peter was 4 months old, when we put him in the BOCES program.... We did our research before and during the time we were filmed..........My mother in law and the rest of the family knew nothing of the implant until Chris and I started to research it for Peter...... There were sceanrios in which it was made to look one way, when in fact it was another... Heather was BEGGING for the implant when it was denied to her... My mother in law (although I would conceed is very pushy) was only doing it beasue Heather wanted it so badly....I was there, you werent' so don't make assumputions based soley on the movie.... Even our reality tv shows aren't exactly "reality" either..........

Angel, you DIDN'T EVEN SEE the movie, and you are passing opinions?!
how can you don that?

as for Jillio's son - yes, what about? what new lies are you hinting at me? I NEVER said anything derogatory about Jillio's son. SHOW ME WHERE I SAID SOMETHING BAD about Jillio's son?

Ah interesting....ok ok guys let me watch the movie first LOL

I agree this is a good idea. I would also recommend for you to read my posts since 2005 to also know what are you talking about - about ME.

Fuzzy

You're very welcome Jillioe, I agreed with what you stated above and what upsets me the most is that some of these people here doesn't look at it from both sides or have read the part where you were responding to, or has not read what Fuzzy stated in her post about you and how she criticism you for not implanting your deaf son or the decision you had made regarding to your deaf son..
