CI on 6 year old.

Actually SHel you are missing the point. Many normally hearing kids have speech theraphy, it really isn't as big of a deal as some deaf people seem to think it is. It's something normally hearing kids end up doing to, the advantage the normally hearing kids have is they actually do hear themselves so it's easier, Lotte hears herself with her CI so she has that advantage over Angel when it comes to speech, being able to hear the sounds makes it easier to make them and understand them. But for whatever reason some of you are refusing to ackknowledge that fact. Oh well. In another 10 years the CI's will probably be excepted just a HA's are now.

I have never refused to acknowledge that fact..what are u talking about? First, I reacted to this story, then I agreed with Jillo about surgery having risks, and then I talked about Lotte walking in Angel's shoes so where did that come from?

I have always stated and will still stick by it..speech is not the most important thing to me for a deaf child to have. Knowledge, the ability to share conceptual thoughts, and higher level of cognitive processing especially abstractically are the most important goals I have for deaf children. Speech means nothing to me if the child cannot do any of those I mentioned above. We just have different views but doesnt mean I dont acknowledge that some children have successes with CIs as far as speech and listening skills are concerned. So, pls show me where did I say that. Thank u

obviously you wouldn't understand.

I do know that some hearing kids do have speech therapy but I dont understand what it has to do with my comment about Lotte walking in Angel's shoes. I am totally lost now..all I was just saying that at least two common traits that Angel and Lotte do share..maybe there is more or maybe not. Sure, Lotte will have a different experience than Angel growing up ..we all do but Cloggy stated that there is no way that Lotte will ever walk in Angel's shoes. How would he know that anyway? We cant predict the future so I was being sarcastic that Lotte has NOTHING in common with Angel..or maybe that Cloggy thinks Angel's experience as a non CI user wont be as good as Lotte's who is a CI user? That would really be kinda mean if he really thought that way.

OMG! How far are you willing to go in the name of technology when there are solutions that don't involve invasive surgical procedures? I just don't understand how anyone can justify permanent disfigurement and the pain this child went through just for the chance of a small amount of sound perception! This is downright scary!!!!!!

So much nonsense in 1 post...
  • "solutions that don't involve invasive surgical procedures" .... There are none available that comes even close to CI
  • "chance of a small amount of sound perception!".... It's hardly a chance, and it's a lot of sound perception.... ask any CI-user on this board..

Looking forward to see you failing to come up with some information backing up your statements...
And when you realise you're talking nonsense... don't worry, no apology is expected... you can just pretend it never happened........

Still haven't found it, huh? Wow--it's not that difficult. Shel and I have all but taken hold of your hand and clicked you there. And I don't worry about apologizing to you, trust me. Its more likely that I would apologize FOR you.

All that just for a lot of sound perception? Wow...

I guess speech and sound perspection is the most important to u just like language development is the most important thing to me. No wonder we probably will never agree on anything when it comes to this topic. One thing we can agree on is that Lotte will grow up successful and happy. :)

If it was child abuse, then the father of adopted would have been arrested and taken away to jail and the child become being controlled by CPS (they are the one that may support CI) *shrug*

OR even the surgeon doctor should have his license revoked and never to operate again at all.

Good point Boult and since the person who started this thread knows the father personally, and please don't forget the mother, why doesn't she personally contact the police and have them both arrested?

Of course, I hope she has plenty of insurance coverage for the wrongful arrest suit!

Rick

Be perfectly honest with some of you, I haven't seen at least one cochlear implant person that had came in this thread show any sign of sympathy for this adopted child, and I don't know what else to say to this point on, It's like don't they have a heart? I have never experience those type of people before. It's very sad. :(

Since I do not believe the story, in my mind there is no one to feel sorry for.

Liebling,

Please read posts 3s 13 & 14.

Speaking for myself, the reason why I haven't posted is because posts like these are used as currency by people who are essentially against child implantation. I have watched how the discussion in this thread has unfolded and the parent has already been labelled a "child abuser", even though none of us here know him from a bar of soap and do not have access to all the facts of the case.

I disagree with the use of sad (and rare) stories like this in such a way on principle. It's cheap.

Great post!!

Rick

Yea, the poster is a big fat liar...how do we know that u are not lying about the statements u have made, Rick?

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Yea, again with the patronizing...and u get mad if others patronize u or call u a liar. Heck, u even started a thread about lying here on AD. So which is it u want? Respect from us ...if so, then respect us instead of saying ZZZZZZZZZ. If u want me to get immature and childish here, I can do it but I wont cuz I dont think it would get us anywhere so why bother?

You don't.

But the difference is that I do not care whether you, and I mean you, believe them or not.

You don't.

Right and in spite of that, many of us have taken your word for it about your stories or statements anyway cuz we do believe in successful CI users and surgery ..however, this thread is about an unsuccessful CI surgery and right away u dont believe it? That's what threw me off.

I know how you feel cloggy, but for me the "zzzzzz's" come AFTER I've bashed myself unconscious on the desk out of frustration and incredulity at some of the commentary.

Team #A

Team #B

Let's go teams!!!

This whole thing has gotten so silly and it just escalated so the fact remains, we all have different views and we will never agree with each other anyway. Nobody is right or wrong here.

I am at the point where I am just laughing at this whole thing. :giggle:
