CI--Deaf or Hearing?

And, so are you.... So?

So? So nothing. It wasn't directed toward you. And the fact that I am hearing, too was very much the point. You might want to go back a few pages and read the rant that occurred earlier.

:laugh2: I just took a look at the last few posts by several of these no-longer-posting parents -- MomtoToes was a delight, I "know" her (well, only in that I've read her posts :) ) through other venues. Seems like there was a common element in quite a few of these final conversations. :laugh2:

That would be based on your own hearing perspective. It is well know that one will see what one expects and desires to see, whether it is grounded in reality or not.

Actually it would be based on the last posts from various members that no longer participate. It has nothing to do with "hearing" or "deaf" perspective. It has everything to do with that one common denominator.

Some things clearly never change.

:laugh2: You are so confused as to believe that hearing perspective and Deaf perpsective has nothing to do with it? Really??!!

Indeed, some things never change.:laugh2: Obviously, you don't have any interest in changing.:laugh2:

When it comes to common denominators affecting the D/deaf, you have shown no ability to even recognize such. I doubt seriously you exceed in the skill of determining such in other circumstances, either.

How could it not be otherwise? :P

We all come to this forum with our ideas, past experiences and preconceived notions. The trick is to be able to understand others are coming here with their own baggage and employ that knowledge to make your points and arguements. I really enjoy reading others points of views as it helps me to fine tune my arguements and ideas. It's hard sometimes keeping an open mind, especially when others have ideas that are very radical or worst, not well articulated. I welcome and encourage everyone to continue to share your ideas and viewpoints. Its important in our society. We should all strive to first try to understand where someone is coming from before replying. We won't all agree, but that doesn't mean we cannot all learn.

Of course! And I see a common denominator. Hearing perspective and defensive attitudes rather than open mindedness, a willingness to learn, and lack respect for the Deaf.

And sometimes that understanding is achieved, but for no positive gain. Even understanding the origins does not mitigate the negative impact of some attitudes upon the deaf population.

I'm afraid that's true especially in this forum.

So why did you bring up the fact that I'm hearing? You didn't have to. She asked a question. I answered it. Hearing status hasn't affected anyone's memory last I checked.

As for going back and reading what has truly become a train wreck, I think I've seen enough.

Listen, I respect you. But, when you point out the hearing status of a person to slight another, I have a problem with that; especially if I'm the "tool" being used for that slight. It was unnecessary, but then, there's been a lot of unnecessary crap strewn around in this thread. It's truly my hope that a mod comes around soon and locks up this disaster area.

Well, Jillio, it's not too late for you to work on those issues, put a little self-help strategy to work. If you tone down the defensiveness, open your mind, and remove the jaundiced filters through which you see and interpret every post from someone parenting a deaf child, I think you'll find that real and respectful conversations will go a long way towards common understanding. And in the end, is the goal really to drive out diversity here? Or is it to build a strong community through such variety and make the world a better place for the next generation of deaf kids? And, of course, to feed the hungry, clothe the poor, etc.

You forgot about sheltering strays.

Like I said, go back a few pages and read the rant from earlier today. Then you will understand why the hearing comment was made.

Personally, I hope the thread doesn't get locked. I think there is a great deal of information in here that is useful to many. Some of it from very unexpected sources.

Yep, the Deaf spoke, and again you didn't listen.:cool2:

So the goal is in fact to drive out diversity. Interesting. No surprise that members who didn't fit into the little box didn't stay. I guess there has been partial success then.

You are still not listening, and you are bastardizing the very concept of diversity.:cool2:
