CI--Deaf or Hearing?

That is hardly what I was referring to, but again, trying to appear superior to the deaf/Deaf is what keeps you in hot water around here.

Signing SEE could hardly be considered "signing" at all.:cool2: When "signing" is referred to here and elsewhere in the Deaf community, it is in reference to ASL or PSE, not one of the hearing invented MCEs.

Stop making things up. I don't think I'm superior to anyone- deaf/deaf/hearing/ugly/whatever. I believe we are all equal. Different, but equal. Perhaps it would be wise for some to take a look in the mirror and seriously consider their own superiority complex.

One of the most predominant is how accepted behaviors that differ from hearing society are necessary for the Deaf/deaf. Such as touching to get someone's attention. The hearing have very strict boundaries regarding touching. It is necessary, however, if you are Deaf/deaf. Another is the lack of willingness in the hearing society to actually accommodate the Deaf/deaf, even though the hearing society is responsible for the creation of those social barriers. Many talk about having empathy or understanding, but few demonstrate in in real life.

I had an experience a few minutes ago... A co-worker came to my office and just stood at the door politely coughing for 5 mins or so. I had no idea he was there and I just happened to turn around and noticed him. We had a conversation about how to get my attention and suggested strongly that he just tap my shoulder. He absolutely refused to touch me at all... sigh. He wanted to lightly tap his foot on the floor. I almost laughed out loud, I told him I am Deaf and he quickly responded that he does not see me that way. So I asserted that I am deaf and I proudly see myself that way. He got all embarrassed so we moved on to the topic he stopped by to discuss with me.

I'm :deaf: and proud of it!

Ah. Touching was difficult for me at first but eventally I had to learn to accept it though I always brace myself when I see that coming. I swear Deaf sharpen their elbows before the elbow me. :P Touching can be painful for me at times.

No doubt. My son used to just about dislocate my shoulder beating on it!

Yes he does... and I am male. (just in case that was not widely disseminated on the forums!) :)

that was one of the easiest things for me, the touching aspect... because I was raised in a very touchy feely family... some people do take it overboard though... my partner use to try and get my attention by touching the back of my neck... that was hard... still don't understand why she did that...

CSign... you do not act as if we are all equal... you do not act as though our culture really means much to you. If you did you would not be teaching your son SEE, you would be letting him use his natural language, ASL, you would be giving him more voice off time, you would not be getting so defensive. In my opinion, jullio has been accepted into our community, you on the other hand, have not. You have not taken the time to find out what it is like for you son, you have not taken the time to understand our culture. You have stated the deafies come up to you and praise you with the work you have done with your son, i doubt it. You look at everything with your hearing perspective, you see SEE as a language, you see SEE as what needs to be taught to deaf children, you, are an audist... and no matter what you say... in our community... the Deaf have a right to be superior over the audists, because they are WRONG. You think you have been "signing" longer than some of us... yes you may have been using SEE longer, but as jullio has pointed out... that is NOT signing. you have been caught in a house of lies, figure it out, and get over it.

Ash345- it would serve you well to read what I have written in the past and form your opinion about me, rather than basing it on the nonsense Jullio spills out of her fingers. Additionally, some of the things you claim about me are incorrect, and you're confusing me with another poster. Considering you have been on this forum less than a month, you would be better off to reserve your opinion of others until you are clear on their ideas. You are not clear about me, what I know, what I do. Jullio likes to "put words in my mouth" that were never spoken, or typed in "black and white". I did notice how you "liked" all of Jullio's posts. I find that interesting, as I personally wouldn't "like" a post that demeans and puts others down. But hey- that's just me.

In terms of this whole superiority thing, well... I was never a fan of Hitler, but again- that's just me.

so why don't we make it clear for everybody?

1. what sign language are you using with your son?
2. who picked it and why?
3. how long have you been signing it?

I didn't think that Csign would take the challenge. Some people claim to support causes from a distance as long as there's no inconvenience.

What possible business is it of yours what language she uses with her son? Do you want everyone to tell you everything you're doing wrong in your personal life, based on their own opinions on what is the one and only "right" thing to do?

Sheesh. How about some respect for the value of diversity, and some respect for people making their own choices.

You know as well as I do you were not being genuine. You're intentionally being contentious and I'm not going to play your game. Sorry. No can do. I can do things like that on my own, without offering myself up as a sacrificial lamb.

I don't claim to support anything. My actions demonstrate my support.

Apparently diversity here is taboo.

sound family on relative personal aware, your son seems important to ASL!
if you suppose probably SEE or ASL whatever your decision your responsibility adult parents your "son' that is point I aware it I guess I might to think so probably you reason!
I know hard to communication to your son pretty ASL!

Only for some people, but they seem to be the loudest and most prolific typists.

Very strange. It's supposed to be "All" deaf, isn't it? Capital-D Deaf, small-d deaf, Hoh, hearing people with an interest in the subject, etc. We don't all share the same perspective and we won't all come to the same conclusions. Why that fact seems to give some people the vapors is a strange thing.

Believe it or not, I have read up on things, I may have been on this site for less than a month, but that doesn't mean that I am an idiot. I'm not just looking at what jullio writes, and I'm not just liking them because they are from her. I have a mind of my own, and if i happen to agree with someone, then yeah, I will like their posts... and if i find inconsistencies, then i will not I am not one that follows trends, or easily gives in to "peer pressure" there are some poses of jullio's that I did not like, but I don't remember ever liking one of yours...
tell me what things I am incorrect about, and who am i supposedly mixing you up with?
some of your posts are demeaning, so with your train of thought, does that make you like Hitler?

Yep. That is a great example of the differences in accepted behaviors between the two cultures. People really need to look at those differences instead of just letting it stop at one person hears and one person doesn't. That barely hits the surface.
