CI--Deaf or Hearing?

It is because I don't. Evidently, there are few around here that seem to think pointing out errors in thinking and belittling are the same thing.:laugh2: That is that defensiveness that always gets them into trouble around here.

People who are in here to learn about deafness and Deafness do not become offended when they are corrected. People who want to mistakenly believe that they already know it all and are unwilling to learn are the ones that become defensive and then begin to play the victim care, claiming to have been attacked. And what a shame that they cannot even be introspective enough to take a step back and have an honest look at their behavior. Consequently, they fail to see what everyone else sees them projecting.

I can think of quite a few who are like this. One of the most blatant example would be a certain poster whom i'll just call TheOrifice.

Again. I NEVER said SEE was better for teaching English. I said it was a viable option, and one that can be successful when implemented appropriately. Stop criticizing my writing. It's really in poor taste, and what's the term?

Off topic.

Blah, blah, blah, SEEsign.

Ohhhh...I like that version of the screen name! I have few that I use with private friends about some posters, too.:laugh2:

Csign, do you identify with any minority group? I don't think that you understand the power dynamics here. It's not like someone can wake up one morning, call herself a negative name and it's all fixed. There are inequities.

I understand what you're saying. However, if a d/Deaf individual decided to reclaim the term and used it in a positive way I would not take that away from them.

Then you do not understand what sallylou is saying at all. Your response demonstrates that.

We have already referred to that old thread that you started. In fact, a couple of us posted a link to it. People have already seen for themselves that you did just that.:cool2: Maybe you should be careful about what you put in writing.:laugh2:

I would invite anyone who believes your nonsense to go and read the thread. They will see that I was nothing but supportive and positive about ASL.

Perhaps you should take your own advice.

It's sad when people can't discuss the merits of an issue without fumbling around for an angry answer and devolving into personal attacks, the usual abusive ad hominem approach. For Jillio, it always comes down to this sort of statement: "You are stupid and wrong about thinking that some people see both negative and positive connotations in the term 'Deaf militants' because ... um ... your screen name has a C in it, a SEE reference and you are ... hearing! Ahah!"

Yeah ... brilliant, incisive, sure showed her. :cool2:

edit: and yes, in this case, I AM defending csign. Although you'll probably insist it's drphil I'm defending.

What I'm getting at is that you don't understand the Deaf/HOH experience. You have to put yourself in someone else's shoes. That means learnings how to deal with the vulnerability from being in a minority group. Have you ever stepped out of your role and felt like you were out of step with most people?

You don't even know what my role is. I absolutely have put myself on others shoes to gain better perspective, and be a better advocate for my son. Yes, I have felt out of step with the majority at times in my life, but I stay true to myself. I don't seek out acceptance. I have no desire to change who I am to appease the minority or the majority.

They have already read it. Most were so disgusted by your posts in there that they are burned into their memory. No need to read such nonsense a second time around.

You have made your role obvious through your posts.

Yeah, just keep telling yourself that! But you might want to make your words and your actions a bit more congruent if you actually want to be believed.:laugh2:

I know! Isn't it disgusting that I've been signing longer than some d/Deaf posters! That's just deplorable.

I feel sorry for you. It must have been exhausting to be sarcastic all the time because you must have been misunderstood by many people.....

That is hardly what I was referring to, but again, trying to appear superior to the deaf/Deaf is what keeps you in hot water around here.

Signing SEE could hardly be considered "signing" at all.:cool2: When "signing" is referred to here and elsewhere in the Deaf community, it is in reference to ASL or PSE, not one of the hearing invented MCEs.

And she is not even very effective in her sarcasm. It comes off as offensively as her screen name and her posts.

Most of us have been deaf longer than you. It's your attitude - not the fact that you may be better at sign than some of the deaf that bothers us.

I seem to have missed the scarcasm now that I think about it.

Ok, Csign, I've got a challenge for you. An experienment. You suddenly become deaf. For a week, you don't use your ears. You can't listen to anyone. Plug your ears up good so that people sound like the adults in the Peanuts cartoon. What do you do and how do you feel about it?

And don't think that this doesn't happen. We've got a lot of late-deafened people around here.

The only attitude I have is in response to those that choose to jump on every, single thing I say. It gets really tiring. The sarcasm is really the best way to deal with it. Otherwise I'd just keep going around in circles with a few posters who seem to try and dominate every thread.

No, it's not exhausting at all actually. What is exhausting is getting into "debates"; which are often times more of an argument, when in reality the belief and or goal is similiar or the same.
