Brakessssssssssssss

Inspections are required here... the stepdaughters grand am faild due to a leaking rack and pinion... they took it to another shop and they said they wouldn't have failed it for the leak.... but because they already had it inspected it had to be fixed.
Now, just to show you that some shops either want money or just don't care if its safe or not.....
So, the queen goddess of all, took the Infiniti to the lesser of the 2 evils to inspect the car and all thaty failed was a tire... The brake warning light is on, on the dash that the brakes need replacing....( computer center thing) and it passed? WTF?

I've had my car inspected places that gave me crap about little stupid things like a rust spot that was sharp but not check ball joints?! That's why I inspect my cars myself.

I think state safety inspections are only required to check for very specific items. Depending on how diligent the service station is, they may or may not check anything beyond that required scope.

It's just my guess since our state no longer has inspections. People complained that it was a revenue racket and gave people a false sense of security, so they did away with the inspections years ago.

Inspection requirements varies each state, not all states have same regulations. Here in NYS more flexible than in PA, but in NC, oh my god even worse stricter. Plus paying property taxes on vehicle? Gee, Im outta of NC done. I heard NJ is worse strictier,

I think Ohio and Mich does not require inspection, VA, requires only when bought a vehicle, so thats one time thingy in VA.

Utah require vehiicle inspection, too.

Switch to Diesel tech.

No switch cabin air filter for long time and then inside car will smell nasty or too dirty when turned A/C or heat on. :barf:

99% of driver/customers can't said No to me whatever I recommend as maintenance, parts need to replace/repair, brake shoes minimum lining thickness is 1/4",even one light out. They don't want to get pull out and get ticket from DOT. They will lost their time for business travel and lost money from fined. :aw:

That's right DOT will give you the warning or ticket for one light out or and ticket for less than 1/4" brake shoes lining.

DOT should do same thing to all vehicles.

CHP will ticket the truck drivers for same reason. They will check the log of maintenance paperworks when the truck stop by CHP, to see if any recently repairs are made, CHP officer will conduct the safety inspection to make sure the mechanical such as brakes works are done or in good condition. Just saying...

To fix the van she will need 2 new rims, fuel tank, fender, headlight assembly, possible a-arms and depending if she bent the rear axle??? Possibly 3 new tires as well. So she just had the infiniti inspected, one tire failed so she bought a new set for the front and getting re-inspected today so she can get plates. Shame, the van was very nice, fully loaded Walt Disney edition ( DVD system, leather, dual power sliders...ect...)

What? Are u gonna to fix her? Sounds pretty lot money...if you are going to fix them urself, I advise you to check tire air pressure sensors inside the wheel time to make sure the sensors are not damaged , also check fuel pump assy for sign of damages maybe broken fuel pick up screen or cracked fuel pump housing. Good idea to check lower control arms and also exhaust system such as cat converter or muffler... No fun.... Good luck...

No...hell no, Im not fixing it... I don't feel like it for one. Tires don't have sensors in them, I told her the complete tank would need replaced ( Tank/pump and float) as the fuel gauge doesn't work as it is already. And Im sure there was damages to the drive train...it is an All Wheel Drive (AWD) in which the tranny already has a slight kick to it from high mileage but ran its ass off. The van did very well out here in the snow and ice during the winters since its almost like a 4x4... now she is stuck with a rear wheel drive tank... gonna be a whole new ball game for her driving, I don't think she ever drove a rear wheel drive car before, only front wheel drives.... this is gonna be fun !!! lol

...or dangerous.

You don't let your son ever ride with her, do you? She doesn't sound like a safe driver.

If DOT would do that, about 95% of the vehicles on the road would be impounded today ! You wouldn't believe the cars on the road today....lol

Be impounded because driver can't afford ticket or replace/repair bill? So let vehicles to be impounded. That's not make sense to me. At least more safety for us.

Same here about ISP.

It's calls annual vehicle inspection report.

http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/documents/eta/part-396form6.pdf

I heard that diesel technician/mechanic would fired if DOT found it out that annual vehicle inspection report was fake or not correct info like brake system, tires, etc. (light out is not count)

If her car have ETC systems (electronic throttle control systems) then no worry about snow/ice/rain. RWD with ETC works better than FWD without ETC. Yes, it's true. I tried them before.

IF no ETC systems then good luck with her differential and tran and they will burn out due spin-out a lot.

ETC (electronic traction control?) no the infiniti doesn't have it I don't think so anyways.... still need to read the manual. Its her car now anyways, I don't want anything to do with it anymore.

Put an ad up to sell whole to someone who wants to fix it, still a good van or just part it out and scrap the rest.
Just don't have the cash to sink into it nor the time to mess with it otherwise Id keep it.

Make very sure that you get all the odds and ends that have accumulated in it out before you get rid of it.

I think most of you know by now that my dad sold cars. People were forever leaving things in used cars that were traded it. Then not claiming them! What I still have includes a set of salt & pepper shakers and a Baby's Room Thermometer (you don't have to have a baby around to want to know what the temperature is).

Get the insurance company to declare it a total.

Wirelessly posted

I'm fairly sure if you know the mechanic or a place that the other insurance would cover to pay for damage of car. If its possible that saving all receipts possible for proof of repair would be accepted for reimbursements?

But thankfully nobody got further hurt --
Usually bad brakes can be detected by the annoying scratching like running fingers on chalkboard or finding you're pushing all the way. Can alway have it looked at regularly by a trusted friend that know about cars.

I've had few that advised me and explained to me what to look for. Or I would appreciate it being told about something that I didn't know about and given a chance to check into it by 2nd and 3rd opinions if possible. :)
