Boot Camp Experience and Discussions

and what about priests raping choir boys? teachers raping students? fathers molesting kids? it happens.

Yes it sure does. I happen to be of the opinion that schools and churches need a huge shift in the way they work as well.

There are other troubled teens who have been successfully rehabilitated after boot camps.

Have they been scared into being obedient, or is the desire to behave well internally generated?

The boot camp friends I'm talking about did not attend the same place as me, so it is not just one place I'm talking about.

Forgive me for saying this - sorry but I don't concern myself with these trivial things. it gives me a headache but I say this - as long as they respect the authority and law... fine with me. as long as they don't cause harm to public, fine with me. it's certainly lot better than their former behavior.

One thing that I want to add about boot camp:
Isn't that off limits to most of us HH and especially the profound deaf? I recall back in high school my friends trying to get me to join them up for army opportunities, the cadet who was responsible for recruitment said that they have to follow a code to exclude for people who are deaf or HH, but I don't recall what it was.
I know the FBI does not allow openings for deaf people, and HH have to pass a specific decibel in order to qualify..

So what am I trying to say here? Most of us that are actually HH or deaf here probably don't have a real experience of whats it like in boot camp, I think, but could be completely wrong.

yes it's off limit to all people with disability. I got a letter from Korea to report to army but of course I had to reply back that I have a hearing disability. I'm sure there is a boot camp for deaf.

I think it matters tremendously. Someone who is obeying out of fear is likely to lash out once that fear factor is removed. That is what I am asking, do they respect authority in boot camp but once they're back in the real world, they have nothing inhibiting them anymore? Fear is used as a means of control, so I am asking what happens when that control method is lifted?

simple - by doing so.... they go to prison. that's what boot camp teaches you every single day - YOU PAY FOR YOUR ACTION. Beside - what about therapies? homes? they do lash out as well.... and what happens next? nothing.

so what can you do with troubled teens who have done years of therapies? special facilities? sessions with professionals? and juvenile prison? what's next? more love and compassion?

I don't know what you prefer - juvenile prison or boot camp.

I think that prisons should be converted into centers for healing, personally. So I don't think boot camp or prison is the solution.

And yes you guessed right -- more love and compassion.

lol ok :aw:

This is OT a little but still on topic..
Nika's statement reminds me of a character from an old anime:
Vash the Stampede in Trigun

His ultimate motto was, "Love and Peace!" is the solution to all.

that was a good anime series :cool2:

nika - the boot camp you went... was it in USA or Russia?

Not really...my dad and stepmom spent almost $60K for my brother to go to boot camp in Oregon.

Wow, that's expensive, do you happen to know his story on his own experience in the boot camp and how it turns out and how it affected him in any way?

I should ask...my brother just got out of jail (he is 20 years old now) and is going thru severe withdrawals from his addiction to drugs...my dad is coming to visit in Feb so I will ask him when he is here. Hope I dont forget. My dad was so angry at that time andwhenver the topic was brought up, he changed the subject. My dad and his family have a long history of avoiding serious issues regarding family...very hard to get him to talk about things that are unpleasant but I will try.

That is understandable, if you couldn't get a story that's ok, I was just curious that's all. :)

My deaf brother is 33 years old. The 20 year old is my hearing brother from my dad and his 2nd wife. I have 5 brothers..one is deaf and the rest are hearing. This brother (20 year old) is the only one with the problems...the rest of us are fine.

Once my dad starts drinking, he can talk about anything...just have to wait until he consumes at least 5 beer cans, then I will ask him. I am bad, arent I?
