Best way to develop oral skills?

You were told that you were attempting to set Deaf Ed back 200 years when you insisted that you had the right to demand AVT from a Bi-Bi program. That is exactly what happened at the Milan Conference.

I merely asked for appropriate pull out. I certainly never asked for AVT in the classroom.

But you are right Daredevil, what I ask for, for MY daughter, in HER IEP meeting has ZERO impact on anyone here, so why in the world do they care so much???

Interesting that no one is actually focusing, on what I have posted.

Perhaps it hit a spot.

Haven't anyone "Heard" what I have said?

You hear that faire jour!? She was there! Shame on you!!!

Here we go again with the sarcasm that attempts to deflect from the real issue.

Educate yourself with a little Deaf history.

And AVT is in direct conflict with a Bi-Bi philosophy. You do not have the right to demand that a school change their philosophy. You do, however, have the right to change schools.

Yep. I "heard" you. And agree with you, as well.

No one could ever possibly know that. No one knows how "cruel" a life is compared to others. That's like saying "I know many people who are happier than you."

Then you have just invalidated your post.

Oh, but it does impact other deaf children, and some of us care about those that aren't immediate members of our families or even known personally to us. It is called social responsibility.

I prefer to call it a "humor quip".

I already did.

Are you saying to forget about developing oral skills, then? Or make it a nice little hobby that may or may not be useful?

Actually, the therapist has changed the way she does therapy, and is communicating with my private therapist, and coming in and watching sessions, to figure out the best ways to improve her therapy....also, she has listening time every week and the teacher uses her voice with Miss Kat, every single time she is speaking just to her. She has also recorded all of her stories on tape, so that she can do ASL and spoken English at story time. So, things have changed!

How on earth does what my daughter and her speech therapist do in their 30 minutes twice a week affect other Deaf kids?

No, dear, that is not what I am saying, nor will you be able to find where I have ever said that. Why is it that you feel the need to twist the meaning of my words?

Deaf people are normal in a sense. They just can not HEAR.... That is my main thing. I hate to see a parent in denial.

I grew up orally. And I was in a safe haven for a while. Then as I grew up. It hit. HEY. I had speech therapy and all! I still can not hear!! People get a false sense in thinking that growing up orally will make a person hearing. It doesn't..

Nope, because you are comparing people to others. I am saying the less tools you have, the more likely the world will be cruel to you. If you don't have it, oh well. But if you have it, why not take advantage of it?

That is the impression I get. "Oh, we'll provide a very basic level of therapy to keep the hearing parents happy, but we all know it is useless and pointless".

I didn't say that you did. It's a question. Where is the answer?

Uses her voice and signs as well, no doubt, as it is a Bi-Bi classroom, and in order to make all communication available to all students, sign is required. Listen time...is that the volunteer time you do with the CI kids in her class? One cannot do spoken English and ASL simultaneously. And the things you discribe are hardly AVT. More of a TC approach.

Daredevil. You grew up orally right??

If so. Now that you are grown. Have you experience any type of "mockery" even if you can speak and somewhat understand what others are saying?

I know, I have.

Nice try, still invalidated your own post.
