Are you waiting for stem cells or something to improve hearing?

What's more, if quality of life isn't an issue here or a big deal, then perhaps one should quit playing a musical instrument that a deaf/hh loves to play then right now since it isn't a big deal, right? And no need to wear a hearing aid or cochlear implant so one might as well quit then.

:hmm:

Some Deaf people actually do quit playing their musical instruments when they lose all their useful hearing, and others find ways to continue playing. I've heard of totally deaf people playing the guitar or other instruments. Don't assume we cannot do what we can.

coolspygirl (if I remember her username correctly) is a member of her school band and plays lead percussion.

Increased quality of life does not equate to being able to hear.

A Deaf person can be just as happy (if not more) than a hearing person.

That did not answer my question. i'm talking about you as a deafblind person. CI improved your quality of life, yes?

In response to your post - a loss of hearing/sight/etc. does not equate to happy life either. Your statement does not apply to all as well. I cope with it. I can manage with it but I cannot say same for others. Some suffers a serious depression or a decreased quality of life due to loss of whatever. It's not easy teaching old dog a new trick.

Yep.

Through I don't use HAs very much, I do enjoy to play some musical instruments a few times. I think it's actually fun to do so. :)

No to all of the above.

I'm able to hear with my CIs, so I no longer use tactile interpreters, real-time captionists or relay.

Sorry to disappoint you.

So, you watch tv and movies without caption and have no need for them? Or real time captioning during live news? Etc...

Being able to hear versus being able to understand are two different things. So, it is a fact that your CI has given you an increased quality of life and greater independence then?

I made the decision to get a CI for myself. No one made that decision for me.

If blindness and/or hearing loss does not equate to a happy life, I guess I'm living a sad, miserable existence.

I'm college educated, I live independently, I've been dating a wonderful man for the past 3.5 years whom I plan to become engaged to soon.

I guess none of those things are of any value since being able to see or hear takes top priority and is the true definition of happiness.

Yes to all of the above.

As far as TV captions go, I'm totally blind, so I can't use them.

My speech discrimination with CI is 100% in quiet and 97% in noise. I have absolutely no difficulty understanding the TV or radio.

Yeah!

I would love to learn to play both the acoustic and the electric guitar but I need to find someone to give me lessons! I think they're the most awesome musical instruments! :D

that did not answer my question either. I have never asked if anybody made a decision for you. I'm asking you if your decision to get a CI does improve your quality of life.

another comment that makes no sense. try not to counter my post by make my statement an opposite.

good for you and I'm happy you have lived well but again - your situation doesn't apply to all. Just because you can doesn't mean all can.

The same score with my hearing aid as well. Do (or can) you use the phone everyday?

Again, has CI improved your quality of life and improved your independency?

Hear Again is totally blind, she cannot even see light. So she has no use for closed captioning unless there is a way to do captioning in braille. Nonetheless, captioning is not a stem cell treatment and neither is a cochlear implant. Same goes for braille.

Oh, definitely yes. My favorite one is a drum. I can play it properly with or without my HAs. I am able to feel how it is correct sound. I love it! My mom used to play a violent at her old high school and, probably, middle school. Same with my sister, too. I learned how to play a guitar but I'm a sort of good at that. Oh, well. But it's very enjoyable, I tell ya! :D

Be sure to invite me and my fiance to your wedding!

Awesome! :D

Are you gonna pop a question to him? :giggle:

:giggle:

Not yet. He told me he wants to get engaged, but we haven't finalized our wedding plans yet since we will be moving to Arizona in a few months.

And so I've just learned.

The issue was about quality of life issue as well as increased independency which why stem cells treatment for blindness or deafness, when the time comes, would be desirable to have instead of depending on a hardware piece to get around and enjoy life. The very reason for her to get a CI, no?
