Good luck on the 22nd Smiley! It's good to know what your options are...

my appt with the dr went well. I had a hearing test then I had a ct-scan done. The results would be sometimes next month and the dr will let me know then. but I have to go back for balance test next month due to vertigo and dizziness..

The dr said tinnutis may not connect right due to brain- not ear. interesting? also that the implant may not always stop it? maybe mask it but not much? maybe it's one of side effects from the car accident but wait n see due to tests. so I am not looking forward to that as i will do test for 2 hours? yikes!

i was right that my left ear had really declining badly. My right ear declined a little (used to be severe but now profound). The dr mentioned that it would be better to implant my left ear? but up to me as i have two choices- can implant my right ear as its profound loss now. He said lets wait and see what the ct-scan say. so waiting.. ha.. Just thought i'd tell yall this. :)

yeah good idea to wait till ct-scan result because your surgeon dr wants to see if there's any evidence of sclerosis precluding an implant. but your evaluation is almost over like half way there eh...

Glad to hear it went well.

Tinnitus is a funny thing. My mild tinnitus went away after surgery. As Boult stated, just wait until you have the information before deciding which ear to go with.

Glad to hear your appointment went well and it sounds like the doctor is being very careful with you.

I had the balance test as well - this is because a small percentage of people have problems with vertigo after an implant and so the risk for this can be assessed through the balance test. For me it involved monitoring the way my eyes followed a red light on an LED screen. And then after that my audie put a mask over my eyes and squirted cold and hot water into my ears. The computer monitors the movement of my eyes after the squirting has stopped. If you feel dizzy it's a good sign your vestibular system is working as it should.

With the tinnitus - your doctor is right it is to do with the auditory processing part of the brain, not the ear. I had severe tinnitus before surgery, which got really bad right after surgery but now 2 weeks after surgery is a bit better than before surgery. I've been told that once I'm activated it will likely disappear while the processor is turned on but of course no guarantees. I have a good feeling that it will disappear while the processor is turned on because before surgery if my ear heard a very loud sound the tinnitus would stop for a few minutes.

I'm glad your doctor is educating you of all the possible outcomes.

thanks.. :)

yeah the tests they said i would have is Electronystagmogram (ENG),
platform posturography and sensory organization test which they said will take at least 2 hours for me to complete.

one thing i noticed.. no coffee.. no chocolate.. prior 3 days before tests.. wahh no chocolate fix? :( lol.. thats too bad! haha..

and i will need a driver to drive me home afterward..

did you had to have a driver? i wonder?

yeah I had a driver, my brother! because you will be going home same day so you may still be weaning off from sleeping agent :)

sleeping agent? the paper didnt even SAY anything about it? i didnt know?

that explains why they prefer for me to have a driver. Now its very clear as i understand cuz my son's father Gabe was talking about me driving my car to conway and i will go with him in his truck then come back to conway from little rock. he was hoping that i can drive my car home but sleeping agent? i think its not a such good idea as i may fall asleep?

thanks for telling me this. I will tell my sons father .. boy will he be shocked he have to DRIVE me home no matter what! lol.. :D

during the surgery, you will be put to sleep with sleeping agent in other word general anesthesia

so it will be wearing off post-surgery which you will still feel groggy or not.

during pre-op, you meet with a anesthesiologist to discuss and sign the release paper that you don't have any problem with anesthesia. you know what I mean?

But you could stay at your father's for overnight or two when you are feeling better and up to driving home.

oh i knew about anesthesia as i had two surgeries before. the tests i will have next month is not surgery.. just regular balance tests to determined my vertigo and dizziness plus balance as i always have been clumsy. i am not going to have ci sugery next month.. haha.. :)

Yeah sorry.. little sleepy here eh.. of course not surgery but you said need driver to drive you home.. so I guess something that will make you groggy and not alert when you take test.. who knows.. :dunno:

I will have my vacation in to drive you to surgery and stay with you. I can bring you home and care you. Last time you remember you said you know that I do care for you. I wonder if I do not want to conflict your surgery with my poetry trip. Make sure you tell your doctor if you are accpet and let it not conflict with my poetry trip? I will need to know when so I will put my two week vacation in. Why not?

hey starrygaze i will not have surgery next month. it will take at least 3 months to process thru .. dr want to focus on my vertigo and tinnutis first then can do ci next.. but that wont be till possibly sept or oct- depend on how things are going.. its all depend on what they will do for my vertigo plms. u dont have to worry about that ci right now.. u can worry about your own poetry convention.. thanks for your concern, tho. :) and beside i already have plans if i have surgery for ci.. i will plan stay at my brothers house as my sis in law will take care of me for one week. ok.. :)

ha ha ur forgiven ;) i havent heard from Leslie over at the office about this and why do i need a driver? I am still waiting.. When i do hear from her, i will let ya know ok? :)

i think from what i understand online the info about this regarding test that i will take will make me dizzy, nausea and will need to lay down so thats why? i just hope it will not make me end up stuck in bed for days. sometimes i have to lay down for few hours to 2 days. it sucks. if this tests .. i am afraid i will be stuck in bed a week? jeez.. haha :(

i remembered i just sit on recline chair almost all day the next day i got home. then after that i start to walk around more and more but still get plenty of rest on recline chair watching t.v. and movies :D its like paradise!

was that after the balance test or the surgery? i wonder? :D

after the surgery.. i didn't take the balance test.
that's not what she meant... she has to go somewhere for balance surgery. she hasn't had the operation YET. she asked you... after the balance test? OR after the surgery?
